To be fair, which I know SMF has no desire to be, the only reason why they played Uzbekistan is because they were supposed to be playing one of the better Asian teams in this window and because of covid rules whomever that was had to drop out late in the process. So they were basically stuck with two options. Play a crappy team like Uzbekistan or don't play any games in this window.
They decided that it was better to call in a bunch of young players to play a crappy opponent than to not play any games at all.

What can we say? There’s a market for them and a perception that their quality is great so there’s a premium attached to them. It’s actually similar to the premium placed on the $375 Nike soccer boots that perceptually are top of the line…but it’s all in the name (because they’re garbage).

Their quality is great, compared to countries where girls grow up with zero organized teams to play for, while our girls get intense training from age 4 on if they want it. I have a niece lives in Athens Greece, she's about 16 now, once she was here visiting about 6 years ago, at the time my daughter was playing high school and club soccer, so while she was here, she went and watched my daughter's games, she was so excited! She said, "I wish I could play football, there are no teams at all for girls where I live"... a major European soccer crazy city of 5 million people. and Greece is a developed European country, Truth is in a lot of the world, girls are supposed to play with dolls and learn to cook for their future husbands and there is little soccer development going on, and that's the teams that USAWNT is beating 9-1. Uzbekistan is a Muslim nation too! I'm sure they aren't having too many leagues for young girls to play soccer, if any.
The USSF should have offered free mental exams on the spot for all in attendance.
More than I'd like since a portion of my ticket purchases probably goes to subsidize the women's team.

Most of the fans of USWNT don't analyze their opposition like you or I do, they just have fun being the best Women's soccer team in the world-which they are, without analyzing WHY.
The men's team also has every home game or away game televised on either ESPN, FOX or CBS. I'd be willing to bet that the men's competitions like the Gold Cup, Nations League, WCQ etc. cost the networks more for TV rights.

The U.S. had Japan or Korea lined up (hasn’t been confirmed which that I have seen) but whichever nation it was had to pull out due to COVID leaving the USSF scrambling with a two-week runway to find a replacement. UEFA is in 2023 World Cup qualifying in this window and the top other top nations from CONCACAF and South America already had friendlies lined up.
The USSF considered just running a camp, but because they were inviting in so many younger players they decided that the games were important to play despite the opposition.
I tried to explain that to SMF, but he never lets the facts get in the way of his opinion.
I'm not "woke." I simply am on the side of "what's right." My views are my views, not some stupid political party's. As for Rapinoe, she's good with me because I agree with most of what she stands for, except for USWNT team players getting paid as much as men despite being on the level of a top-tier middle school boys team and generating far less worldwide revenue.

Didn't know that, mostly just look at TV listings, not news in advance of who they might play and why.
You realize those 20K people probably enjoyed it immensely, They just saw their team who they worship as #1 in the world kick ass. Many people don't care who they beat or why it was so easy.
I am a big fan of the USWNT. I think since what, 1998 I have probably seen 80-90% of their matches when televised. So I am not a chauvinistic snob.
But that is the problem with women's sports. Depth of competition. Soccer is getting better right? But still few teams can challenge the USWMNT. I totally love the US/Canada women's hockey rivalry. Every game is epic. The problem is, there are just the two of them, (Sweden though is getting better).
Same with women's hoops both International and collegiate. Just a few strong teams.

I watched them for years with my kids. The founding ladies put US Womens soccer on the map, but when it turned the corner to a different personality I lost interest.

Yea, South Carolina was shutting teams out in full quarters and didnt they only give up like 2 or 4 points in a half? So that tells me the difference between Team 1 and Team 200 in women's basketball is about the same as Team 1 and Team 1000 in men's basketball

I was a big fan of hers back when the WNT was Wambach’s team. But then when some of the older players like Wambach moved on, rapinoe became the seniored member of the team and started to become a leader, it all went to her head and she took things to a different level. She might be a roll model for some in the Progressive community, but she’s a POS.

Uzbekistan are amateurs. Honestly, I doubt they even play for a team other than Uzbekistan as I doubt there any women's rec leagues in Uzbekistan.
The difference in talent level between Pitt and Duq/RMU is much closer than USA/Uzb. USA/Uzb is like Pitt vs Mount Lebanon
Not really, they are entertained and made happy by it, it's like going to PNC park for beer and fireworks, a night out, just for fun, like going to a movie or something. Most people don't take sports as seriously as you do. That's why there are those dozen diehard Riverhounds fans
, they want a pro soccer team near their home and they go there and wear scarves and chant and don't care about the quality of play because being there is what they want most.
There are women who entered that program one way, and exited the other. There was a culture there that was crafted by the strongest personality in the room.
So in woke circles, she would be celebrated for encouraging them to be their true selves and live their best life
