Well, not the way we wanted the seniors to go out. Pretty disappointing, but if any group knows how to deal with disappointment, it's these seniors. They've been through a lot. Many thanks to those who stuck it out. You helped get the program headed in the right direction.

Now for a few thoughts on the game itself.

The good:

1. The team never quit. We could easily have packed it in when Miami went up by 3 scores. We were getting whupped, yet the guys didn't quit and at least made a bit of a game out of it (although the outcome was never really in doubt).

2. Hall ran the ball pretty well today. Finally, showed something as a compliment to Ollison.

3. Punting under pressure. Amazing that we got that punt off on the fumbled snap. Pretty good kick too under the circumstances. (yes, I'm reaching for positives at this point).

4. We actually learned a lot about this team today, which is sometimes necessary in the long haul.

The Bad:

1. The game was no where near as close as the score. Make no mistake, Miami thoroughly dominated this game. They did almost anything they wanted to do. Could easily have been a 42 - 17 type of game.

2. Dline got dominated. We got very little pressure on Kayaa. The times we did pressure him, he escaped and made plays.

3. LB's looked bad. The entire crew was MIA. The Miami RB's ran around them and made them look silly. Miami completely exposed our lack of speed and playmakers at the LB position. Guys like Caprara and Gallombos don't sniff the field at Miami.

4. DB's abused again. Maddox demonstrated how far over his head (no pun intended) he is against top notch receivers. Can't run with them and can't fight for the ball when he is in position. Pitts was marginally better, but that's saying nothing. Whitehead was relatively quiet, but at least he didn't get burned. Can't remember Webb or Mitchell doing much of anything. If the Narduzzi defensive scheme is going to work against great teams, we need many, many more play makers in the secondary and at LB.

5. Oline was bad today. Peterman was under constant pressure. Worst game all season for the Oline.

The bottom line is simple. Pitt is still far away from competing and winning against the elite teams in college football. We simply lack the talent. We need much more team speed at virtually every position. Ultimately, Narduzzi can be a very, very successful head coach for us, but it's all going to come down to one issue: recruiting. If Narduzzi gets the talent he needs, he has the coaching skills to win and win big. This recruiting year is EXTREMELY important. We have to stock up on quality players in many positions. Let's hope that Narduzzi closes strong, because the current level of talent is lacking.

We flat out need better players. Our talent level isn't where it needs to be to match up with high end atheltic teams. We have to play extremely well week in and week out to win.

The tandem of Maddox and Pitts has been brutal ALL YEAR. It is the #! position that we have to develop for next year. Freshmen COULD come in and start!

I disagree that the game wasn't as close as the score.

Miami STILL hasn't gotten into the endzone legitimately at Heinz. Especially the first TD.

Take those 7 points away, and/or add Blewitt's two misses.

Pitt out gained Miami on the ground, Miami out gained pitt in the air. Miami settled for FGs on five drives because our D stiffened.

The score was actually pretty reflective of the quality of the two teams.

We lost the turnover battle by one. And the score by 5. Sounds about right.

I agree! Boyd and whitehead are really good and were highly rated! For a reason... Need more then those two..

Good recruiting OR good coaching will get you 7-9 wins per year.. It's the schools that combine the two that are playing for the trophies.

Part of getting players is having a supportive fan base.

Watching the game on tv today and the empty stadium was embarrassing.. Guessing around 25k

That might be ok for players in the surrounding area, that want to stay close to home, but doubt it draws any high ranked recruits from much further...

I didn't give up after the first half... but after we didn't score on that opening drive in the second half, I figured too many things were going to have to go our way. Towards the end, a decent amount of things did, but not enough. It was too little too late.

Despite holding them to field goals, a few of those field goal drives really hurt... like the one at the end of the first half where they converted that 4th down in their territory (I knew that coach would go for it and had a bad feeling when he actually did) and then there were a few horrible plays such as the long catch and run that put them in our territory I think when we were down 26-10 and the pass where we were pressuring the QB, refs missed a blatant hold, and they got like a 20 yd completion.

But man you're right about those Blewitt misses, really hurt, meanwhile their kicker was pretty much flawless.

I agree with the sentiment that Miami firing Golden wasn't good for us, that team definitely came in with some momentum. I'm more disappointed with the countless terrible plays by our guys.

Too bad you couldn't make it down to the game instead of watching it on tv and complaining about attendance. Plenty of cheap seats available. I'm embarrassed when "fans" complain about attendance but don't actually go to the game

A. There was close to 40k there, easily. Outside of the student section, it was a bigger crowd than the Louisville game. I was there. The people saying 25k were not there.

B. I see you aren't attending the game in East Lansing, mikemauti42. So no point in you calling out fans from other teams.

You're an idiot. I'm not that other poster. Just 1, tired of fan boys on this board saying recruiting is picking up when it isnt. It is staying the same as it has been. And 2, never f'in complain about attendance if you can't take 3 hours out of your day to attend the game in person.

I've been to every home game except 3 since 1989. Including today.

I doubt very much you've been to many, if any. I suspect you've been to a few at Beaver Stadium, though.

ps. Here was your first post on this site the entire season:

"Beating Michigan now. I'm not sure why people say penn state is so bad. They lost to a good temple team and two ranked teams. Not so much different than our losses. Michigans offense sucks."

It was in a thread last week during the PSU-Michigan game.

mikemauti42, your team needs you tomorrow in East Lansing to cheer them on. They'll have their hands full.

We know what you are, nitter.

900 miles away fellows.. But the HD works well

I don't like penn state and wvu. I also dont like posters who can only talk about penn state and wvu and act like we are winning national championships while they are horrible. While I'm on a roll, I also don't care for the stadium on campus crowd as being the reason we don't sell out and have fans stay for the whole game

O line and d line were dominated...The U qb showed most of the game why he was big time coming out of Cali high school...Pitt qb was below the line
Some very bad play down the fintish stretch by Miami and Pitt not quitting prevented something of a blowout. The last 7 minute s NO way were indicative of what was Miami's superiority in size speed and talent.
Pitt gets a lot of credit for not allowing a big number deficit...

This one likely hurts the most in the bowl lottery...

You also never posted on this site ever..... until last week, when you posted defending PSU.

We know what you are.

You can only read jackass posters like you for so long before you have to join the fray

Yeah, mike, I get it. Your mikemauti42 account was banned... and then your pittpsu account was banned... .now you're stuck with this one.... at least until Chris Peak decides to ban it too.

Give up the charade, man. Nobody's buying it.

Well whomever he is, he is right about the need for better recruits. You mentioned Donald and a couple others - sure every now and then you'll find a diamond in the rough but we won't be able to compete with the big boys if we are fighting against Akron for recruits.

Couldn't have said it better.. Some would rather overlook the recruiting and hope to sign one or two players that PSU wants, totally forgetting about 95% of the rest of the recruits.

UPITT89, if you think we are shaping up to have an amazing recruiting class then you've been chugging that holiday egg nog all day.
I don't know what the recruiting class will ultimately look like, and neither do you.

You need to make sure you work on keeping Sanders from flipping from your Lions to these Panthers, though. He was at the game again today.... strange behavior for a solid PSU recruit.

Signing day isn't for more than 2 months.

Most recruits stick with who they verbally committed to. Right now, we don't have those committs. I'd love for sanders to switch to pitt but it would be pretty weird since his Twitter feed is still flowing with the crap penn state hash tags.

Hamlin, Hudson, and several other 4-star recruits that Pitt is in on haven't verballed anywhere yet. And with the coaching turmoil at nearly 20 FBS schools, *LOTS* of decommits are coming over the next 2 months.

The day to judge the recruiting is in February.

Our coaching staff does a very good job of making adjustments at halftime. The game plan was torn up after Miami’s QB stood in the pocket and was able to throw with little pressure. We simply do not the athletic talent when things go wrong to play catch up. Our D looked pedestrian today. Hendricks will be a nice addition but we still need DL, LBs and CBs. If I am am a recruit on the D side I am committing asap.

For a "solid psu verbal", Sanders spends an awful lot of time going to Pitt games. And James from State College was nervous enough last week to make another visit to see Sanders.

Maybe he stays with PSU.... but if I were you mikemauti42, I'd be a little nervous.

I can count, and I'm good at math.

Low end 38K, high end 42K.

40,000 is three of every five seats in the stadium filled. There weren't more than a half a dozen SECTIONS in the whole building that had more than three of every five seats filled. Most sections were well less than half full. Many sections in the upper level were essentially empty.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. You either can't count, or you are not good at math at all.

Or both. It could be both.

I couldn't make it today, but from the crowd shots I saw on TV, it looked about half full.

Insulting everyone(not even knowing if they live anywhere near the area)and everything

Definition of Slick the Complete Douchebag

Pretty easy to insult when someone complains about attendance and admits they watched on tv. And the people in our group came from Florida, so there are no excuses.

Now get back to your parents basement poker.

The lower bowl holds 38,000. The student section of the lower bowl hold 6,000.

Midway through the second quarter, the non-student sections of the lower bowl were 90% full. That 28,000. The student section had about 500-750. Counting people in the concourse or on the rotunda gets that to 30,000.

The upper deck holds 32,000. The upper deck was about 20-25% full... that's 6000 to 8000.

Total attendance... 38000 to 40000.

Joe you really are a mean SOB. UPitt is right, 38-42k.

Not that hard to figure out. You are just arguing for the sake of arguing like you always seem to do.

No, it wasn't. It wasn't even close to that. The fact that you think it was shows you are looking at this with you heart and not your head (similar to all the people complaining about the touchdown when the Miami receiver got not one, but two feet down in bounds).

I am just arguing because someone posted something that is patently absurd as if it were a fact. If people stop pretending that there were over 40,000 people there today I'll stop pointing out that they're full of it.

I can only conclude that you weren't there.

If I saw it with blue and gold glasses, I would've said 45k like the official total will say.

I been to over 100 pitt games and more than 20 steeler games in that stadium. 38-40k is a pretty good estimate. 42-44k was a good estimate for the Louisville game too.

Suprisingly to me, the non students were there in equal to greater number than the Louisville game.

I sit in 108. The home side of the lower level, from goal line to Pitt band, was packed to capacity. The visitor side, my side, was over 80%.

You're simply wrong, joe.
