From Twitter

I will play the devil's advocate here:

Amsal was "featured" as a mature (21-year-old) freshman who had played at a minor pro level in Europe

He was "featured" as someone who could shoot the 3 at a high percentage

He "seemed" like a good get, despite none of us fans having seen him play in a live game

He broke his shooting hand pre-season and had to rehab

Dunn started the year like a house afire and Austin took a mini-leap forward

After Dunn went down Amsal was used sparingly in OOC games, and since Dunn's return, almost not at all in the 7 ACC games

Amsal seems (to me, at least) to be still figuring out his teammates and the NCAA game

The coaches obviously aren't convinced he is ready for a role coming off the bench, but I get why some here would question (as have I) his absence of minutes

Gary, stop it. Right now, as a freshman, Amsal would be a below average A10 player. Next year, he will be an average A10 player....maybe even in the A10 because it would seem he's likely to transfer. Amsal aint the answer. Use this energy to lobby for Jorge. He is much better.
If he’s as good as we think he is, I don’t think he came over here to play college basketball for too long. Maybe with the injury we get a second year out of him.

I used to think Lowe was an NBA level player and possibly at least the equal of Bub. I now think that Lowe isn't close to getting drafted at all. He may make a practice squad or whatever they call it somewhere. But this Pitt team is totally devoid of NBA talent. They're more interested in playing playground ball than playing college basketball.

I was as hyped as anyone when Amsal came here, but I can tell you that after watching him play that he does not look to be ready to play at the game speed needed at this level.
I don't want him to start. I want him to play 3 or 4 minutes a half. Maybe break the pattern. Get the ball to move. Pass instead of dribble.

I watch the same games you do. Yes, he is not super quick or super physical, but...

I have seen him in the open court, he makes better decisions than what I am currently seeing.

He also seems to corral rebounds he is in position to get.

He sees the entire floor, no tunnel vision here. Plays team ball, looks for his teammates - no hero ball or it is time to get mine.

Physical or athletic ability is not the be all and end all. Some players see the game and know how to play and that makes them players and the players around them better players.

We'll just have to disagree on this one.

Agree and it is Capel inflicted.
Never saw a dude so overly hyped and then get banished to the bench in less than 6 weeks. I mean sure there have been a bunch of players we thought would be really good and it didn't work out. But this is crazy unusual. Dude can't sniff the court now.

And don't get me started on why Jorge only got 2 minutes in this game. Maybe if he was in late, he could have been the one shooting 3's and they actually would have gone in!!

All the hype was here on this board. Someone posted some buried YouTube video and all the sudden this guys the second coming of Drazen Petrovic. Anyone who bought in only has themself to blame.

I agree it's probably the fans that overhyped him. However, that means the portal acquisitions this past offseason were nothing short of awful.

Anybody who says we should stop caring about football and sink resources into basketball should take notes. We lost Bub, Hinson, and Fede and the best we could do in the portal was a 17 minute/game guy from Houston, a 21 minute/game 4 Capel had a hunch on, and a guy who is #10 in the rotation?

I get that they viewed Kante as an additional "new" player and everyone else is a year older, blah blah. But they lost two NBA/NBAish guys and filled the void in with Styrofoam peanuts.

Well to be fair part of that investment would have to include getting rid of this staff

Seems pretty clear that at least one person on twitter does not know what the word "coincidence" means.

I mean the last time Delalic played he played 5 minutes and scored 2 points with 0 rebounds, 0 assists and 1 turnover. He literally did not enter the game until there were 4 minutes and 58 seconds left in the second half with Pitt winning by 20 (so if unlike me you are a fan of +/- he was a -5 in a game that we won by 15).

He was completely and utterly inconsequential as to whether or not Pitt won that game.

It's actually kind of funny that someone would post something so completely moronic, but hey, it's the internet.

Thought you might want to consider this.

This "strategy", "style of play" needs to end.

This is so totally unnerving. The PG dribbles and dribbles, maybe tries to make a drive, or chucks one up from well outside the arc. It isn't just Lowe, although he is the PG 90% of the time. This is a Capel coaching strategy, from what I can tell. And the slowness of their offense getting up the court!!! I coached middle schoolers who did it quicker. This has to stop.

Like many on this board I have no confidence that the coaching staff know what they are doing.

Can we, collectively as a board, stop posting random sh#t we find on twitter like it means anything?
Yeah, as soon as people recognize that a guy that played 37 minutes at Ohio State and 18 minutes against Wisconsin might be a bit better than the mob is now depicting him.

It’s definitely the fans who overhyped him. I was one of them.

Please expand on your theory of minutes played in 2 games means he should play more.

And not for nothing he sucked in the Ohio State game.

By this logic you should be calling for Kante to be playing 35 mpg.

The Ohio State game where in 37 minutes he scored 5 points on 2-7 from the field, didn't get to the line all game, 0 rebounds, 0 assist and 3 turnovers? That Ohio State game?

I don't see what you think the problem is there. Clearly showed he could handle more minutes without having a medical episode. What more can you ask for?

Is it really that difficult to follow?

The Head Coach looking at the same player you are looking at felt he was good enough, merited minutes and was a good choice for minutes against Ohio State, Wisconsin, Mississippi State and WVU. That is not Gardner Webb. Tell Sean Miller Fan they are not in the Atlantic 10.

The team has been playing like shit. All of a sudden this kid who everybody had good things to say about and who had been seeing time, sits.

A kid who has both a passing and three point shooting skill we currently lack.

Yeah, i think he needs and we need him for 6-8 MPG.

I think we won the game. He played nearly the entire game.

You claiming we beat Ohio State at their place playing 4 on 5?

Yea it’s pretty easy to follow for me. For you, not so much. So let me help with the next step. That same Coach looked at his body of work and concluded that he is not good enough. At least for now.

And again, the good things that were being said were by people on this board clinging to the hope of a good player. Based on VERY little.

To be continued….
