When we go to the line and come away with 0 points, it is an empty possession. No different than a missed layup.
If you go to the line, that's your only possibility to score that possession.
So far this half MY has a travel, missed hook shot (too far from basket), and an ill-advised missed 3.
To Souf: If your gameplan is to attack the rim, you bail out the other team if you miss the resulting FTs. It's the same as them getting a stop. The only good thing is someone might get into foul trouble. Also.... if team A goes 10-for-20 at the line and team B goes 8-for-8.... Team B likely won the game, unless team A made up for the equivalent of five empty possessions in some other way.
And when we get 1 point instead of 0 for a missed shot.. It's a net positive.
Isn't that his specialty? Him and Young are notorious for taking on the whole opposing team by themselves at least 3 times a game.
If a team averages 1 point per possession they will finish near the bottom of the NCAA in offense.
That said.... against Louisville, 1 point per possession is usually not bad.
This is nervewracking!!! And that is good, it is a good thing. It means we are in a close game with a good team.
1 is more than 0.
Accruing fouls against your opponents key players already a net positive.
I'd prefer to miss 6 free throws and make 4 more fgs.
They aren't mutually exclusive. You can make the FGs *AND* make the FTs.
Also... if you are being fouled and at the line, you have less opportunities for FGs.
