I fully expect him to be the backup RB but the dude is a freak talent. In his letter to GM's, he wrote about playing DE if needed and while I'm sure he would do it if asked, that was probably more to show them how selfless he is.

But.....if you look at Conner's skill-set, is he not the perfect mold to a pass-rushing LB in the 3-4? Probably not but thought I'd throw it out there.

you throw a lot of nonsense out there.......

I won't speak for James Conner, but if I was in the situation of making that kind of money, I'd sell beer in the stands at halftime if they asked me to. ;)

Yeah. Like, Conner's story is great. The Players' Tribune article was great. But let's not act like it was some selfless "for the good of the team" that he volunteered to play DE. He wanted to make as much money as possible and get drafted as highly as possible.

How do you know his intentions were not to help the team when he volunteered to play DE? He did that when we were light on DE's.

Just curious, what kind of contract ($$) do players typically get where James was drafted?

No offense man but do you know how difficult it is to be a stud at one position let alone two? High school sure, college sometimes, NFL no

I heard something about Colbert saying he's excited to see him cover kickoffs.

He's a rb. Never had the height/size to be an NFL DE, and doesn't have the movement in space to be an olb.

Steelers have a big need for a reliable back up rb, and I am guessing will use him in a lot of other ways, offensively, too. FB, back, etc.

While I find SMF's post to be crazy, I do not agree with your thoughts on his ability to be an OLB. He is a RB and his chance of a nice NFL career is at that position. But I believe that had he stayed on defense at Pitt, he'd have a decent chance of being an OLB in the NFL.

yep, Barry Bonds did some pitching in high school. It always baffled me that the Giants never used him occasionally out of the bullpen...

I do not but the idea is somewhat irrelevant in that the Steelers much like the rest of the NFL draft the 75 or 80 people on the planet that are the best at that position. There are probably 250,000 people on the planet that have the movement in space you speak of that are not NFL caliber defensive players...
