If you could magically go back to March 2018

I’m not saying we’d be in the title game if Hurley was here but it’s silly to act like a top 10 coach wouldn’t get us to our ceiling as a program. Jamie Dixon elevated us to our ceiling with limited resources and he’s a top 25-30ish coach.

Lyke, her support and the resources would’ve been an elite combo with Hurley. Hopefully it will be with as Capel moving forward as well.

Do people really think we are saying he would have had Pitt in the title game? He won at Wagner (and beat Jamie), won at Rhody, and will win a NC at UConn. He is obviously an elite coach so he would have won here and quickly. NC? No.

Hurley coached at Rhode Island before Uconn. He likes that area of the country, and the move from one school to the other was less than 60 miles.

He's literally close enough that he wouldn't even have to sell his house if he didn't choose. Hurley was never going anywhere else but UConn. It was a no brainer. I don't think Pitt was ever really in the ball game.

Quit whining, Pitt has Capel, not Hurley and not Dixon, some of you still crying over Dixon, capel has recruited much better players in his life over Hurley and Dixon combine, oh that right he was at duke when he did that, and, Pitt is Pitt no matter who’s coaching them, I hope that changes too. H2P

The fact that ANY on here have the audacity to claim Hurley wouldn't have been a significant upgrade over Jeff Capel need to quit sniffin the glue. Jeff Capel had a surprisingly nice season. And the only reason he had it was because Hugley decided to eat his way off the team after his injury. Pitt was all set even though they got all these new portal players to continue to run their boring plodding offense through Hugley. It wasn't until Hugley got benched for good and left that Pitt figured out there was a much better approach. It was a miracle and yes I'm calling it that, that Pitt had the season they did. They hit the jackpot on a bunch of players in the portal.

In any event, Hurley by now would have recruited a lot better, gotten so much more out his kids than Capel has(except for this past season) and would have had Pitt in multiple NCAA Tournaments with a most likely Sweet 16 appearance and possibly higher. I mean year 5 of Dan Hurley here at Pitt? Probably 1 NIT early on and I would wager 3 NCAA Tournament appearances with 1 fairly deep run.

Is Hurley an arrogant ass? Sure? Is he easy to despise? Of course. But it's not even close to who the better coach is between him and Capel. And you'd know he'd have a pretty nice staff in place too.

So please just stop with the nonsense that Hurley would have struggled here. What a load of crap. Would he maybe leave after 5, 6 seasons? Who knows but it's possible. But he would have made Pitt fans forget about the Stallings era really quick.

And Bill Murray would be in Pittsburgh all the time

Multiple things can be true at the same time. For anyone to say they are glad we got Capel instead of Hurley based on basketball alone. That person doesn't know basketball. Watch a Hurley coached team vs a Capel coached team. Tell me how many sets produce wide open shots. Look at the defensive metrics.

Hurley also has a big advantage as it is easier to recruit to Uconn vs Pitt.

Hurley would of been a homerun hire here. Pitt would be replicating the Howland/ Dixon days. Possibly advancing further in the tournament.

Lets hope this year sets Capel up for a foundation. I hope so.

Hurley
Was
Never
Coming
To
Pitt
The
End!!

And Pitt was good from 2001-2015, used to have an established brand and plays in what was supposed to be the best conference in the country? What does any of that have to do with taking over a mess of a program on probation?
UConn has produced a little more than twice the number of NBA players in the last 30 years. Capel is improving our recruiting now it seems but Uconn is just an easier place to get top players. I assume they have solid NIL in place

Again, no one is saying Hurley would have won a national title at Pitt or done what he’s doing at UConn. He’d have Pitt in the tournament every year and poised to make deep tournament runs every year. He’s an elite coach
