a poor qb and wrs or a staff that does not have confidence in those players and has not even given those players a chance to fail?

I think Peterman is better than the coaching staff has allowed him to be

His stats last year and this year until the 4th qtrs conservatism are fine.

Trust the kid to throw the ball.

I agree that Pitt has to stretch the field with the deep pass if just to make the defense semi-honor the deep pass.

I do not care if Pitt's QB throws the ball 10 yds over the head of the WR and DB on a 30-40-50 yd pass. Please just throw it deep on 3rd and long a few times. How bad can it be?

I think it's that because the QB isn't all that great and the WRs even way less so the coaches don't have confidence in them. Which is pretty much essentially what you said.

Peterman appeared to be decent last year but it's becoming pretty evident that Boyd was THAT good (not that we didn't know that anyway). He had an effect on the entire field.

if we ever want to win the ACC, we need it. Champion teams have balance.

OSU and UNC have some of the worst run defenses in college football. PSU are what they are.....not a good team this year.

The problem with the passing game is that Pitt doesn't need it. Your offense put over 100 points on the board in the last three weeks by not passing.

No disagreements on needing it eventually. You put the OC in a really bad spot in that game by asking them to throw late to preserve a victory.

For what it's worth, Peterman completed 70% of his passes and didn't get picked. There were some big 3rd down passes and runs that he converted too. He may not have "won" the game with his arm but he sure as heck didn't lose it.

-Pitt is averaging .504 points per play, which puts us as the 24th most efficient offense in the country. If these numbers were readjusted for just competition against P5 teams and eliminating the cupcakes everyone else has played against non-Power 5 teams, Pitt's offense would be ranked in the Top 10 in the country for total efficiency as the offense has averaged 39 points per game the last 3 games.

-There is nothing that needs changed with the offense when you are that efficient. To be that efficient on offense and control time of possession like Pitt has done and still be 2-2, means your defense and your secondary is the worst in the country for it to happen, which it currently is.

Not on 3rd and long NGF-on 1st down or second and short.

It's chess, not checkers. Sometimes you have to risk burning a play to set up your next move.

It's foolish to think that Pitt still doesn't need a passing game, just because the offense has been efficient so far pounding the rock. PSU, OKST, and UNC all are pathetic defensively, so I wouldn't use them as a barometer. When Pitt plays Clemson, Miami, or even VaTech, I don't think its going to come so easy.

Peterman & the WR's have been mentioned, but I think its also fair to say that pass protection isn't what the O-line does best.

Peterman has gotten almost all of the heat on the various message boards for the passing game. Truth is he is average but can still throw. The receivers are not separating. Even the "speedster" Weah can't get open - so I assume these guys are bad route runners and NP doesn't have any faith to just throw it out there like he did for Boyd.

Can't all be on the QB.

Peterman needs to HIT'EM WITH THE HEIN!

Nate isn't good or accurate.

They did trust him, and he went 0 for in the 4th quarter.

If they trusted him they'd have let him throw on 1st or second down when the percentages are way more favorable, rather than only throwing on 3rd and long when the D is sitting on the pass play. Coaches and posters on this board talk all the time about putting players in a position to succeed. Having your QB throw only in 3rd and long situations is the opposite of that.

I wouldn't even say Pitt is that efficient running.
They do well in the first half. Not so much in the second half of games.
