I can only conclude that you weren't there.
I've been to every game Pitt has ever played at Heinz. I can still count on the fingers of one hand the number of Pitt home games I've missed in the last 34 years. Try again.
I can only conclude that you weren't there.
The home side of the lower level, from goal line to Pitt band, was packed to capacity. The visitor side, my side, was over 80%.
Well then, I can only conclude you do very poorly at those guess-how-many-jelly-beans-in-the-jar games.I've been to every game Pitt has ever played at Heinz. I can still count on the fingers of one hand the number of Pitt home games I've missed in the last 34 years. Try again.
Half full is 35,000.

Well, not the way we wanted the seniors to go out. Pretty disappointing, but if any group knows how to deal with disappointment, it's these seniors. They've been through a lot. Many thanks to those who stuck it out. You helped get the program headed in the right direction.
Now for a few thoughts on the game itself.
The good:
1. The team never quit. We could easily have packed it in when Miami went up by 3 scores. We were getting whupped, yet the guys didn't quit and at least made a bit of a game out of it (although the outcome was never really in doubt).
2. Hall ran the ball pretty well today. Finally, showed something as a compliment to Ollison.
3. Punting under pressure. Amazing that we got that punt off on the fumbled snap. Pretty good kick too under the circumstances. (yes, I'm reaching for positives at this point).
4. We actually learned a lot about this team today, which is sometimes necessary in the long haul.
The Bad:
1. The game was no where near as close as the score. Make no mistake, Miami thoroughly dominated this game. They did almost anything they wanted to do. Could easily have been a 42 - 17 type of game.
2. Dline got dominated. We got very little pressure on Kayaa. The times we did pressure him, he escaped and made plays.
3. LB's looked bad. The entire crew was MIA. The Miami RB's ran around them and made them look silly. Miami completely exposed our lack of speed and playmakers at the LB position. Guys like Caprara and Gallombos don't sniff the field at Miami.
4. DB's abused again. Maddox demonstrated how far over his head (no pun intended) he is against top notch receivers. Can't run with them and can't fight for the ball when he is in position. Pitts was marginally better, but that's saying nothing. Whitehead was relatively quiet, but at least he didn't get burned. Can't remember Webb or Mitchell doing much of anything. If the Narduzzi defensive scheme is going to work against great teams, we need many, many more play makers in the secondary and at LB.
5. Oline was bad today. Peterman was under constant pressure. Worst game all season for the Oline.
The bottom line is simple. Pitt is still far away from competing and winning against the elite teams in college football. We simply lack the talent. We need much more team speed at virtually every position. Ultimately, Narduzzi can be a very, very successful head coach for us, but it's all going to come down to one issue: recruiting. If Narduzzi gets the talent he needs, he has the coaching skills to win and win big. This recruiting year is EXTREMELY important. We have to stock up on quality players in many positions. Let's hope that Narduzzi closes strong, because the current level of talent is lacking.
Cruzer
Opposition coaches coming into Heinz should take note of 2 things...--Is it my imagination, or do opposing kickers NEVER miss a FG against Pitt?
--On the other hand, will CB leave Pitt with the record for hitting the uprights?
--We missed a ton of tackles today and Miami made us pay big-time with lots of yards after those misses. They were a bit faster than us, but we still missed tackles that should/could have been made.
--NP has problems completing short passes when he is on the move and ad-libbing. The ball always seems to sail high, plus he putts too much steam on it... Needs to work on that for next season.
--I don't understand you guys complaining about Avonte M. It's not like he's giving up any easy scores. I think he does a pretty darn good job for what he's asked to do - and he's a tough sob...
--Disappointing game today, but still a super season - and much future promise.
--The attendance debates get so boring...
Go Pitt.
No, it wasn't. It wasn't even close to that. The fact that you think it was shows you are looking at this with you heart and not your head (similar to all the people complaining about the touchdown when the Miami receiver got not one, but two feet down in bounds).
Are you a child? Not everyone that thinks our recruiting hasn't improved makes them a penn state fan. I hope penn state loses every game. Youre a cheerleader. Rah rah rah. 3 nationally televised games on real networks and we were way behind in the first half, that can't happen.Nitany Scum. You branch campus dummy!

Pitt team didn't quit. They lost, but they went out fighting unlike Miami who laid down & quit on their coach during the Clemson game. The arguing about 35/40000 fans is just a waste of time ,this is Pitt . You want the place full you have to win and compete at a national level anything less this is what your going to attract period. This means recruiting better and no matter how good the staff is its not going to happen overnight.
This talk about not scoring a legit td is laughable1. Any game is as close as the score says it is. Try telling a bookie that the favored team you bet on really beat the snot out of the other team but the score didn't show that. It's a 60 minute game, period.
2. There was no exaggeration of the attendance. 40,000 or somewhere around there was clearly what it was.
3. Let's not over exaggerate Miami not scoring a legit TD. Very close, but it did look like on the catch his foot was just in bounds. On the other hand though, the Kayaa called TD run was not even close. To even think that might have been a TD is plain foolish.
4. I'm probably more disappointed than most people about the loss. I absolutely hate losing. But look at the bright side, at least we're not Penn State.
