Do i wish we had the right coach hired by now...of course. But things don't always play out perfectly. It's important not to panic and to stick to your game plan, as I believe HL is doing. There is a reason why the media and many of our negative posters are not AD's, and that's because they are not qualified to be AD's. So while it may be easy to write articles second guessing our process or fun for some posters to tear apart HL, it is not always easy.
Monday morning quarterbacking our situation, i am very excited.
- Hurley - when Pitt offered what was known to be a package that UConn or RI would not be able to match, no matter how many days Hurley negotiated with them while we waited, it became obvious very quickly that his heart was elsewhere. No need to be disappointed. If you don't want us, we don't want you. Not complicated.
- Miller - regardless of whether HL wanted to go forward with him and was overruled or not, after all we have been through, do you really want to hire a big name only to be constantly looking over your shoulder and waiting for the ball to drop. Not me...
- Oats, Shrewsbury, etc. - there are many great coaches out there, whether they are sitting head coaches or assistant coaches. Great recruiters, defensive gurus, worked under so and so for many years, etc. A lot of guys out there bring a lot to the table and, as Matt has said numerous times, if the fit is right they can be very successful at Pitt.
