But this is the 2nd similar tweet of the week and both had this pen/signature emoji. 🤔

"Players can also now return to school after going undrafted without losing eligibility, but only if they participated in the NBA combine"

A
gent rule change from 2018. You can sign any NBPA approved agent and return to school if you do the combine and are not drafted. Its becoming more common (as is going right to G league then being drafted from there.)

In fact 2 of the top 4 draft picks this year may be G league players. That is more competitive than usual due to the pandemic which is why I think 2022 may be a better draft class for Justin. But I'm also selfish here.

No, he can hire an agent and return to Pitt if undrafted. It's a good rule change the NCAA put in that might benefit us a lot here.

Yes, I think this will be the route he takes. He'll test the waters and realize he is not yet a first round pick and return to (hopefully) Pitt. That is unless he's ok with a G-league/fringe NBA career (more likely time in Europe) for a while. I look at a guy like Iggy Brazdeikis (drafted 47th and shuttling between G-league and the end of the Knicks bench) as what his career will look like if he leaves now.

I’ve always believed that any college athlete who can get paid should do so and JC should explore his options . He’d be a fool not to , but I’d be surprised if he isn’t back .

I agree. The purpose of college is to prepare you for a career. If you're ready to start that career, there's no reason to wait.

That's also why I believe colleges should give degrees in basketball and football. If that's your career aspiration, why bother pretending to get a degree in Communications or Criminal Justice.

I have a feeling he will get drafted somewhere but may not be as high as he hopes.

Yeah that is a bad scenario...don't get Justin back and by going late 2nd round and he gets a two way G league contract where he doesn't get legit NBA playing time either.

Here is an article explaining it -- but summary he can sign with an agent and return to school as long as they terminate the agent prior to returning to school..

Why is making $435K on a 2 way deal a bad choice? He would be coming back to play on a really bad team....for free. Lets say he doesn't even play an NBA game next season, he still makes $435K and can develop in the G league as good or better than he could at Pitt.

Comes down to betting on yourself and what you think your ceiling is. Guys can get buried in the G League. But the money is decent (for at least a few years).

He’s a 6’6” sf/pf
It’s not like his stock is going up with more college

he’d Brandon Ingram with a worse jumper, ball handing, and defense .
The odds of him turning into a shooting guard in college training part time to improve his stock are not great

Haha. No worries! Just getting used to my younger cousins in their late teens and early twenties pretty much calling me an old head and I'm in my mid thirties. I have to lookup half the acronyms they pass along via text to me. Haha.

Holy hell. I'm in my early 40s and am just barely a Gen Xer and almost a millennial. I had no idea.

According to Wiki...

"Millennials, also known as Generation Y (or simply Gen Y), are the demographic cohort following Generation X and preceding Generation Z. Researchers and popular media use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years, with 1981 to 1996 being a widely accepted defining range for the generation. Most millennials are the children of baby boomers and early Gen Xers; millennials are often the parents of Generation Alpha."

I heard today's elementary kids are now being called Generation C for Covid as it is a defining world event that will impact most of their lives for a long time

That's a drag. Gen A or Alpha sounds so much cooler. I ain't calling them Gen C.

That's a good salary, I just meant its a worse outcome than him becoming a regular NBA player giving Pitt exposure on national TV or returning to help us win games. Like being the next Tyler Bey is no shame, just doesn't really help Pitt much.
