No matter how the buyout shakes out, the national media narrative is going to be slanted against faceless Pitt fans.

Gallagher and Barnes won't receive a bit of criticism. Gallagher probably won't even be mentioned. Lyke's performance will be critiqued softly since she's new on the job.

The tone will be much more negative toward some generalized notion of an ignorant Pitt fan, ironically the only party with zero contracting authority in all of this.

There will be an unbearable number of "hot" takes by dilettantes searching for clicks. And Pitt fans will oblige.

Stallings did a horrible job and is literally the least sympathetic character next to Rick Pitino, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if you’re right and we end up the bad guy in this.

not all national media, some recognize it for what it was.

Dan Dakich said that Pitt fans being unsatisfied with Dixon and wanting Stallings out after 2 years shows that people there want to win and that they care. So, while yes, you can say Pitt fans are unrealistic, you could also say Pitt basketball fans are some of the most passionate. What hurts though is our passion and fanhood doesn't add up to financial support of the program. That is a product of a pro sports town (donate money to my school, why?) and a lack of big fish donors.

I don't know if that happens. If they make a good hire then that's all the national media will be focused on. They liked Dixon and he had a good reputation but if KS had come in and been successful then it would even be an afterthought.

Now if they screw this hire up then all bets are off!

I’m not a big donor, but an additional donation and request for season tickets next year will be made as soon as he is fired. If they retain him, neither will be happening.

Even if they are losing next year, I can and will support he program when they are showing they are trying to win. Retaining Stallings would not be showing that effort.

Dixon never blamed the fans for wanting to win. I was a big Dixon fan. He was a great coach and person. He knew the acc was harder on him with recruiting. He knew he raised the bar for Pittsburgh basketball he was proud of that. He could deal with the fans wanting more. He wanted more —what he could not deal with was a new ad that wanted him out and treated him like he was the new guy and Barnes was the guy that brought pitt basketball back. Dixon would have not left if Barnes did not want him too. Pretty much that simple. Their were better candidates than stallings at the time also Barnes wanted stallings. It looks like that was his first choice. Barnes did a horrible horrible job with the pitt basketball program.

When this is over PITT should examine the KS hiring process.

They should come up with some idea of what went wrong so it's not repeated!

What bothers me is I don't think anyone on the PITT Leadership Team thinks they made a mistake which is a common way to think when it comes to academics!

That's one reason they serve little purpose and function outside of colleges!

His last three recruiting classes were like 84, 81 and 103. I am not sure how some of you continue to excuse that? If that wasn't a dereliction of duty, I am not sure what was. He had Sagote Kanabe ready to be hand delivered to him, and he never bothered to be interested.

I agree with that. Me personally though, I never wanted Dixon to leave. He at the very least earned the chance to try and right the ship himself. I didn't like the way stallings was hired and Dixon was allowed to leave so easily, but I didn't hate that stallings was our coach and was more than willing to give him a chance.

Earlier this season, I would've even said it'd be crazy to fire him so early. Now though, I just can't take it anymore, he absolutely has to go. It's unacceptable to settle for anything less than tournament appearances almost every year. It's just not worth sitting through these down years waiting for stallings to maybe get us back to a notch below that level.

I also think they need to do a through review as to why neither the bb or Fb program can attract top recruits to Pitt . Pitt has become the home of the three star and it’s tough to win without the players !

I said Dixon was a great coach and person. I said he had a harder time in the acc. What I stated are true statements. I’m not sure what ur referring too. If u were not happy with Dixon that’s fine. I would argue most of the pitt basketball world was proud of what Dixon did and acknowledges at the end we were 500 in the acc. Not everyone is perfect on the recruiting trail. He took 3 star recruits and led us to a number one ranking. That was hard to do.

Agree with this 100%.
