Herman Fired

Surprising, I thought he would have gotten one more year with the new QB who looked way better than Elligher.
Losing to OU year after year will get you fired. That plus the rise of A&M makes for a hard time keeping that job.

Why I'm shocked Harbaugh still is in charge of UM. Hasn't beaten OSU yet and hasn't even come close since 16. The rest have been blowouts or comfy OSU wins.

I find all of this very interesting. They said they were bringing him back for 2021, even before their dominant bowl win. The only way I saw them eating that type of buyout, especially this long after the fact, was for someone like Urban Meyer.

Is Sarkisian an upgrade over Herman? We shall see...

The wheels came off this year for Harbaugh, but in the end, UM *should* lose to OSU every year. OSU is just in another tier compared to every program not named Alabama.

Texas shouldn’t lose to OU every year. And they shouldn’t be losing to the other teams that get them every year.

We don't have the money but if there ever was a year to dump Whipple and adopt the spread this is the year. You could potentially have Malzahn or Herman as the OC.. Just a dream..
Can you imagine what Pickett could do under either OC?

With all of UT money they should be in the CFP.

If Pitt ever decided to move on from Narduzzi he would be at the top of my list good offensive pedigree and he wasn’t as good as Texas wanted but I think he could do well at Pitt.
I think he will end up at a low tier SEC school Big 10. But would take if anything happen to HCPN.

Nothing pisses off the donors, the Board of Regents and the alumni at Texas more, than Texas A&M doing better than them. That'll automatically get you fired. It's no accident that when one is better than the other, someone gets fired...Example:

In 2012 while playing in the SEC, Texas A&M finishes No. 5 with Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel…
In 2012 while playing in the Big 12, Texas finishes No. 19

In 2013, while playing in the SEC, Texas A&M finishes No.18
In 2013, while playing in the Big 12, Texas finishes out of the Top 25

Texas fires Mack Brown

In 2014, 2015 and 2016, Texas A&M finishes 8-5, 8-5, 8-5
In 2014, 2015 and 2016, New Texas coach Charlie Strong finishes 6-7, 5-7, 5-7

Texas fires Charlie Strong

In 2017, Texas A&M finishes 7-6.
In 2017, Texas hires rising coaching star, Tom Herman and finishes 7-6

Feeling they are losing their grip on Texas, Texas A&M fires Kevin Sumlin...

In 2018, 2019, 2020, Texas finishes 10-4 (No.9), 8-5, 7-3
In 2018, 2019, 2020, Texas A&M finishes 9-4, 8-5, and currently sitting at 8-1 and No.5 in the country…

Texas looks at this as a trend in the wrong direction…. Out goes Herman…

Honestly, how does Texas expect to overtake Texas A&M now? The Aggies responded to UT’s success by hiring a national championship coach. The Longhorns respond by... hiring an offensive coordinator with an average head coaching record (assuming it’s Steve Sarkisian)?

Lol. Surprised you didn’t say Alabama and your PSU are on a tier above of their own.

Bingo! They made a bad hire.

Hire Urban Myer or another elite coach..perhaps the coach at Utah??
Luke Fickell would be a good candidate

Exactly. That’s the difference. Michigan fans might hate it, but for the most part, Harbaugh has them exactly where Michigan should be.
Herman didn’t have Texas where Texas should be.

Not necessarily. Michigan football spends and earns in the top 3-4. So if it’s all about money, they should beat OSU occasionally and make the CFP at least once in a while. But they’re not even close to being a program that can do that.

Is Sark officially cured off the Wild Turkey? His habit got ugly at SC.

Must have been given who he has been working for the last several years. I get the sense Saban would require him to stay on the straight and narrow. And good for him, too. He lost his marriage and had seemingly lost his career. Hopefully he can make the most of his second chance at a high profile job.

If you wonder why Herman got fired just turn on the TV and look who is playing in a meaningful bowl game Iowa State.

The pressure cooker where he will be expected to win 13 games with a 12 game schedule may not be the best environment for him. Hope his agent negotiates a $50 million buy out. These dumbasses should have to pay for those expectations.

It will all work out for Tom Herman. He gets a $15 million buyout. He will likely just become Alabama’s offensive coordinator and make an additional 1 or 2 million per year.

Herman is an interesting guy. He would be a great candidate for Pitt if they decide to move on from Narduzzi. Runs a great offense. Originally from Cincinnati. Apparently the guy has an IQ at or above the 98th percentile.

I agree with your first paragraph.

I completely disagree with the second paragraph. He ripped Houston Cougar fans for not selling out their stadium. The guy would have a heart attack once he stepped onto the sidelines at Heinz Field. The next hire for Pitt should be Marcus Freeman if he is still available. Pitt needs to hire a young guy that HAS to win.

the questiom remains, in what other profession can you be caught drinking on the job and then still be allowed to be in charge of kids?
Sarkisian should be banished to the nfl
texas has severely compromised themselves and this is going to keep them floating in the lake of mediocrity. after living in austin for 3 years, i must say it couldnt happen to a better fan base

Yeah, Herman is pretty much known to be a dbag. But I guess that doesn't mean much if you win.

Maybe. But I don't know what is worse: that pressure cooker or having to perform week in and week out under Saban.

Major2, Steve Spurrier the list is long. I don’t agree with it but it is not usual. With that said I hope he got help and is dealing with it. I am all for second chances.

i dont disagree but majors2 and spurrier were not public like Sarkisian. usc announced they fired him specifically for this. majors2 had rumors but appeared to be more about on field
performance.

sarks is the really the only case where the university has made that outright statement

He’s definitely a dbag, with a huge ego, and not that great of a coach. He would never take a job at Pitt. I guarantee he thinks it’s beneath him. He’s a slightly better version of Todd Graham.
No thanks!!

Herman’s two head coaching spots have been at schools with direct access to talent pipelines.

Why would anybody want to bring him to Pitt? So we can see how he does not having elite talent?

Here is a story on a pretty good basketball coach moving up the ranks. His first job they told him he had $1000 for his recruiting budget as an assistant. He said okay I’ll figure out a way to make it work. His first HC job they told him he had $10,000 for his recruiting budget as a HC. He said at least I’m moving in the right direction. His second HC job at a higher level interviewed him and said all we can offer you is a $100,000 budget as the HC and asked if he wanted the job. He said yes and thought to himself he had a king’s ransom. This is the type of coach we need to hire. Someone who will appreciate the job and give his all. A guy who HAS to win. We want someone who wins here and if he moves onto better things after improving the program then fine.

A guy like Herman would be an awful fit here and it would end up like Todd Graham II.

Herman just got served a big, fat ass slice of humble pie. He learned his lesson the hard way like Lane Kiffin did. I suspect he will very much appreciate the next head job he gets, no matter where it is.

I will say I am not impressed by the hire. Sark’s long close relationship with Mr. John Daniels aside, what’s the likelihood that from a competence standpoint he could do better there than Herman? Based on body of work as a head coach to date, I’d say the odds are he’s a bust at TX.

The guy’s a helluva OC, no question. As Herman was. But HC is a whole different animal, especially at a place like TX. The expectations are for immediate major success.
