If You Didn't Root for Pitt...

My number two (enter joke here) has always been Ohio State since I was a little kid. Unrelated to sports, it was also a very close second as my undergrad choice. It's a good school and I like urban (pun no longer intended) schools, obviously. The emergence of OSU as the usual bane of PSUs football existence now, since we never can be again after this year, just adds extra impetus to root for the bucks.

Toss up. NS State(originally committed there) or Purdue always been a Clemson fan too. A friend of mind played on the 81 Championship team

...who would you root for?

Me, Georgia Tech...for no other reason than I am a glutton for punishment and they are somewhat the Pitt clone...
Duke in basketball and Clemson in football. It would feel nice to be a frontrunner for a change.

Florida State as I grew up in Tallahassee going to FSU games in the 80s and early 90s.

So.Cal, I was in LA for about a decade, Trojan big supporters have deep pockets and will pay big $$$ to make and keep football very, very competitive.

Clemson...only because I like Dabo. I don't know him, but he seems to be a really good guy.

Reportedly, Dabo was one of the first non-Pitt people who contacted James Conner after James got his bad diagnosis, and I doubt that he'd ever met James at that time. And Dabo is a genuine, rags-to-riches story: he and his mother had, at one point in their lives, been living out of their old car.

It's nice to see someone's hard work finally pay off, and he seems to have handled his success without his hat size getting bigger.

If we go by rooting for a program based on their fanbase treating me well, I'll add Virginia Tech. Been there road trips twice and they were great, nice folks and helpful, and good fun to tailgate and sit among in the stands. Both in a game we lost and a game where we upset them.

The polar opposite of that is Toledo. Total aholes. Not only root for them to lose every time (well unless they play PSU) but annihilated. Based on that game in 03 or 04. What trash they were, before during and after that game.

The U in football! Loved them since a kid in the 90s and a bunch of my friends went there.

Michigan State...since the late 1950's. Loooonnnng before I was a Pitt fan.
Not sure why...maybe colors, maybe mascot, maybe presentation on TV in those old days...
Just Michigan State

or maybe you like the little guy standing up to the big thinks their schitt don't stink school of that state and just went with that thought process in PA later on...

Grew up in South Carolina, so I still root for
1. SC. 2. Clemson 3. Alabama. When I came north in '72 there were a lot more people who always rooted for Pitt and PSU except for 1 day a year, in the same way my childhood friends and I still root for SC/Clemson.
Rooting for Alabama in the Bowl season is an old southern tradition.

Tough lineman from Hempfield went there in the 60s..might have been Chatlos c

Voted MNC, then lost to UCLA in one of the best Rose Bowl games I ever watched. The bowl games back then were actually a bigger deal than the voting for No 1.

The following yr unless misrembering was the 10 -10 tie with ND....the following week Irish wiped out USC in LA and won the voting.

Not surprised to read about MSU fan from back in the day ....they were bad ass

Nebraska football. Grew up during Osborne era. Clean, classic, hardnosed football from a state that was as different from Florida or California as you could get.

Iowa. Grew up in Iowa going to football, wrestling and basketball games. Brother wrestled at Iowa and played football there.

I’ve lasted 40 years as a Pitt fan. Through good bad and ugly. Never thought about what other team I’d be supporting. I’d probably go with VT basketball, and probably support local high school football or something. I can’t imagine any other college team. I know I would absolutely still hate ND, PSU, FSU, USC, Bama, and several others. I’d still hate Boise state for that ugly field for sure.

Always liked USC and Texas...

Always really liked Ohio St.

I really admire Clemson now and the program Dabo has built.

For me it is Pitt football and whoever is playing the pedophiles. I was a big fan of Barry Switzer's Oklahoma team and the wishbone attack. I don't root for them anymore.

On the hoops side, I was a massive Louisville fan growing up. Darrell Griffith and the 1980 title team and Milt Wagner and the 1986 title team were my favorites. However, once Denny Crum left, I learned to hate them. Then when Pitino came my hate got worse and I can't stand them now.

FAU - Lane Kiffin is doing great things with tier 2 Florida talent/speed plus they have an excellent stadium

Navy, I live less than an hour away, and I absolutely love their stadium, saw Pitt play there, great place to visit. Plus they have been a decent G5 team and entertaining in recent decades. Though kind of sliding now. Paul Johnson kind of put them on the map before going to GT.

Southern Cal.

We Are....S C
Fight On

hey how about that, we finally agree on something. USC never competes with us for recruits, and we never play them so they are by no means a threat to us. Plus they have the best fight song and cheerleaders in college football. And I always enjoy seeing them take it to the nits at the Rose Bowl. Wish they would regain their swagger and take it to the good ol boys in the SEC, sad to see them annihilated by bama.
