None of the Above - I vote Army or Navy.

I'd like to add Ohio State as a choice.

Understanding it couldn't be every year. But would be awesome to rotate them with WV and ND.

Even if not sickened by PS as I am, their inclusion here is folly in any case, because now that they're "back" (from the "witch hunt"), they won't be scheduling us any longer. We were mean to them, after all.

Is it a rivalry or not?
I scan the Lair and BWI often, and read from various posters on both boards their reasons for believing Pitt-PSU is or is not a football rivalry. It is almost as comical at the far left vs. the far right in politics, to the point where certain folks (on both sides) will claim "they aren't a rival for us, but they need us to be a rival for them."
I've been watching college football for 50+ years. I clearly remember when PSU-Pitt was a huge rivalry. I went to a few of those games at both places. With first half knowledge of what that rivalry was back in the day, I'm comfortable saying that rivalry died years ago and only memories of it still exist.
And I believe this poll -- as early as it is while I type this -- helps prove that points. PSU is currently dead last in the vote count and multiple posters have asked for additional choices beyond the original three.
Pitt-PSU was an entertaining football game last fall, but the world wasn't holding its collective breath awaiting the outcome. Chances are good some or all of the remaining three games will also be entertaining. But as a Pennsylvania college football fan, I couldn't car less if PSU and Pitt schedule beyond the current series. My preference would be for both schools to schedule home-and-home series with national opponents. I would love to see teams such as Oregon, UCLA, Arizona State, Texas, LSU, Florida make trips to the two Pennsylvania venues.

Why are old (I am assuming here, but imagine I am right) people so obsessed with playing the academies? No one cares (especially kids we are recruiting) if we are playing Navy or Army. No one. If we lose? We are a joke.

It isn't the 1940s anymore.
it's got to be a generation thing. this was a rivalry of all rivalries, before the Korean conflict. I'd rather keep our annual labor day scrimmage against ysu/Delaware/new Hampshire than schedule a home and home with army.

1) Beautiful atmosphere in the Fall
2) Close to Pitt Alumni
3) I prefer classy fans to trash

ND

None of the other two due to their low IQ classless fans. If I was a college football God I'd send Lighting Bolts + Thunder+ Flooding Rains their way. If they disappeared so what!

But another BIG10 team like Mich St, or Ohio St would be great.

And Navy!

ND with not even a close second. Playing and beating ND gets attention as ND is a national team. WVU and PSU are more regional teams, as you can tell Pitt received actually no attention nationally when beating Penn State this past year. Also the fan atmosphere was so much better for ND, with the best being that 2009 game. Best atmosphere for a game at Heinz Field potentially even over most Steelers games (and Im a season ticket holder for them as well).

Not to derail the thread, but I would love a series with Maryland - great for the alum (selfishly including myself) in Philly, Lancaster/Harrisburg, DC and Bmore.

yeah, that would be cool. was always jealous of the eers, they always had a series with them, dating back to early 90's if I recall. Nice roadtrip, cool if you want to come home or if not, check out nw DC for a night.

WVU. I don't care if its nasty, I want a rival that knows what a rivalry is and embraces it wholeheartedly.
WVU is a close #2. only reason I like ND over the eers is it's a better road trip. South bend as a town is painfully boring but walking into ND stadium is pretty cool.. Plus, right or wrong, factual or perception wise, beating ND holds more acclaim.

All 3 offer unique benefits to me. I like the ND series and have really enjoyed playing them over the years. South Bend in the fall for a football game is terrific.

yikes, no thanks although I would love an away night game at lsu.. that would be sweet. wvu did a home and home with Colorado about 10 years ago, that would be cool. avg program, cool road trip..

I voted Penn State, because to me, that is still rivalry #1, it was a rush to play them again, there is real hate and competition there.

As for Navy, I'd love to play Navy every year too, just because it's a 45 minute drive from my house and an absolute great venue for college football, love going there.

To me, it's not embarrassing to lose to Navy, because for the last decade at least, they have been a FAR SUPERIOR football program to Pitt.

That was a huge hope with an ACC move. Then they left and we ended up with "rival" Louisville.

Me too, Living in Baltimore, I was so excited that we joined the ACC, I couldn't wait to go see them play football AT MARYLAND, then WTF! MD moves to the B1G the very next year!

And it's strange how Maryland plays WVU every year in OOC games. We play them a lot in basketball, but I don't remember the last time we ever played MD in football.

Playing MD does nothing for me.

You don't live a half hour from their campus. THAT ALONE is a reason I'd like them to play someone- I wish we'd play AT TOWSON, I love when Pitt is AT NAVY, just because I can wake up, get in my car, be there in less than an hour, JUST BECAUSE OF THAT.

I'm shocked it's not WVU...our oldest and most intense rival
no they are not.... If WVU plays Penn State, who are you rooting for in that game?

the answer to that question always solves the "who is our greatest rival" issue.

Good point and fair enough
