The Quarterback whose name shall not be mentioned gets some payback against the Stillers

I never thought I would see the day when the Philadelphia Eagles would be a classier organization then the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not only did the Steelers fail to develop an offense around KP but they used the press to trash him on the way out.

I don't know. The Steelers have employed a pretty long list of known trashy character guys for the last 20 years or so. This may not be new.

Pickett wasn't a mistake. When teams need a QB and have a chance to get the top guy that late, it's worth the chance. It didn't work out and they moved on. Teams make bigger mistakes with obvious reaches or leaving bad players in the starting lineup to justify the draft position or big contract.

At the end of the day, Pickett is one of the luckier quarterbacks to have ever played the game. Mid-round talent who, in his 5th year of college, latches onto a first-class receiver, along with having an old drunken OC who gets his jollies off with throwing the ball even when you're up by 60 points on an FCS team in the 4th quarter.

Combine that with a historically awful QB draft class, and now all of a sudden teams and draft analysts alike are convincing themselves this dude might be a first rounder. Now, not everyone is havin' themselves some of that Kool-aid. Certain draft analysts wouldn't budge on calling him a mid-round talent, and we saw 19 guys come off the board before him, which almost never happens in such a QB-starved league (I mean, look at some of the quarterbacks taken in the top 19 every year). But, eventually, a GM on his way out gets ultra paranoid that his legacy will be akin to what the Steelers didn't do in 1983. So they take Kenny.

Now, you may say the circumstances were not ideal (they seldom are for quarterbacks in the NFL). But the fact remains that, because he was a first round pick, not only has he already banked more money than most of us will ever make... he also received opportunity after opportunity to show that he should be a starting quarterback in this league. Had he been taken in the 4th round, he'd have always been doing what he's doing now and no one would have thought anything of it. But, boy oh boy, did the stars ever align for Kenny Pickett.

I mean, yeah - plenty of teams that needed a starter this season could have acquired him for basically nothing and elected not to, so it's possible that his luck has ran out. But what a run if has been. And he's still cashing those first round checks.

amazing. i mean, you are damned if you do and damned if you dont with signing these qbs to ridiculous contracts. it's either 40m or cut them. no in between..

feel like steelers are going to have to make a drastic decision here in a few months too.

No one disputes that, other than the eagles player. But it’s an NFL arm according to scouts. And not a noodle arm as some (or one particular poster) here said. The knock on Kenny was his hand size. That’s why he wasn’t considered a top half of the draft guy.
meh, arm strength is average at best to be honest. def not his strong point
Anyways, he will likely always be an NFL journeyman. But the point remains…Rudolph didn’t save the season from Kenny. I think the Steelers only lost 2 games that Kenny started and finished. Certainly you can acknowledge that.

The stillers WR1 for Pickett was just cut by the Ravens. The offensive roster was comically bad.
Not only that but there were always injuries to weapons. Sometimes it was the guy the ravens cut. Sometimes it was Friermuth. Often the only legit player to throw to was a guy (Pickens) who only ran routes when he wanted to.

Imagine being a 2nd year QB working with that with Canada calling the plays.

That Jacksonville loss ain't on Kenny. 10/16 for 73 yards through two quarters, as he helped the Steelers post a whopping three points and missed a layup throw to Pickens along the sidelines and a high school-difficulty would-be TD to Johnson that had fans booing.

And the Texans game certainly ain't on big Ken. 114 yards and six points through three quarters, in a game we lost by 24, as he spun left for the 45th time into a sack that knocked him out of the game.

Hell, I'm not putting the loss to the great DTR on him either. He played the whole game, but I'm sure something happened that made it not his fault. Was it windy?

The decision was always to start over in a year or two. If you can sign RW for $5mil/yr, great. Enjoy being a .500 team. If they dump big money into an old subpar QB, lololololololol.

You really go out of your way regarding Pickett refuting points that no one is making.

And you like to bury seeds in dirt but claim you weren't trying to grow a tree.

Kenny only lost two games he started and finished is about as disingenuous of a stat as it gets. Too bad they didn't bench him in that 49ers game, as they should have. He could be 7-1!

Perhaps you missed where I said he was 7-4? Of course you did. I had no interest in discussing the 2 games he didn’t finish because it’s really getting into the weeds. With the way he performed in 4th quarters, it’s hard to fault him for games he didn’t have the chance to play in those 4th quarters. But I wasnt interested in discussing them as at least one of them was out of reach because they got destroyed on both sides of the ball from the onset. 7-4 in itself with the two worst teams in football at home looming is a season not needing rescued. But go ahead and refute it. You’d be wrong.

Solid scout team QB in his 3rd season, apparently per a teammate.

That’s about where the Pickett as NFL QB debate starts and ends.

Revenge is a dish best served from the cold end of the bench.

the plan? the steelers organization never had a 1 or 2 year plan for the qb. if you think this was some sort of thought out, well coordinated plan, you are nuts.

A QB of Kenny's pedigree should be sitting and learning behind a proven nfl veteran for 3 years before being handed the reigns. This was standard procedure for the NFL until 15-20 years ago. Don't blame the kid for that. See, for example, Aaron Rodgers. Impatience and fawning over potential or just a new face selling hope-ium to the fans has replaced that, to the detriment of the league.

Or how about Jordan Love?

Good timing. His replacement is personally throwing away his 2nd game in a row.

You mean his replacement who’s a 14 year NFL starting QB, 9 time pro bowler, and Super Bowl champ?

What does that have to do with a 3rd year guy who runs scout team?

One personally lost games the last 2 weeks and the other didn't... If we are going off of who guys used to be, why didn't you post Tom Brady's? It's just as relevant today.

I may have watched a different game, but the Steelers defense couldn't stop Henry and gave up over 200 yards on the ground. That was a huge reason they lost today.

Pretty sure a guy has to play in games to have a hand in losing them.

KP is undefeated as scout team QB.
