Has Pitt ever not signed anyone in the early period?

I love Capel but you have to admit that its extremely rare to not sign anyone. Even Stallings signed borderline Top 100 player Marcus Carr.

For now, I will believe that Capel is shooting high and won't resort to signing players in the 250+ category yet. But he has a lot of work to do in the Spring. This is obviously a very important class

Is there anyone that we are in the running for that plans to announce and sign this week, but hasnt yet committed?

Do you ever stop?

I would bet as a plan B he has high level 2020 guys eyed up who can reclassify like mcgowans.

Maybe that can become his niche. People do it different ways. I'm not sure how reliable that is but its kind of hard to believe he isn't really recruiting lesser-ranked players. I guess that's a good sign? Jamie would get scared and raid the MAC for recruits but then you are stuck with them unless you cut them (which he often did). Maybe Capel wont bring in a guy unless he's sure of him

Don't you think we ought to wait until we see how the early signing period plays out before getting worked up over who Capel missed out on?

Some of the guys being recruited may not sign with Pitt or anyone else in the early period. I believe Akok Akok has been reported as debating whether to hold off on deciding until the spring, as an example.

Two of Pitt's priority targets aren't signing in the early period. Marcus Carr was not a borderline top 100 player according to any reputable recruiting service and I don't think you'd be very happy with another signing like that, would you? Capel got 3 guards in his first class and they all look a lot better than Carr. Relax.

Yes Carr was and yes, I would be happy with another Marcus Carr. Carr is a good player.

A "good" player who couldn't shoot from the floor or three point range, who couldn't finish at the rim, who struggled to get to the rim, who couldn't defend, and a guard who turned the ball over too much.

I would NOT be happy with another Carr after seeing what we have now. He averaged 10 ppg, but needed a bunch of shots to get them and played on an offense where they took one terrible shot after another all season long. Our guards are already better than him, even though it is a small sample size. Answer this....which guards would you chose for Pitt right now in order from 1st to 3rd: Carr, McGowens, Johnson. For me, it's Johnson, McGowens, then Carr.

Only 20 Top 150 players remain unsigned, not counting the Top 10 who are mostly all unsigned as bidding will go up to spring.

Just heard that Akok Akok may be considering going pro immediately without playing college at all.

Yea. If anything, seems like a 1 and done. Still would like to have him for a year but its probably best to start going hard after the fallbacks and reclassification eligible guys

1. McGowens
2. Johnson
3. Stewart
4. Toney
5. Carr

But I still think Carr is a good player and I'd be thrilled if a guy like that was backing up at the guard spot the next few years

No, Carr wasn't. Nobody takes Rivals seriously anymore, which is what I assume you're referring to. 247 had Carr ranked 146 in the nation and the composite ranked him at 168. He was not a borderline top 100 prospect unless you're defining "borderline top 100" as anyone ranked between 100 and 200.

Carr's alright. He has a ceiling as a good sixth man, which is much closer to the floor of the players we've replaced him with. Nobody should miss Carr.

Johnson and Mcgowens have shown more in 3 games than Carr did all of last year.

They have. They're also on another planet in terms of athleticism.

I actually did like Carr a fair bit, but there were just too many flaws. Wasn't great at anything and left a lot to be desired as an athlete. These guys we've brought in are starting with a much higher floor because they're elite athletes instead of mediocre ones.

I thought Carr was much better suited to play off the ball, but since we didn’t have a PG he was forced into running the point. He was not quick, and could not get to the rim.

Honestly, I would take Parker Stewart back before him as a set shooter that could come off the bench and knock down some shots.

Marcus Carr, why would anyone be mentioning him?
I'd be real happy with Tyrese Samuel and Kareem Coulilibay, those dudes got good offensive skills. And very attainable. if we can't get Qudus.
Plus wondering how much we'll be in the running for Ethan Morton in 2020. Marcus Carr, lol he wouldn't even see the floor in this team
