Fractured elbow

Dunn will likely not see the court again this year. What's our starting lineup next game? Back to Ish, Jaland, Zack, G, and Cam? More minutes from Beebah and Jorge?
[sigh]
That is too bad for Dunn, he has been injury plagued this year. With that said, it seemed like the team actually played better in the stretch that he was injured earlier this year. Maybe finding the right combinations will be easier with him out.

Dunn was a miss. The team was better without him. He has some offensive talent but his skill set is too similar to Lowe and Leggett. Just a bad portal year. Got 2 guys in the portal who looked good on paper and we all thought would help but they just didn't do what you needed them to. If we got a do-over, I would have taken a rugged rebounder even if he couldn't score at all and a shooting specialist.

I can not quite figure out why but the team has seemed off since he came back. He’s a good player but maybe (like what has been said is true that) the three guards are just too much alike.

I even thought the team looked immediately better after he left the game for good last night. Isn’t that when they clawed back into the game after being down like 11?

So there must be something it.

If the team is squarely better without Dunn, then Capel deserves on the criticism he’s getting. Dunn should have been the 6th man. This team is soft, lacking in offense & defense, and rebounding is horrendous. Not sure what they work on in practice. The one on one street ball is so frustrating to watch. Guards are very selfish players.

Disagree if you want but the cohesiveness of this team went south when Dunn came back. Not trying to pick on Dunn but that's how I see it.

They'd have fallen off without him too. Capel teams sans excellent leadership tend to fade. Not having Dunn is bad.

I think the biggest lack if cohesiveness of this team is that there is no leader among the starters and/or limited bench that Capel uses. More game film (that teams we haven't played yet, get to see) clearly shows the way to defend our guards, and man-handle our bigs. This wasn't as aware to Pitt's opponents in the OOC schedule, but it is now

It's all about leadership, or lack there of. Hinson was a superb leader for the guys last year. There is nobody who has taken on that role. There is a huge need for an alpha dog on this team, but Noone has the experience or special abilities to assume that role. Capel needs a leader, someone to default to when times are tough like this. Unfortunately for him and the team, there is Noone there.

Dunn was wildly inconsistent and impact was overrated when he returned. Maybe never fully healed. Feel bad for him, but wasn’t the teams savior or leader.

Pitt already had 2 guards in Lowe and Ish who could drive and score and dish. As such, Dunn added little and and worse when he went one on one it had a negative impact on Lowe and Ish. Cummings and Jorge can spot up and shoot 3s which is more needed. They can also get guys involved who will be back next year.

I think they beat SMU and get on a little run that can get them some momentum going into the ACC tourney.

Dunn looked the part of a seasoned veteran early in the basketball year. The injury @ Greenbriar affected him like we fans might never know. Hard to speculate that if he survived that fall vs Wisconsin what his game might have contributed, in ACC play. Given that no one is or was the team's savior/leader (well, maybe Jaland for a stretch) it's hard to rule out Dunn. He was the closest Pitt had to a Hinson-like player; chippy, confident, wanted the ball, etc

Burton was a leader.

Not sold on Hinson as a leader. His personality & ability to get points in bunches with his high volume 3 pt shooting had to be a confidence booster though. He could be vocal, fiery, had a colorful personality and was a solid competitor, but I'm not sure that qualifies as a good leader. I don't think Blake really did a lot to make others around him better. He didn't really lead by example. He did little to improve his overall skillset while at Pitt and didn't seem to take conditioning seriously at all. Not knocking the guy, as his contributions to the program were huge.
