I don't want to hear 1 single person mention money

WHAT?!?!?! Alabama LOST?? How can that be?

The best player in the nation hasn't played in 6 weeks. Also, their leading scorer didn't play. They have been crippled by injuries this year and still got the 1 seed in the ACCT. When healthy they are the best team in the nation but they aren't healthy and thus won't win the Natty or even make the College Cup.

Heather is trying to build a $300 million volleyball Taj Mahal for what is already like the best program in the nation. They dont effing need it. Build a $250 million volleyball Taj Mahal and use the other $50 million to correct your horrendous mistake and hire a GUARANTEE!!!! No mid-major lottery tickets, no assistant coaches. Go pay someone $6 million per year and get someone like Nate Oats, Bruce Pearl, Will Wade, Buzz Williams, etc. Everyone will laugh and say they won't come here. For $6 million per year, they will walk here for the job. Heather cannot dick around with a lottery ticket. Barnes wrecked the program ane miraculously she made it worse so she has to take major steps to fix it. If we hire a mid-major lottery ticket, I am going to barf.

Capital expenditure vs. operational expenditure

Frivolous capital expenditure vs vitally important operational expenditure.

Its like putting in a new inground pool instead of installing an HVAC system because yours is broken.

I don't disagree that you'll likely get better return on money spent in men's basketball versus volleyball. I'm just pointing out that businesses avoid operational expenditures all the time because of finance, tax, and accounting considerations.

They can finance a capital expenditure over decades, taking advantage of low interest rates (and even depreciate it), but when you pay a coach $50m that has to go on the books as a loss immediately. That's a tough pill to swallow for any school, especially one that just fired its men's hoops coach 4 years ago.

Wait wait. How can @Sean Miller Fan say we shouldn’t hire a mid major lottery ticket only to champion a “proven coach” like Will Wade? Wade was a mid major coach and his best year his team only made the Sweet 16 and he wasn’t even the coach at the time because he was suspended.

Rick Pitino took the Iona job. He wants back in the big-time. He'd take the Pitt job probably for free. How Willard was treated by a different Pitt administration 20 years ago is meaningless.
I couldn’t agree more. Anyone hear of HC Calipari who wanted to come to PITT…
Tired of hearing of other schools hiring these “bad” people and winning big with them. NCAA is a joke and continue to slap hands. What are we afraid of?

More reasons your comparison was atrocious. When Bama suffers injuries the next man steps up and they keep winning.

They lost the best player in the nation, their leading scorer, played a 1 seed, and still dominated play. It is difficult to beat a team as good as ND without Petkovic and Almeida. You are stupid FWIW.

More excuses from the goat. Just admit you made a terrible comparison.

It was a fantastic comparison. Pitt soccer is the best team in the country when they are healthy. Alabama and any other team out there lose games when they are decimated by injuries. If anything, what they did this season despite all the injuries, winning the best conference proves me right. Another W for the great one.

The sad part is you believe this.

But hey, at least you've managed to divert the comparison from calling Will Wade a proven winner who wasn't a mid major lottery pick!

What are you talking about?

1. Will Wade came from VCU, one of the top 25ish programs in the country from a respectable 3-4 bid league. He didnt come from a mid-major.

2. Of course, a small percentage of mid-major lottery tickets work out, maybe 10%-25%. Pitt could hit on a lottery ticket. But there chances are slim.

There's part of your problem. When the fact don't suit you you just pretend that words mean things that they do not mean.

The notion that VCU isn't a mid-major is batshit crazy even by your standards.

It's easy to be the Goat when words don't mean anything and you don't need to be consistent with, well, anything.

If every time you were wrong about something you just declared victory and hoped that no one remembered what you actually said then you could be a goat too.

They play in the A10 which isnt a mid-major league. Its a top 6-8 league, roughly better than the Pac 12. They are a top program.

The A10 has literally never been ranked higher than the PAC12 in the end of season Pomeroy rankings, and in most years they are not even close.

But once again, the facts don't support what you want to say, so ignore the facts and hope that everyone else does too.

Joe, I'd appreciate your answers to these questions:

1. Is VCU a mid-major? Why or why not?

2. Is Memphis, Cincinnati, and Houston of the very similar to A10, AAC mid-majors? Why or why not?

3. Is Washington State basketball a mid-major? Why or why not?

SMF, I'd appreciated your answer to these questions.

1. Why do you ask questions that you already know the answers to?

2. Why is it so important to you to pretend that things are other than they actually are so you can be "right" on a message board.

3. Even you know that it's not teams that are major or mid-major, it's conferences, right?

Are Memphis and Cincinnati mid-majors? You didn't answer.

Memphis and Cincinnati play in mid-major leagues. I didn't answer because while you frequently present yourself as otherwise, you are smart enough to know that. You know that there are six majors in basketball, and that the AAC and the A10 are not in that group and are generally not even really all that close to that group. You also know that just because a school is in a mid-major league that doesn't mean that they can't have a good program or even just a good team or two, Gonzaga being the most prominent example of that.

So, when you are smart enough and pay enough attention to this stuff to know all that, why is it that you frequently insist on pretending that things are as you know they are not? What do you get out of pretending that the A10 is as good or better a league than the PAC12? What do you get out of pretending that you don't understand that Cincinnati can be a good program but that the league that Cincinnati plays in isn't as good as one of the top six leagues?
