Our two centers combined for a
grand total of two rebounds. Brown
and Coulibaly each had one defensive
rebound. That's awful! Yet despite
that we outrebounded VT 33-31.
Go figure....LOL

Part of Champagnie's great rebounding numbers are because our 5's are very poor rebounders so he isnt competiting with them also on the glass.

False statistic is total rebounds. Pitt won rebounding because VA tech missed 10 more shots that Pitt did, but Pitt won rebounds by only 2. VA Tech had 5 more offensive rebounds than Pitt.

Correct answer.

No matter how anyone tries to slice and
dice it, when your two bigs combine
for two rebounds, it's a problem. Yes,
they're boxing out, but that's what
they're supposed to do. It's not an
excuse for not rebounding over the
course of a 40 minute game. Yes,
Champagnie does a great job on the
boards as does Toney, but again,
that is not an excuse for what our
two bigs didn't do on the boards
last night. Other than that, Coulibaly
played well.

They did seem to put some defensive pressure on VT's inside game. This isn't the my first take from this game. It's common knowledge Pitt isn't great down low.

I would say more accurately -
Because akc boxes out - which allows him access

I agree. I don't go back and rewatch games, but there was a couple times last night I noticed him doing a nice job of boxing out and a teammate grabbing the rebound. He's certainly not going to get many rebounds out of his area, though.

You have to look at rebounds as two separate things. Compare your offensive rebounds to your opponents defensive rebounds, and your defensive rebounds to their offensive rebounds.

Last night on 38 Virginia Tech misses Pitt had 28 rebounds and Virginia Tech got 10. That is a 26% offensive rebounding percentage for Virginia Tech, and that's a little below average, so we did OK there. On 26 Pitt misses Virginia Tech got 21 rebounds and Pitt got 5. That's a 19% offensive rebounding percentage, and that is not very good at all. If you did that all season your offensive rebounding percentage would be close to the bottom 10 in the country.

You can't look at one stat and make a conclusion on the game. That Aluma took our Cs out of under the basket due to his crazy ability to shoot outside.

Have we EVER had a 6'9 or taller guy who s=could shoot 3s with a high %?

The key is to make in game adjustments to score more than the opponent.....in this game we did!
