Just speaking hypothetical, just to show the cult how simple all of this could have been avoided. Would you as a Pitt fan be making an issue about the scandal/them honoring Joe on the 17th if any of these happened instead of what Joe and the PSU administration actually did.
1) They call the cops and let the legal system handle it in 2002?
2) They truly separate themselves from Jerry in 1998 after the 1st trail. Don't let him on campus. Don't talk to him. Don't go to second mile events. Never let him on campus. That way when he did get caught in a location not on PSU's campus they could have explained how they distanced themselves and never associated with him and how tragic it is that he would do something like that.
They do 1 of those 2 easy things, there is no scandal, there is no backlash against Joe or PSU. All the talk about Joe knowing since 1976 doesn't come out. They would still be a cult but no one would think anything of it, as they would consider them harmless. Most people would think that PSU did stand for success with honor, if they did 1 of the 2. Hell I feel most people would have forgiven them if they didn't report it in 2002 but instead took street justice on Jerry, where he wouldn't be capable of doing it again.
Instead the Joe and the administration did (or didn't do) what they did and the cult never apologizes and feels they are the victims and they keep bringing it up. People see how harmful they are to society and they are reaping what they sow.
