It was halftime and they were down 3. Their Radio guy said that they had to close the press box window because of the amount of disgruntled nitter fans saying inappropriate things that were getting picked up by their mic. Also commented on how many empty sections (not seats) there were at paterno field

OMG! A Pitt fan being critical about another team's empty seats! I think I've heard it all now.
BTW...today's attendance was over 94,000 against a MAC team. When was the last time Pitt had over 94,000?
As for inappropriate things being said, try reading this board more often. Sheesh!

As I said in another thread, the idea that there were anywhere close to 94,000 people there today is laughable. That number was every bit as made up as many of the numbers that Pitt has announced over the years.

Instead of sitting on Panther-lair, retreat back to your moms basement and re-watch the game. McSorley is terrible. Barkley wasn't exactly impressive either. 107K strong is a f'n joke....just like Penn State.

Pitt will never have 94,000 because 1) our stadium seats 70,000 and 2) we have a much smaller undergraduate and alumni population than Penn State does. And why do we need a 94,000 person crowd? Who says you need 94,000 people to be a successful college football team? I wouldn't trade Pitt's academics and athletics for any other situation.

You forget, these people will believe anything they're told.

The nitter acts like this is coming from pitt. I said it was the Kent state Radio guys. You guys tout your attendance as it means something. I bet the percentage capacity for both teams was probably equal today like most days since your rapist enabling coach was fired

Tell ya what, Vicious, I'll make a deal with you. I'll promise to stay off this board if you keep your brethren away from the McAndrew board on BWI.
Mom's basement? I'm retired for over 7 years, live in State College in a beautiful home, a long-time season ticket holder, was at the game today and will be at Heinz field next week. How about you?

When will you Pedo dopes realize there's a direct correlation between size of the alumni base and attendance. IT IS NOT A DIRECT REFLECTION OF QUALITY OF PLAY OF THE ACTUAL FOOTBALL TEAM. Which begs the question, which 13th grade PSU branch campus did you "graduate" from?

True. Tennessee has been very mediocre for years (much like PSU) and still packs in 100k+ each game year after year.

Tennessee is NOT one of the largest schools. They are the one true University where attendance is from the community.

Here are the largest undergrad schools. You can see Penn state and Ohio state are the largest by far of the football playing schools.

Since pedo state pumps outhe OVER 20,000 more undergrad students ever 4 years of course their will be more fans there

Do the numbers in the article include branch campus numbers? They might?

What does any of this mean? That guy retired from his janitorial position at the west college ave mcdonalds and uses his social security checks and retirement job hotel van driver income to buy season tickets. When he says beautiful home, he is referring to his trailer next to the Atherton street red lobster. Come get some old timer. Pitt by 10

Win and they will come.

I know the nitters like to talk about how Pitt is overshadowded by the Steelers and can never compete for attendance in an NFL town.

So lets talk about Steeler Attendance at Heinz Field when they don't win:

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette (12/14/13) wrote an article entitled "On the Steelers: How low can attendance go".

Excerpts:

"Last Sunday they (Steelers) experienced their second smallest crowd at Heinz-52,489 with 13,000 no-shows. That dragged down the average attendance this season to 59,376 which would be the lowest since moving into Heinz in 2001 and that game meant more to them than tonights game because a victory would have kept the Steelers in the race for a playoff spot."

"The previous low average attendance at Heinz occurred during their 6-10 season of 2003 (59,698) with 2 meaningless games left as the Steelers try to avoid their 1st losing record since that lowly attended 2003 season, they could have crowds dip lower than 50,000.
The last time that happened came during their 6-10 season at Three Rivers Stadium in 1999
when they had 3 games below 50,000 including one at 39,428."

A poorly performing Steelers Program is not immune to attendance problems.

You are right. And I think as we win more, the overall attendance will improve. It'll also help that we have some big name programs coming to Heinz over the next few years. Heck, I think we have WVU, Tennessee, and Notre Dame for one year.

However, I also think there's other factors that play into it, like opponent and time of day. I think for a team like Nova or YSU, we're not going to fill out Heinz and have people filling up the rotundas. But I do think if we start winning we can get numbers for those games to the likes of 55-60,000. Regardless, it's going to be a lot of fun the next few years and beyond. :)

so you are 70 and could never escape the vast cowfield that is central pa? are you telling us you failed at life for sympathy or just general info to store away?

LOL. Some of you guys crack me up. But since you seem so interested (I was going to say envious and fascinated but in the spirit of civility I won't stoop to your level)

I am 61 and retired at 54 because my career at a Fortune 500 company (in Pittsburgh of all places!) was very lucrative and allowed me the ability to retire early and live very comfortably for the rest of my life. I sold my home in Allegheny county and moved to Happy Valley. I've had a small weekend home here for many years which I also sold and my two residences are now a larger home I built here and a waterfront vacation home in Stone Harbor, NJ.

I still have many friends in Pittsburgh, lots of them Pitt alums whom I both respect and consider great folks. In fact one of my best buddies in the city invited us to stay with his family while we're in town next weekend for the game and next year he has the same invitation while in State College. My Pittsburgh friends and I have always had a good-natured rivalry because of our respective alma maters but it was always civil, respectful and friendly. I don't really know if some of the folks who inhabit these anonymous message boards (and I also include Penn State fans into the equation) are capable of grasping that concept. Sadly, I admit to lowering myself to that level while on these boards on occasion. I offer my apologies for that.

I will refrain from posting here until later in the season when, hopefully, tempers have subsided and league play is more on the minds of everyone. Good luck the rest of the year...except for this Saturday, of course! ;)

And you Love Joe Paterno. A great Man. A great leader who couldn't stop the monster. He didn't know.

The attendance thing is bizarre, but that is all the Pedsters have anymore. For decades, the Pedsters would brag abuot how Joe knew everything that went on in that town and how clean his program was and what a juggernaut he built by doing things the right away.

Fast forward to 2016 Ohio St. kicks the crap out of Nitters nearly every year, the program is midpack in the Big 10, Joe was a bumbling fool who did not even know his long-time assistant was raping boys in the locker room.

"Success with Honor" has been replaced with "Hey. did you see the dozens of people in the upper deck for that game against a MAC team?

I am still waiting to see Alabama or Ohio St. or LSU brag about attendance instead of winning. or at least playing for national titles.

So you realize Joe knew that Sandusky was evil right? Even the players knew in the 80s and 90s. A former team captain in the early 80s told me Paterno called UVA personally to tell AD to stay clear of Sandusky when it was looking like they were going to hire Sandusky. UVA then hired the guy from the Air Force.

You do realize Joe knew TiredLion right?

So if your post is true, you are obviously a bright guy that has enjoyed a good career. You are smart and successful!!! So obviously to any smart and normal individual it would be obvious that Joe knew everything. I'll ask you a yes or no question. Did Joe know in your opinion?

I love attendance crap.......The Steelers never played to 94K either. Do you think PSU football is more popular than the Steelers?

Tired.. Do you set your alarm to go off at 4:09....

You cult buddies get us banned on your cult line.. Remember if you live in the past you'll be in the past...

Joe knew and is burning and burning and burning... Now wipe the tears from your eyes and go put flowers on the grave...

That's pretty sad. You have no ambition other than to live in the creepy place with the child rape culture? There are better places to live all around, if you look. Geez, get out of there while you can and before you die.

There is no reason for a financially comfortable retiree to move from the Pittsburgh area to the back of beyond in Crappy Valley unless your family is there or you are enthralled with or plan to practice farming a la Green Acres sans Eva Gabor. What could possibly be the attraction, distance from any minority contamination or the heartwarming sight of crosses ablaze against the backdrop of an October moon?
