I miss Harv…

I should also add that I can't believe any message board could possibly have been any better than it was here from 2001 to 2009. Great "virtual" friendships and interactions, and even when we teased each other there was underlying respect. Beyond that, there was always truly thoughtful dialogue. And at the center of it always was Harve, who used to love this board during those days saying it was like a "think tank." RIP my friend.
I hate to be one of those “back in my days, things were better” posters, but you are 100% correct. I don’t post much about BB, and always admit my lack of expertise about the sport’s nuances, but I really enjoyed lurking and reading the threads back in those days. It certainly helped that the team was really good through most of that period, but the posting was excellent.

I don’t remember if he posted much here or was only active on the “private” board that existed during some of that period, but I would add B_Man to the list of excellent posters for his knowledge of who we were seriously recruiting and their potential. I still remember how happy he (and recruitsreadtheseboards) were that Dixon lost out on a red headed center from NJ and had to “settle” for DeJuan Blair, and how accurate his assessment of Sam Young’s potential was.

B_Man was great with regard to his hoop knowledge.

With all completely due and deserved respect, I will take issue with the phrase “add B_Man to the list of excellent posters.” Instead, allow me to suggest that we state that @B_Man was at the TOP of the list of excellent posters.

And in addition to being the most knowledgeable, B_man always had the decency to remain above the fray, whereas folks such as Harve and myself would at times dive in. Over the last few years, I’ve made more of an effort to follow his lead.

Otherwise, thank you for the gentle shove to reach out to an old friend! I was just thinking about doing this anyway.

I love and live in the fray :)

Really??

I don’t think anyone here on the Lair would have suspected such.
Hey like and enjoy the games ,,the stats and strategy discussions and have good enough working knowledge of both -
But nobody comes to me for a PhD level discussion of the game/teams

i stir the crap , add snark, and happily am content to have an opinion contrary to conventional wisdom .
Conventional wisdom is usually wrong and too easy :)

I appreciated Harve (and met him and Jeff when I was back at the Pete in 2011) and became friends with California Panther through the Lair. Also, became good friends with PITTpitt here in Portland (though he’s now living in Virginia).

Though, I’ve never met most of you, I appreciate your knowledge (ok, sometimes it’s knowledge and sometimes it’s a wild guess at the facts), insight, but mostly your belief in PITT!

As Carly Simon would say, “these are the good old days!”

Hail to PITT!

I'll echo other's comments; Harve was a fine and gentle man. He had his opinions for sure, but he was a huge supporter of Pitt the University and Pitt sports, both BB and FB. I was fortunate to have met him in person on more than one occasion. Thanks for reminding us all to remember him as well as other Pitt Rivals Board members who've sadly passed away ...

I miss Buffet Parrothead. Effing Covid.

Harve was a great Pitt fan. We didn't see eye to eye but we need more fans like him.

I was just thinking about him yesterday, wondering what happened to him. I mostly "lurk", but appreciate many of the same posters you all have mentioned.
