First off, congrats on a great win. Not an easy place to win and especially to dominate like you did.

I am curious (i didn't get to see this game ) how people that were at both games, felt Iowa and VT compared .. atmosphere, facilities, fan base etc.

Just curious. Even how it seemed on TV if you weren't there. As I said I didn't see the VT game so would love to hear your thoughts

I wasn't there, but with the VA governor declaring a state of emergency and the storms keeping the crowd size down, I'm sure it probably wasn't a "normal Lane Stadium game atmosphere".

^^This^^. Day game, torrential rain, state of emergency vs. night game, great weather. Diametrically opposite.

Just watching on TV both games, Kinnick Stadium was rocking, Lane Stadium looked like a morgue. Yes, there were weather conditions and such, but it looked nearly empty.

That was not a typical Lane Stadium game. Chalk it up to the weather. Also, I think its a little unfair to compare a noon game after a letdown loss to an early season night game.

Agree with all your points, but if that was the crowd at a Pitt game and there was a tornado blowing through the city and the game was against Slippery Rock, people would still say Pitt has the worst fans. Yes, Va Tech has much better crowds at night and weather was a huge factor, but the facts are there were very few fans at the game Saturday.

I was planning on going, as I live in Virginia. However, driving 5 hours in that crap plus sitting out in it for 3 more was just too much for me. And forcasts up until Friday pretty much called for the apocalypse here. Its not a surprise many people stayed home.

I was at both games, and as indicated in the thread, not really fair to compare beautiful weather versus total rain/crap. As far as the stadiums go, I'd give the clear nod to Iowa, even though the stadium has some serious ingress/egress issues. VaTech fans are very friendly, know football and are about as nice a group as any in the ACC--but I'd still give the nod to Iowa [especially if you like blondes]. Despite a ton of no-shows, it was pretty loud at Lane--but having attended every game Pitt has ever played at Lane, I'd still give the nod to Iowa. Both schools are kind of remote and make travel somewhat difficult--but Iowa is just a wee bit better on this score. Iowa City far more fun than Blacksburg. Iowa also provided better visitor tickets than VaTech. And for those that go to the stadium to eat, clear nod to VaTech with their Turkey legs and king-sized corn dogs and much shorter lines. Hail to Pitt!

Yes, I've never had a problem with a Va Tech "fan". My eye doctor is a Va Tech fan and it's nothing more than friendly talk about our teams. I did have a problem with a Tech band member before.
I was in 7th grade during the '03 season and our middle school football team went to the Va Tech College Gameday game. We sat right next to the Va Tech band in the open endzone. Well, one of their band members was not too happy I was cheering for Pitt and felt the need to taunt me.
Other than that though, the alumni seem like very nice people.

thanks for the review. Did you get one of the "Big Ass Turkey Legs" on Melrose Avenue just outside of Kinnick?

Not really a dark meat kind of guy. I just went with a Brat. Unfortunately neither stadium sells alcohol...so on that count, I'd give the nod to Akron, even though they ran out of anything good by the time the 3rd quarter rolled around:) Hail to Pitt!
