Heather is trying to build a $300 million volleyball Taj Mahal for what is already like the best program in the nation. They dont effing need it. Build a $250 million volleyball Taj Mahal and use the other $50 million to correct your horrendous mistake and hire a GUARANTEE!!!! No mid-major lottery tickets, no assistant coaches. Go pay someone $6 million per year and get someone like Nate Oats, Bruce Pearl, Will Wade, Buzz Williams, etc. Everyone will laugh and say they won't come here. For $6 million per year, they will walk here for the job. Heather cannot dick around with a lottery ticket. Barnes wrecked the program ane miraculously she made it worse so she has to take major steps to fix it. If we hire a mid-major lottery ticket, I am going to barf.

That Ben Howland guy turned out to be a gem and then Dixon followed that up very nicely.

Step back into reality for a minute. Pitt needs to hire a good, young, intelligent, hardworking head coach that can recruit and HAS to win to advance his career.

Why do you think Heather can get lucky on some young mid-major coach? We are the worst P6 program in the country. What gives you any confidence that this young mid-major coach will be any better at coaching than his ACC peers and will be able to outsmart all the other ACC coaches by finding diamonds in the rough since we arent getting any Top 150s in awhile? Do you know how hard that is? Just about impossible. Hiring the next Howland??? Yea, that isnt happening.

Why not? The ACC is down. Guys like Larranaga and Pastner have done well.

Overpaying for someone to get here and be lazy is what got us in this mess. I want someone who wants to use us as a stepping stone to get Kentucky when Cal leaves.

Man you bake my cookies. You finally had me converted to the S Miller fan club last night and now, when it really looks like Cappie is toast, no mention of S. Miller! What gives??

I was hoping Capel would use us as a stepping stone for Duke. I said several times that I would be thrilled if he got the Duke job because that would have meant he won big here.

You do make a good point about paying someone so much that they can be lazy and I do think that was part of it for Capel but guys like Pearl, Wade, etc, those guys are always going to get players one way or the other.

Well, I dont think Pitt will pay enough to get a big-time coach. They can get Miller or Pitino for market rate so they are much more realistic.

I agree they are going to have to pay a steep price. Just as importantly, we are going to need top assistants to recruit again. The top assistant in the country makes something like 800K. We need a few ace recruiters tied into the northeast region. And we need to pay them well north of 500K each to put new life in the program.

Btw you are a huge Tony Bennett fan I believe. Why have you not mentioned Richie Mckay? He spent 6 years as the associate head coach to Bennett. 56 years old. Three straight regular season titles and 3 straight tournament titles in a row for Liberty after breaking away from Bennett. His Liberty team is the heavy favorite again this year for a 4th straight regular season and conference title. He's also winning over 27 games per year in this stretch. He's learned how to Coach under Bennett.

I refuse all assistants and mid-major coaches. This program needs a guarantee.

Antigua makes 1 mill at Kentucky. That’s not the norm and neither is 800k. There’s like 15 assistants in the country making 500k or more. Our assistant pool is not a problem at all. It was the selection of assistants.

Rick Pitino is good friend’s with Ralph Willard and wasn’t happy with how he was treated here. It isn’t happening and shouldn’t happen.

Rick Pitino took the Iona job. He wants back in the big-time. He'd take the Pitt job probably for free. How Willard was treated by a different Pitt administration 20 years ago is meaningless.

We will have to overpay because of our situation to get out of the current situation, the coach and to get quality assistants. Im talking about winning again, not being a fringe bubble team. Money talks.

He has proven all that he needs to prove. He doesn’t need Pitt or any other job.

Larranaga made a Final Four and was a sure thing. Pastner was not a mid-major coach.
Larranaga made a Final Four, but only made 5 NCAA tourneys in 14 years at George Mason. He didn’t get hired at Miami until 5 years after the Final Four, and only made the NCAA 2 out of those last 5 years. He was also 61 years old when he got hired. He was far from a sure thing and many criticized the hire.

What do you mean Pastner wasn’t a mid- major coach? Yes, he was.

He coached Memphis. What are you talking about?

And Memphis isn’t in a P5 conference. They were in Conference USA and the AAC, both mid-major conferences.

He coached in the American Athletic Conference and followed John Calipari who had them in the NC game. I am assuming that you felt that fellow AAC members UConn and Cincy were also mid-majors?

Heather maybe has a little women's sports bias?

Now that I would be down for. SMF Garden. We'd be hosting Final Fours and NBA All-Star Games.

On opening night, for their first event, they can replay the second half of the Pitt - Gonzaga game from 2015. The winner gets Chick-Fil-A.

I was in Chik Fil A for 20 minutes tonight driving home from the soccer loss. This has been the worst week so far. Totally expect the annual UNC football loss tomorrow.

It’s a mid-major conference, which is why most coaches go FROM that conference TO bigger conferences. Calipari went to the SEC, Pastner to the ACC, Cronin to the PAC 12. Most AAC coaches who previously coached in a P5 Conference typically were let go from the P5 school.

Just seems obvious that you hire a head coach who can actually, you know, COACH. Let assistants recruit. We hired a recruiter in Capel but recruits don't want to play for a guy who can't coach.

It was obvious during Howland's first year he had the same kids playing 100% better.

Pitt looked sloppy last night. You could see they had athleticism, but did very little with it. Forget the score. Forget that he's had some bad luck. It's about how they play.
