God, the Big 10 just keeps getting beat downs

I don't think it has anything to do with PSU. The big10 was the flag bearer for the media this year and they are getting stomped in bowl season. Message boards do the same thing to the SEC when they take beatings in bowl season.

It does't matter what Pitt did in their bowl game. It doesn't change the obvious which is the big10 got exposed this bowl season. When they have to play their peers, they can't match up.
Ohio State got exposed. Michigan lost by 1 without an all-world 2 way player and an all-American tight end. Wisconsin won. PSU hasn't played yet. The rest of the B10 bowl teams were not ranked in the top 25 , and they were playing ranked teams, right?

I would agree that the B10 was overrated at the top, although if PSU beats USC or plays them even, that's harder to say-because that would leave only OSU as a top B10 team that suffered an embarrassing loss. As for the performance of all the other B10 teams that weren't ranked, so what? They aren't overrated if they lose as underdogs, right?

Clemson is legit, Miami beat a higher ranked team, beyond that, what bragging rights has the ACC earned? I mean, Arkansas wasn't ranked in the top 25, but VT was, right?

What tangible boost do we personally get for the big 10 having a down bowl season?

HUH??

Well... spiritually... zero... physically... zero... but that is the same answer for whether Pitt win or not too.

What kinda weird statement is that?

In a total reference, Pitt (we) get the benefit of being in the best conference in football this year, and the added benefit and joy of rubbing the poo of a season the big 10 had in all the troll faces that come on this board. And, the added benefit of knowing our main rival's 'success' they had this year amounts to a little more than the success Western Michigan had this year. Certainly cant hurt down the road with recruits. A whole lot better than if we played in the worst conference in America and lost to PSU.

My point is that there's a large portion of our fan base who suffers from a little brother inferiority complex as it relates to PSU. And is obsessive about everything to do with their program.

You are on this board enough to see it first hand. We've got a group of people posting about it DAILY. It's sad.

We beat them. We dont need to apologize for anything. So why are people seeking validation from silly things like league bowl performance?
I know about those threads. But I think it's unfair to conflate those who are posting about the B1G's bowl performance with those posters (who btw are entitled to their opinions too, just like you). I don't consider myself obsessed at all but have no problem admitting that I am enjoying watching how poorly they performed. Iowa is just the newest example.

Because league performance isn't just about PSU. It is about OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska too.

What the bowl is showing ME is that the Big Ten's "Big Four", who were all ranked in the Top 8 at one point, would have each had at least 3 losses if they played an ACC schedule. Their faux league has 7 or 8 built-in wins every year - because the bottom of that conference is *SO* bad.... Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, Maryland, Indiana are five free wins almost every year. MSU was another one for this year.

The rest of college football had to hear all year that the Big Ten was the best conference in football... especially the Big Ten East.

Well.... the vaunted Big Ten East went 0-5 against the ACC this year. Including its "top 3" teams of PSU, Michigan, and OSU.

Every fan of OSU, Michigan, and yes, PSU.... needs to have it thrown in their face how bad their conference is - when you get out of the media and polls and actually get ON to the playing surface..... because they were throwing it in our faces all year.

And they were wrong. The Big Ten is a phony. They are the *5th* best of the P5 leagues this year... and the OOC games - the only place this can be truly measured - are showing it.

What effect the stomping of the BIGHYPE should (but most probably will not) have is in the preseason rating of teams for the top 25, etc. The automatic rating of BIGHYPE teams in the top 25 is most often done by perception, no reality. Being rated highly preseason is a huge advantage as raters do not like to be proven wrong, so they reluctantly lower teams even after loses. It is far more difficult to climb if you do not start in the top 25. Hopefully the thrashing of O$U, etc.in bowl season by OC opponents serves to bring the perception of the BIGIHYPE closer to reality.

None of these bowl performances will change any of this one iota. And anyone following college football for longer than five minutes should know this. The Big ten has had poor bowl performances for years.

Yet the hype machine rolls on. Because the hype machine is about money and TV interest. And the Big Ten has a ton of fans who care. So they will get the hype and attention.

Well that's your point of view of course. I for one don't find league bowl performances silly. Because you can bet your A$$ if the roles were reversed the Penn State trolls would be here ad nauseum touting the virtues of being above the ACC in general and Pitt specifically.
So it's my little turn to revel in the failure of The Big Ten.

-The ACC has now played in 3 of the last 4 National Title Games with the chance to win a 2nd title in 4 years.

-The Big Ten has been invited to 2 different College Football Playoffs and has failed to score 1 point in 2 different games. The Big Ten lost both games by a combined score of 69-0.

-The ACC, if my memory serves me correctly, was 18-7 vs the Big Ten and SEC this year, beating all their best teams pending Bama to complete the ACC sweep of dominance.

-Michigan is going to suck next year.

-The ACC is going to be loaded next year. Really loaded. And will easily repeat as best conference.

-I dont hate Penn State. They were the best team in the Big Ten this year and got completely robbed from a playoff spot, although that isnt saying much now because the Big Ten looks like dogshit. Penn State should be the Big Ten favorite next year because they only lose 4 starters, and the rest of the Big Ten is garbage. And Pitt will have every opportunity in the world to beat Penn State next year.

And the rest of us have the facts. It works for me.

The wheels of change do turn slowly. But with enough persistence they can turn. I'm just here giving my little push.

Who would argue that the claim that conferences are over or under rated is best settled on the field of play? A bowl game at a neutral site forces teams to play outside of their conference. Not one game, but the body of work over the bowl season, is at least an indication of the relative strengths of the teams in conference. Add to the fact that Pitt is in an annual competition with players who are considering B10 schools (Md, PSU, OSU, Michigan, MSU, Rutgers) and it seems like a normal and relevant topic on a Football message board to me.

I do think tOSU will be better especially if Urban finds another QB.

And you think posting about this ad nauseam on a message board is going to ensure everyone comes to know truth about the Big Ten being "phony"?

Good luck, man. Keep fighting the good fight.

-No, but if the Big Ten continues to get its ass kicked there is no way to defend it.
