I thought Cole Mathews

He is give him some time he has beaten Courtney before and I am guessing he will again. That guy is tough, he is losing matches late which is concerning but he is probably at this moment right around the 15-20th best guy in the nation and will only go up from here

Is Badgett the best 157# on the roster? Is there anyone in the pipeline to replace him?

He is good, but he also may be a far better freestyle wrestler than folk style

My, again the physical maturity is showing up again. Pitt just doesn't look as physically strong as Virginia. Good match through 5.

Badgett is talented but should be red shirting ideally guys like badgett and matthews have to sit the bench for a couple years when we get our depth to a good position

Matthews is ok he will be a solid top 20 type guy for his career but he is having the same issue as everyone else on the team. They are not developing all that well as I would have hoped under coach Gavin

I'm not sure having Harvey and Nino move up weight classes is working out....

This is going to be a bad L Virginia isn't very good honestly

The last two matches, Harvey has wrestled with less heart than I have ever seen from him. Don’t know if he is injured or has just bumped up to a weight he can’t handle.

Nice Nino! Nice to see the other wrestler run out of gas for a change.

Harvey did look better down at 174 but Nino just came through and beat #3 Aiello. I think he just needs to figure out how to finish faster at this weight class and the sky will be the limit

He just needs to add another attack you don't want to be stuck underneath those big guys to often

The “needed to be redshirted” excuse IMO is a cop-out.

If Mathews had been redshirted last year and was wrestling as a redshirt freshman this year, would he be a better wrestler now? Would he have more stamina? Would he be stronger? Would he have more than one offensive move?

I think the answer to all of those questions is no. Maybe you can excuse his losses last year because he was not ready, but that is no excuse for his wrestling this year. McGill redshirted last year and what did it gain him? He got overpowered and manhandled by Bullard last week and he got overpowered today.

So you're saying that the S&C program is questionable? If so, I wholeheartedly agree.

Terrible loss. What a day for this program. Are we still making progress?

I’m just saying from my own personal experience those two years made a huge difference for me. Some guys are ready out the gate but other guys need development and heck other guys even get worse!

Not really. What guy has improved in the last 3 years?

Mickey - No still the same wrestler with great defense and no offense

Matthews - No exact same wrestler

Wentzel - see mickeys comment

Harvey - see Mathews comment

Nino - No a common theme but he is the still the same wrestler who hasn't added to his arsenal in 3 years

Not going to comment on freshman or Slinger but it's pretty clear guys havent developed much.

Well, we are on our way to a 5th place finish in the 6 team ACC with our only win being over a Duke program which gives no scholarships.

Is this where people expected to be in year 4 under Gavin?

to say the least.
Sounds like maybe we escaped a headache even though he is super talented. Still a bummer though we really need some young top end talent to keep up/catch VT and NC State

Wentzel's performance has picked up year over year, but I think it's more the injury spurring maturity than the staff wrenching more out of his talent.

Otherwise... can't argue. I don't see a single All-American in this lineup, largely because none of our ranked guys have taken the necessary strides to get there.

Nino's fearless & I'm happy for his win today, but he hasn't proven he can clear a ride or - maybe more importantly - ride an opponent. Micky refuses to attack - frequently leaving bonus points on the table against inferior competition. Jake - always felt he had the 'it' factor - but he's got Mekhi Lewis and Kennedy Monday coming up and going 0-2 there could do damage mentally, to say nothing of positioning for nationals.

Cole - this offseason is do or die for him. Tank needs a boost and gotta stop being one note with the headlock & add to his repertoire.
