Interesting stat. Pitt is second to last in passing yards per game.

Guess what team is last?

Toddy Fraudy.

The year before Fraud was at Pitt, he was at Tulsa from 2007-2010. I will give you all one guess for which team was last in pass defense in 2010?

Connection or just a coincidence? His Pitt recruits would be seniors or redshirt juniors now.

Move over Fraud, Pitt goal is to capture the #128 spot this Sat.

Actually this isn't a bad observation...but it is time to quit looking into the past with former coaches and see how Duzz can fix this mess for the foreseeable future

Not interesting-disturbing.

More disturbing stats--Pitt is 115th in passing offense out of 128, and 76th in total offense.

This brings up an interesting question... Are the two - our passing defense and passing offense - somewhat linked? Think about it... Who is the passing defense practicing against? In a matchup of our secondary against our QB and receivers, who looks better? I'm really interested to know who dominates there - and has it given a false assessment to our coaches as to that unit's true abilities?

I posted some of these links before in another thread the other day to make a point to another person. Probably makes sense to repost them here with one other at the bottom that's relevant for Saturday.

Reality check for the coach and any Pitt fans wanting to know just how our secondary stacks up against the other FBS teams...
Hint: Look at the team at the VERY BOTTOM.

Here' another disturbing stat that's not surprising. Pitt is second from the top when it comes to opponent passing yards percentage:
Unfortunately in this is a category, you probably want to be at the bottom.

Here's another beautiful stat... opponents passing first downs per game:

Maybe the most interesting stat of all - since Pitt plays Marshall this week:

Pitt is 119 out of 128 when it comes to opponent yards per completion. What makes it interesting is that Marshall is one of the few teams that is below Pitt: They just happen to be the absolute worst FBS school in this category (128 out of 128).

Pitt should easily be able to generate lots of passing yards on Saturday (in addition to running yards). Peterman should be taking lots of shots deep on this team (including passes to Orndoff). This stat may help tell us a lot about Peterman. If Pitt doesn't throw much against the defense that's giving up the most yardage per completion this season, it would be a big mistake and it would suggest that Pitt has no interest in having Peterman throw a deep ball all season.

I think it might be relevant because Narduzzi is stuck with Graham's DB recruits at the senior and redshirt junior levels. Not making excuses because his defense needs to improve, but his players stink.

I'd couple this with the fact that Cryst had almost no interest in recruiting defensive players.
Or WRs. Or good QBs.

Unfortunately, I worry the opposite may be happening now and the talent at WR will get even worse.

Actually, I don't. The defense was so bad, it needed help fast. I also think the style that Narduzzi wants to run is less flashy and more possession oriented. Bigger WR's and a QB that is not terribly pretty but can manage the offense and be somewhat accurate on possession type passing.

Jury will be out on that for a while since Pitt didn't even had legitimate QB depth in terms of numbers, let alone talent, when Narduzzi got here. I'd say WR is the same.
