The only team in the city that has 15 consecutive winning seasons. The only one to have been to the postseason 15 consecutive years.

Oh yeah, and the only one with a bunch of internet know nothings that somehow think that's bad.

If the objective is to WIN a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP then we must be able to show progression towards that end. Not just a winning season. Not just consecutive NCAA appearances. We need to be players in the ACC TOURNAMENT and in the NCAA TOURNAMENT. Being one and done is old and tired and not acceptable. Just my opinion.ND is an example....they WON the ACC TOURNAMENT. Note Dame....

If you think that winning a National Championship is the only mark of a successful program, I suggest you follow a different sport. There are 350+ teams in D1. That is not a realistic goal.

It's the objective. I didn't say the only mark. You missed it. Then you decided to interpret itin such a way so that you can respond To your interpretation. Ok...cool. Pitt is a good program however we are unable to recruit a Center a SF and a SG that add impact. Other schools are able to do so, so why can't Pitt who we both agree is a "winning " program? We need to be able to make shots...defend dribble penetration....play kids at their proper positions and advance like "winning" programs do in the tournament.

I know for a fact that when Jamie Dixon interviewed for the job he said "In light of the fact that there are so many schools trying for this NC thing, my goal as a coach is to have a winning season"

A winning season just means at least one win over .500. Penn State also had a winning season, but went 4-14 in conference. I'm not impressed.

The way it finished was a debacle and an embarrassment.
None of the numbers help.

Fredart is a " low bar setter."

Fans with low expectations for the Pitt basketball program are worse than whinny fans!

if I said to my boss I had another good year but it was worse than last year he'd point to the door and say HR is in your office with some cardboard boxes. Get your stuff and your sorry a-s out of here asap!

If our target is to become an elite team just having a winning season which was worse than the year before is really setting the bar low. We have to begin showing progress toward the goal of being a winning tournament team.

I guess most fans disagree with you since they've stopped coming to games ( low attendance). Wait until they try to sell tickets at current pricing if this performance continues.

Trophies for all huh Fredact??????

The Nitters had a winning season so did lots of other loser teams!

GO Pitt!

And ND sucked butt last year. And could next year. Bad example to use them. Or maybe a good one. No team improves every year, it is technically impossible.

Agree 100% goat - Fredact is a low bar setter - the team sucked down the stretch

Winning seasons mean little anymore given the number of cupcakes teams play in the OOC schedule. I think the baseline should be winning seasons in conference play (which should always translate to postseason play in either the NCAA or NIT). I have no problem with the occasional NIT but our expectation should be to make the NCAA 70-80% of the time, make it to the round if 16 50% of the time, maybe get to the Elite Eight or higher once or twice every 10 years.

I'm not alarmed by our lack of success this year. I am somewhat worried that we don't currently have the talent on the roster to turn it around significantly next year. I don't believe we will tailspin back to the Willard era but do wonder if our baseline expectations will be lowered a bit (not the annual Sweet 16s we were used to).

We did not have a "winning" season. We were below .500 in conference

Almost every P5 conference team has a "winning" record.

In the ACC,, 11 out of 15 teams had "winning" records.
In the Big 12, 7 out of 9 teams had "winning" records.
In the Big 10 11 out of 14 teams had "winning" records.
In the Pac 12 9 out of 12 teams had "winning" records.
In the SEC : 10 out of 14 teams had "winning" records.

So that is 48 out of 64 teams have "winning" records in the Power 5 conferences. That is 75%. So congrats to Pitt for being in that top 75%.

Now that is aiming the bar high!!!

Yeah, a winning record is a really low bar.

That said, the fact that so many fans seem to think anything other than a top ten team and final fours is unacceptable is an absurdly high bar.

Not to those who have agendas, anyway.

It fits, wear it Owt.

WE HAVE THE RIGHT to say what we want! We don't have to be smiley face, rose colored glasses wearing, always positive, little pansy asss cheerleaders! It would be boring if you had message boards and nobody pointing it out when they REALLY SUCK, like they do now.

OK, you've vented now for 9,541 posts. We get it.

Take 2 Midol.

I understand that you and many others have to set high goals for whatever personal reason you may have. Personally, I don't assess my life by the success or failure of a sports team.

I myself am certainly not happy we lost the last 5 games after playing our way onto the bubble. But, I keep some healthy perspective. The only effect on my life is I'm not spending money going to some NCAAT site this week.

I will guarantee the players and coaches are MORE unhappy and frustrated than ANY fan. We pay a few dollars and devote a few hours each week during the season to watch games. They live their lives for years around basketball. It is their job and has been since junior high.

If you are a 1979 grad, as your handle would indicate, you watched MANY teams much worse than this one. Grg's '76-77 tram won only 6 games. The later Evans teams and the Williard teams were horrible and had players being arrested.

It's a sport. It's entertainment, not life and death.

Fredart sets the bar so low, he probably celebrates when his kids fart but don't sh!t themselves.

I don't assess my life by it either, not even close! I'm not at all personally unhappy because of this, I'm too busy to be! But to me, part of the ENTERTAINMENT, and the FUN, is coming here and getting into HIGHLY HEATED discussions about it all,

I particularly enjoy saying what I really think with no concern as to how others will take it. I do this in person too with personal friends that might not agree with me. I enjoy THE DEBATE AND ARGUMENT itself as recreation and part of the entertainment derived from sport.

Yes you do.

Tough to not laugh when calling this season a "Winning season." Yeah, include those tough early season matchups that Dixon loves so much and technically its a winning season.. If that is what you have to tell yourself to feel better at night, have at it..

I continue to laugh at all the yinzers that don't understand the success of this program. Go watch the Steelers, a team that plays in a 4 team division and plays half there schedule against "cupcakes". They'll win a division every couple of years, because there are only 4 teams! And yeah, they won a half dozen championships over 90 years, but there were only 10 teams for a lot of that time, and even now only 30.
Sorry the math is so hard for some.

You must live an average life, fans all over the world in every sport want to win championships and you're happy with status quo.

Hey sloppy, everybody here wants to win a championship. However, some people realize that it isn't very likely, and if it doesn't happen that doesn't mean the program is a mess like people like you want to imply.

You are comparing a team that has the most super bowl wins to a team that has never been to a final four?? Yikes... Hey someone get Fredact another drink, he's still standing..

Do you realize just how much easier it is to win a Super Bowl than it is to even get to a FF.....
