with a staff of M.Rice, B.Knight and K.Sutton. (Capel did not seem as confident about Knight in his last Fan interview)

Would you be disappointed that Capel did not bring in someone exciting and new or think it would be a great staff that fit our needs?

I would be thrilled with that staff. Has he specifically mentioned Rice? I had assumed he was just a wish from various posters and not a real option.

It would seem somewhat disappointing, but it is his call and he will sink or swim based on these hires, so I'm sure he will make the best hires he thinks he can. I don't think anyone can blame Pitt for limiting his options, as they have made it clear they will operate with a budget that allows success.

How would Mike Rice be a wish and not a realistic hire? He is co-coaching HS basketball. It is certainly one of the better programs in the country, but if Pitt signs off with the past behavioral issues, there is little doubt he would jump at the chance.

OK. Rice is certainly AHC material and I believe his image has been sufficiently rehabilitated. He is still young enough to track back to a HC job so I'm sure he'll be on best behavior.

I think Knight fits well in the second chair though he may be looking for more given his prior role here with JD.

There at other schools looking at him.

I truly do not care who Capel specifically brings in as his assistants. Its his decision to make and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will hire assistants he likes and has confidence will do a quality job. Having local and/or past Pitt ties might be nice but isn't a necessity, IMO, since there isn't a sufficient quantity of local area talent to require an assistant with local ties.

I really couldn't care less whether Knight came or not. Frankly I think he's probably a little pissed off because he was considered for the Pitt job.

He'd have to be delusional to think he was qualified for the HC job either time. He needs to start at somewhere like Stony Brook or Binghamton based on his current resume. I tend to think he realizes this. But joining Capel's staff could be a good opportunity to raise his profile and advance his career.

Let me go with this answer for now ... I'm enthused by the hire and Jeff Capel and without any evidence to offer in any other direction, I'll be satisfied with whomever he hires if he believes it will help him get the job done. In short, I've never been all that concerned with assistants.

I'd find it difficult to get upset about any group of assistants that includes Mike Rice. I think hiring him would be a home run for a variety of reasons - still relatively young and would be motivated to have success after being persona non grata for so long, great recruiter who has links to top AAU talent, recruits areas that align with Pitt's historical bread basket, lots of coaching experience, etc. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about Knight or Sutton. While I'd prefer one rather than both, I'd also be more than willing to give Capel the benefit of the doubt no matter who he ends up hiring.
