Also have the Black Bears, which are actually located in Morgantown and use WVU's home field as their ballpark. Short season ball.
The team used to be located in State College, but State College terminated the relationship during the previous CBA because that's where all of the high school kids got sent to do nothing but throw fastballs.
If you go to the Pirates game on July 27 you will get a Pirates hat with a Pitt logo on it. If you miss that one and this really bothers you you can also go to the game on September 9 and get the same hat.

Bob Nutting must think that Pitt fans can't afford these kinds of hats but WVU fans can, and that's why he's charging them money. I am outraged.
The Pirates have a college night for each of the local schools. It appears Pitt night is July 27. But Nutsack is still a bum.
I watched the Pirates game on a Root cable broadcast in Beckley WV on the way to the VT game last year.
So as far as rooting for the Pirates, yeah, WV is local, as is Erie, PA, which I believe is closer to Cleveland than it is to Pittsburgh.

No, they aren't just for students. They are for anyone who buys their tickets either through Pitt or through the Pitt offer on the pirates' Web page.
What you are getting at is that you think a business person should restrict their ability to sell products based on what college the potential customer attended or roots for. I'd call that moronic, buy quite frankly that would give it more credit than it deserves.

IMO I think Nutting needs to not promote any college team or take his business to wheeling or morganhole. Wv always wants to use Pittsburgh to promote their products. Since nutsack is the owner and businessman, the Pirates aren't going anywhere.
Heaven forbid the Pirates want to keep an expanding fan base engaged! They should focus promotions only on North Catholic grads and native-born Pittsburghers.
WVU is certainly not a great University when put against Pitt and many other top schools. Much of the student population is close to as bargain basement as you can get at a large state school in a P5 conference. Heck, WVU might be the worst academic school in P5, but it sure is funny when pierre93 criticizes them because there is no way he could even print off a degree from WVU.
