When the new format was announced, I thought they would use run differential as the tiebreaker to determine the group-winner in groups where all 3 teams go 1-1. However, that's not the case. When all teams go 1-1, the highest seeded team will advance.

This means that the lowest-seeded team in the group has to go 2-0 to advance. But it also means, that if they lose their first game, they will have a "lame duck" 2nd game with no shot at advancing.

I don't know how they will arrange the schedule but if the 2 lowest-seeded teams play first and the lowest-seeded team loses that game, that means the group's top-seed can clinch a semifinal spot after its first game if they play the middle seed and beat them, which sets up a 3rd game between the top seed who has already advanced and the lowest seed, who has already been eliminated.
