Nike Sibande finally gets on the court and promptly & smoothly drains a 3. Ithiel Horton goes on to have his best game as a Panther. Coincidence? I think not. Footsteps baby, he heard them and reacted appropriately.

Hey I'm totally fine with getting your crap together just in time for ACC play. I'll admit I was down on him (how could you not be) and rooting for Nike to come in and be the savior to our SG position.

Given he's a rs soph (plus Covid free year) while Nike is a Senior (plus Covid year) I'm thrilled he seems to be figuring things out.

Horton's play is extremely tied to his mental state.
Nike obviously needs some more real game time.
But it's nice to see, for the 1st time in 3 years I think I'm seeing signs of an actual team.

You could be correct, but I‘ll lean more to the thought that Horton just had a night when his shot was falling. Had zero to do with Nike finally getting on the court.

Horton is really holding his follow through after snapping his wrist after letting the ball leave his hands the last few games compared to the earlier games. That is his key on makes and misses.

More and more every game - I'm seeing a lot of signs team play will be strong towards the end of the season.

It's a really pretty stroke when he's doing that. In fact, I just love the mid-range jumpers he's taking off motion. Such a sweet gliding release.

Once the ball leaves his hand there is literally nothing at all that he does that affects whether the ball goes in the basket or not.

True. But, getting the part before it leaves your hand correct requires ending with a proper follow through which includes post release motion of the hands, wrists and arms. If you don’t have that follow through it means you aren’t doing the pre-release of the ball part correctly. It is analogous to a pitcher in baseball always having a follow through after releasing the pitch that is a consistent part of the motion of throwing.

Its just good to have both, HCJC has the option to use whoever is most effective any given night. They are different players, Horton pretty much a limited athlete who is a jump shot heavy 2G and Nike a much more athletic kid who can hit the three but also can attack the basket and score in other ways.
