Of course they produced Tom Brady, so they got that going for them.

But...........

Name the last Big 10 QB to be drafted in the First Round?????

Answer coming in next post.

Yep. A mere 22 years ago.
Yea that was discussed on the fan about Wednesday last week. Great reminder how that conference is so over rated. The only thing they do well is put people in the seats. That is more of a product of land grant state colleges and other factors also.

And that comes from the Penn State Program known for producing the biggest NFL Busts in not only the Big Ten but entire FBS too for the last 4 Decades and last two in the Big Ten during the Modern Era and with Paterno's Error of lacking Athletic Integrity?

Franklin is out to change that poor and ruined record of results in the NFL, but it still persist in the NFL even with recent PSU 4 Star Recruits turn into NFL failures these last 3 years?

For example, Allen Robinson once a Top Recruit for Penn State did well in the NFL in his first years, but now called "ARob" since he is Robbing the Jaguars Blind on his
$900,000 in the final year of his rookie deal.

In 2016 ARob has devolved into a low-floor bottom-barrel Third Wideout at best the last 8 games of last season? They hope in 2017 he can go back just being adequate. We shall see but is starting to look like an another Draft Busts?

Many NFL Suspect the same could happen to Godwin that Franklin often kept in even with some big hits because they couldn't win without him.

I mention I liked Chris Godwin for the Steeler's at The William Penn Hotel on Friday and the whisper then was why the Steeler's would pass on Godwin being said, Godwin might "Wow" people at Penn State & in B1G but doubts in the NFL?

Even Pitt, Michigan, Wisky were able to shutdown Godwin and Steeler's felt Godwin won’t “Wow” people as a physical specimen in the NFL. Godwin has a some Big Games but is an average looking WR for the NFL, and will need more toughness and polish to upgrade his skills in the NFL.

Most Penn State Recruits and Players usually fail at that especially the way they played so badly against better Coaches & Teams.

Chris had a Great Game against USC and that really push his stock up and his combine, but it is still remembered he did not fight for the Ball against McQuay that made the Interception and cost Penn State the Rose Bowl Win, and NFL looks down on that kind of lack of near last plays when it counts. Many feel he had lucky catches more than consistent catching.

I liked Godwin and thought he could be another Antonio Brown, but on Friday sitting at William Penn with honoring The Pirate's Robert Nutting. There I was told the Steeler's would picked someone else like others WRs like JuJu because he is way more consistent in every game. They were right!

We shall see how Godwin handles the NFL?

That's amazing when ya think about it.

I know. Almost a quarter of a century without a #1 pick at the QB position. Again, they have placed Brady and Brees into the NFL during that time so that stat probably is overlooked. But 1995. Kerry Collins with the 5th overall pick. Imagine all the 4 and 5 star QB's that went into the Big 10 during this time frame??

That's an amazing stat on it's own. But, add to it that Kerry Collins was never a star.

He did play for a long time, but that's about the best thing I can say for him.

17 years; 2 pro bowls; one Super Bowl loss; 12 of 17 years played his teams had a losing record.

And, he's a drunk. So, he's got that going for him.

I disagree, Kerry was the best QB to come out of Penn State and that 1994 Team broke many NCAA Offensive Records and had the Best Talent ever. Kerry went to Super Bowls too and just missed winning it, but he battle and overcame an Alcohol Problem the entire career. He was Great in College and Very good in the NFL along with Bobby Engram, Witman, Jurevicius, Hartings, all had long NFL Careers! Kerry was honest about his Drinking and deserves credit for dealing with everyday.

About the same time, Penn State started to cover up many things about the Program not just Sandusky, so they could compete in the Big Ten and eventually went into slow decline and downward spiral when they should have retired or fired JVP because his Ego grew Bigger PSU Campus!

Ki Jana Carter and Kyle Brady were just selected as Two Biggest NFL Draft Busts For Bengals & Jets in their NFL Club's History an Enis too in Chicago by CBS Sports!

Penn State Recruits often come with much Fanfare and did well in College in the Big Ten at first from 1993-1996, but once fully assimilated were humbled and struggled in the Big Ten. They always produced more than a few NFL Players that could not hack it in the NFL too!

These are Facts that no Penn State fan can refute!

Losing the Super Bowl 7-34 while throwing 4 interceptionso isn't my definition of "just missed winning it."

I said nothing about his college career.

I do not disagree with you on that Fact at all. I was just pointing out as Owtie put up, Kerry Collins was Great in 1994 and had a pretty good long run in the NFL, unlike most Penn State High Draft Picked Players and that is a proven Fact too!

I meant no offense and accept your comment as equal content. I was at William Penn on Friday with some Pirate Brass that came to Honor their Owner Nutting and sat at table where NFL Draft talk was taking place. They mentioned why the Steeler's will passed on Godwin!

Odd Owtie brought it up how Big Ten has to go back to Kerry Collins and a timely topic on Lair Board and spot on as are you!

I learned few things getting a Tour of the Andy Warhol Museum and William Penn Tours too. I may post them later!

Kerry did have a great year in '94. No doubt about that.

One other thing. His battle with alcohol was a very public thing. I was living in North Carolina when he was drafted, and it seems from a very early point in his career a picture of him being drunk or hung over was plastered (pun intended) on our evening news.

Thank you always appreciate more information not less. Sounds like Penn State was doing another "Cover Up" again as the world know now. I went to the Rose Bowl with some Penn State Friends and enjoyed that and subsequent other things we saw that week like the Nixon Presidential Museum and stayed later one night on the Queen Mary at Long Beach, won't do that again.

No one ever talked about Kerry Collins Drinking Problem back then in 1994 or 1995, but like you say, Pro Clubs learn everything they can before Draft Day and no question your own experiences proved it with the Facts. Later Collins got some DUI we were told, but that was often covered up at Penn State back then, as many know today!

Succes With Silence Scandals!

Thanks again!

Cap'n.... my estimation of you dropped a notch. I view you as the fairest, balanced responders on the Board. however, your admission that you attended anything to do with that hoopie carpetbagger pirate owner, made me puke. nutting is (one)of the worst owners in baseball. he has been entrusted with a public asset, and allowed it to degrade.. he's already made his meager, fire sale, investment back, and now due to inflation, has a sub billion dollar asset. nutting is a boil on the neck of the Pittsburgh sports public.shame ,shame, captain.

I stand convicted without any excuses! I have to admit we were all thinking what you were hanging on me, and some wonder why he was Honored and well you are at it, Penn State Alumnus Mayor Peduto and Pitt MBA Grad got the City of Pittsburgh History wrong too, many sitting at the tables.

The Pennsylvania Society decided to honor Nutting and the Pirates were as cheap as they come, giving us all just some Pirate Scarf as Memento's. When the we Honored Dan Rooney the Steeler's gave a Basket of Gifts Gift's from Hats to Footballs at every Table Center Pieces and Private Tours of Heinz Field.

I went up to Mayor Peduto and asked him why No Protests of Penn State not extending PITT=PSU Series to bring a Million to Pittsburgh every year, his response I have nothing to do it with it sheepishly i might add?

One Pitt Grad heard him and then whisper Mayor Stupido and as a semi-political gathering, said time to use his own words against him by his fellow opponents not calling out his Alma Mater to renew the series for Pittsburgh's Economic benefit!

To my Defense, as lame as it may be, when I am invited to Pirate Games I walk the PNC Park for exercise because I don't even know much on them. I do enjoy the Food and PNC Park but I gave up watching and following them in1990s.

I did learn how they got the Name "Pirates" though so it was worth the Luncheon. Nutting told us, the Club once stole a Player's Contract away from Philadelphia Team, and they went Public and called them..."Piratical"....and it was often used in Newspapers in other cities....so they adopted it as the Teams Name since 1891!

Does that at least give me a Pardon and may it please the Judges on the Lair, I just went to Luncheon and did not choose the people who spoke and were Honored?

Crazy thinking about all that wasted talent. I really never realized this discussion but I'm keeping it in my back pocket. My dad played at Purdue and I get stuck with Big Ten turds all the time that bust my chops.

Was Brees the first overall pick in the second round? If I'm not mistaken that year San Diego traded #1 overall pick to Atlanta (Vick) and took Tomlinson at #5 overall then turned around and took Brees at #32 overall (last year with 31 teams.)

And yet it is still radio silence from the FAN boy media in Pittsburgh who like to root, root, root for the Pirates. Amazing that the window of opportunity was there and Nutting refused to capitalize on it and was not called out for it. Heck, the fan boy media like Smizik, et al, didn't say a peep during the 20 year futility streak. The just loved romanticizing about baseball and how wonderful spending a night at PNC park was.

And most of the fans don't seemed bothered by it judging by attendance and their quick defense of Nutting any time he is attacked in cyberspace.
