A lot of Pitt fans seem to think if we are fortunate to win Xavier is a good match up. I checked Vegas odds on winning tourney. We are 300 to one, Xavier is 28 to one. That doesn't seem to be a real great match up to me. Will be watching Nelly Cummings this evening and if anybody is interested will report on him let me know

Those overall odds to win the tourney have little to do with an individual game.

By good match up I think people mean there's at least a chance we could win. Compare that with other 2 seeds, like MSU, and Xavier sea alot better. Looking forward to your report on Cummings. It seems like he's really good but his lack of offers is surprising. He's a ridiculous athlete.

Using Pomeroy's predictions, Pitt has odds of 43.8%, 38.1%, and 35.9% for the first three rounds, should they make it to any of them. Odds against Xavier aren't really that much worse than Wisconsin. Pitt had only 25% when we played UNC a week ago, for reference.

I don't think many folks are predicting a sweet 16 run- but Xavier appears to be a team we might have 20-25% chance of beating; as opposed to 10-15% vs the other 2 seeds.
I read somewhere Pitt has 2nd highest odds (behind Gonzaga) of all the double digit seeds to advance to the sweet 16-- something like a 15% chance.

Perhaps Pitt can reverse the narrative we've been on the other side of so many times.

Would that be the same Vegas that would make the hypothetical Pitt/Xavier game about a 5 point spread?

It is a much bette alternative than being placed in the 8/9 game or having MSU lurking in the next round. That is why people are positive.

Yea Xavier would be about a 4 or 5 point favorite. Doable for sure. They are better but not much better. I would guess Kansas would be favored by 12-14. This is why its so much better to be a 10 than a 8 or 9. Hope we make the most of it.
