Well, some of those were just halftime scores.

* Maryland is now up by 12
* FSU came back and beat FA.
* Syracuse beat Cornell by 21.

But, yeah, a lot of upsets today.

We beat Cornell 93-49. If Syracuse was good they would not have struggled at all. I doubt they dance this season. Probably an NIT team.

Texas A&M is clobbering Baylor in a matchup of top 25 teams. A&M was up 21 at the half, and they've extended that to 27 at the under 12 timeout.

Iowa State indeed lost to Northern Iowa at home. Those intrastate games can get intense.

In the AP pole, #4, #5, #7, and #9 all lost... AND... they all lost... at home.

As BethJohn pointed out, the Iowa State - Northern Iowa game was not at Iowa State. It was played on a neutral court in Des Moines.

Also, it's a record of people's votes and not a long, cylindrical piece of wood, metal or other materials, so "poll", not "pole".

Furthermore, Purdue's loss to Butler was also not at Purdue, it was in Indianapolis at the Pacers' arena. It was part of a doubleheader that also featured Indiana's win over Notre Dame.

Oh, and one more. The Ohio State - Kentucky game was played at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, not at Rupp Arena.

In other words, you know those four top ten teams that "all lost... at home". Yeah, none of them actually lost at home. They all lost neutral site games.

Can I get the cliffs notes version of what this all means for our tourney chances? With the obvious exception of the Duke/Utah game of course - as that's already been clearly spelled out in another thread.

We beat Cornell that bad but against Detroit got down by 1 five minutes into the second half... and then went on a 22-3 run and got a lead up to 27 before slacking off and just winning by 16.

Doesn't matter how bad you beat teams (well, in the computer rankings it does) it just matters that you win... and particularly win against the better teams.

Pomeroy still has Cuse at #44 in their rankings so you would have to say they are still an NCAAT team by those rankings.... but they indeed could continue to slide and end up in the NIT.

Right now in Pomeroy... there are 5 ACC teams in the top 11. Virginia (#1), Louisville (#8), North Carolina (#9), Duke (#10) and Miami (#11). Barring a total collapse... these teams are locks for the NCAA Tourney.

Then there are four more teams that are 'probable' for the NCAA Tourney. Notre Dame (#24), Pitt (#32), Florida State (#37) and Cuse (#44). Yeah, Cuse has been sliding and if they slide some more they will be on the bubble.

So, looks like nine ACC teams in the big dance... though that can obviously change as the season move along.

After that, no teams 'on the bubble' but 5 teams in the 'also ran' category.... NCS (#60), Clemson (#72), GT (#81), Wake (#97), and VT (#112). Yeah, nice to see Buzz Williams and VT get out of the 'bad' teams category.

Then there is a big dropoff until you get to BC (#213) in the VERY bad category.

Our road games at Ville, at UNC, at Miami, at ND and at FSU, are going to be VERY difficult. But, if we can steal a W or two in these games and win our home games against the top teams, Ville, UVA and Duke, we should be OK. Hmmmm... just realized we have five games against the tougher opponents on the road and just three at home.

As I see it our biggest games of the season are UVA and the Dukesters at home. If we can't beat these teams even at home... we are an also-ran. Lost to both of them at home two years ago and it is time to turn things around.
