If Hill leaves

Harley lone remaining original coach on d
I also think Hill is going to leave. Why? Because Bates has already mentioned that he may coach the safeties. I don't think he would be saying that if he thought Hill was going to stay at Pitt.

This was easy to see once we hired Collins. Hill and Collins cover the same recruiting areas.
But this is why the Archie Collins hire wasn't as impressive. We weren't actually hiring him as the 10th coach. We were hiring him to replace our likely most valuable position coach. Then we still need a 10th coach.

Let me guess - you would only be satisfied if we stole the DB coach from a Top 20 Program.

Not at all, but he was one of our best recruiters and we need to get a better recruiting staff. Even if we say it is an even swap of Hill for Collins, that still means we need a big hire as the 10th coach and a GA or small school option will not be good enough for us to get better. You (with Stache and the usual suspects) tried the same argument when he was hired as the 10th coach and as the 10th coach it would have been a solid hire with potential. Of course, anyone with any insight, at all, could see it was likely he was going to be replacing Hill and we would be hiring someone else to actually be the 10th assistant. Now we HAVE to land a legitimate 10th assistant, who has proven to be a big time recruiter in order for this staff shuffle to look like an upgrade.

Who did Hill land from Michigan? The DB’s were horrendous the previous year. A lot of people wanted to get rid of him.

He landed Hamlin and Hill, who are two of the best recruits we have signed under HCPN. Practically any time spent recruiting in the state of Michigan is an absolute waste. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Is your argument that Collins will be a better recruiter and that will mainly be proven by him landing top P5 targets out of the state of Michigan?

The DBs have been bad under HCPN and Hill, I agree. I think much of that has been talent and scheme. Last year many thought our DB play got much better. I think it got better, but more importantly our scheme was more flexible after we got absolutely torched by OSU, once again. I have no idea who got HCPN to give in and adapt. Maybe it was Hill. Maybe it wasn't. Hopefully it continues this year with Bates, Collins, etc. or we are going to get blown out by some opponents.

I will look at this as a positive for Pitt and Narduzzi. You want your assistants to become coaches that are coveted. It means you're identifying talented coaches and makes the HC a person others want to work for.

Hill had very little experience before Narduzzi hired him. Now he's in the NFL. Apparently there are folks who value him more than some on this board did.

It just shows how good of a CEO HCPN is. Surround yourself with those who can get the job done. Clearly if one of our coaches is wanted by the NFL, HCPN is hiring the best of the best in CFB. Not only do we have another position open, but I would not be surprised if he gets yet another coach who is a top recruiter in the game just like he did last week.

He wasn’t the primary recruiter for those guys. Narduzzi is the main reason why Hamlin chose Pitt.

I'll still guess defense or spec teams and back to it being a grad asst or something promoted up.

Some find a problem with everything some have no problem with anything, then they dig in a argue for pages.....

Maybe both are right to a degree.

Nice of him to wait until after signing day.
Now we know why he turned down the Michigan State job to "stay" at Pitt.

Not only does he dodge the mess as MSU, he parlays into an NFL job? Ask this guy what numbers he is playing for the powerball.

So true, and not only on message boards but really in the total local area.
The breadth of the disdain locally is really remarkable. Anything positive Pitt stirs up responses everywhere and not just the usual stater ding dongs.
