This reminds me of the team Capel had his first year. They have talent but just a mess and way too young. This could be his last year. I don’t think Capel is as bad a coach as his record would suggest. But he has really just completely missed in recruiting and had the worse luck on top of that. Even when he has talent it’s a bunch of selfish players who don’t play well together. We really need a system coach who recruits that way.

What a joke this is a JV team and that’s an insult to JV teams how do you not recruit someone who can shoot. We are like 10% from 3 and under 50 % from the FT line. There’s great shooters all over the place at schools like the Citadel and we don’t have one. We got some dude who stands a foot off the FT line and misses half why not tell him to get his ass on the line and make 1 of 2 just like he does sometimes standing a foot back. Seriously this is embarrassing and just plain awful to watch. In all seriousness who in their right mind would want to come here and start from zero again but that’s what we need Capel isn’t the guy. You’ve had 4 years and haven’t had one knock down jump shooter or anyone who can make bunnies all around the hoop just God awful basketball and every Pitt fan should be disgusted at how far this program has fallen in the past 7 years. Oh and perimeter defense has been as bad as the shooting how many wide open 3s can a team give up just piss poor all around. You have to try really hard to shoot under 50% from the FT line.
Is it possible this team is worse than Stallings last year. I feel like the young talent is better. But they seem just so lost and a complete mess.
This!! I feel like some don’t fully understand how truly embarrassing this is… we can be bad , sure , but to have this level of talent on an ACC roster in any year , for any coach, at any time, is absolutely INEXCUSABLE , this doesn’t even look like a D1 team..
I didn’t want Dixon gone because I appreciated 26 wins a year. Even if he didn’t get to the Final Four being in the tournament at least gives you a chance.
When they forced him out, I said ok but we better have a plan and at least hire a possible upgrade but instead we get Stallings, the Paul Hackett of Pitt basketball. A total cluster.
When we got Capel I was hopeful. He is not the coach Jamie was but I thought he could overcome it with recruiting higher rated players. I thought he could relate to the modern college players and team chemistry would be good if not great. I was wrong on all counts.
The thing that really gets me is that he doesn’t recruit enough shooters. That is the key to basketball right? Putting the ball in the hoop. It doesn’t matter how athletic your team is if they have no basketball skills or acumen. So we have always struggled to score under Capel and we are vulnerable to un-athletic, undersized teams who can shoot like the Citadel.
Build a 45k seat football stadium where the Pete is and then build a 10k seat basketball arena that can be downsized for volleyball and wrestling.

Capel can't do anything about Horton and Sibande. However, if Oladapo and Payton see that little court time in that debacle, he is once again to be blamed for his shockingly sub par recruiting. I recognize we are bottom feeders at this point but still an ACC program with obvious playing time opportunities. I thought the three transfers and the JC transfer would at least be good enough to help in the non-conference slate against lower and mid level competition.
I feel bad for Jeffress. He can't drop it in the ocean on offense.
Looks like another long year. Who would guess Pitt volleyball and soccer would be top five teams and the basketball program would be so poor for such a long period.
Have to say he does have a beautiful house in the most expensive part of Shadyside. But he is going to prob need a good Realtor to sell that house soon…

So many here get shouted down by the optimists and the analytics crowd when pointing out the flaws in this program but tonight should be a glaring sign to even the most rosy optimist that this thing is rotten from the core. As bad as this is, Pitt has way too many things working in its favor to be a laughingstock. I hope the administration realizes this, bites the financial bullet, and cuts ties with this staff. We sold our souls for the P5 dollars so we might as well use that to fix this mistake before we redefine rock bottom
