Is this the greatest recruiting weekend in Pitt history?

Posted a similar thought earlier in AM, I absolutely agree. Ive never even heard of anything like that before with other schools. What Duzz did was special

Not sure if there are stats. but today's USA Today article made it seem like the greatest single recruiting day in any school's history... at least during this part of the recruiting season.

Have to say, the day they signed Dorsett or Marino where probably better, those where each worth 10 3-stars by themselves.

Yeah, but that isnt apples to apples. Thats Monday morning qbing. I mean when 2 star Aaron Donald committed, there wasnt fanfare either. But then he arguably become the most decorated defensive player in Pitt history.

I think getting 10 recruits from all over the country coming together one weekend on many of their first visits to Pittsburgh and committing is pretty unreal.

I think it is a sign that some of these new coaching hires are solid, and the stars just aligned this past weekend.

What a flawed article by an ignorant writer (Cam Smith ) who apparently doesn't know much about recruiting. First of all... Pitt is not "one of the most anemic recruiting programs in the ACC". Are you kidding? What a stupid thing to say. Pitt recruiting classes consistently rank in the high 30s nationally most years (out of 129 FBS schools). When they fall below that level, it's usually because they had a smaller recruiting class (or a coaching change). They are a middle-of-the-pack program in the ACC, which isn't too bad considering they play in one of the top conferences in the nation. This early in the recruiting season rankings don't mean squat, it's more about quality. Of course a team is going to have a big jump in rankings when they go from one commitment to eleven. We had some catching up to do, and had a great weekend. Now we're caught up. Lots of backhanded compliments by this buffoon, who "somehow" got a job at USA Today. Screw him.

It was a dumb article, but he probably, and hopefully meant this particular year, which one couldnt deny was anemic before this past weekemd.

Other than that, it is mildly readable.

So he could have written that Pitt was off to an anemic start in recruiting this season before receiving an eye-popping nine commitments in one day. Not that hard, considering this is what he does for a living.

High 30's means below average in the P5 when there are 65 schools that matter and Pitt has been struggling to stay in the top half of the conference for recruiting. Anemic might be an overstatement but it's certainly wrong to suggest everything is just fine.

Even in recruiting points I’d think

How long has the concept of recruiting points existed?

I want to get excited about the new players but if we added ten 3 star players, one at a time, over 10 weeks, would people really be this pumped? It was good marketing, but time will tell on if this will do anything to move the needle on our post 1982 middling football results.

Yeah, but we didnt... we added 10 in one day. If you cant get excited over that then I dont know what to tell you. We didnt swing and miss at 5 stars, they werent there. But we got commitments from players that were there. That is noteworthy.

Isn't the result the same? I was mildly excited when I read about it when I got back from vacation. Maybe I would have been more excited about so many three star guys signing up if I had lived through it instead of being on the beach without a smart phone.

I dont think so.

I mean, if I took 10 test and scored 10% on each, I dont think its the same as taking one and scoring 100%.

We got the QB we wanted, and we got alot of talent in one weekend. It was a weekend the whole staff was looking forward to, and they hit a home run. They have been swinging and missing all year until now. You can give credit for the home run, its ok. My point is it bodes well for when we have the 4 or maybe 5 stars on campus that we have the coaches that can close like this.

It is more like taking 10 tests and scoring a 10 on all of them vs. taking 10 tests and scoring a 0 on 9 of them and 100 on 1 of them and then being pumped you have a 10 average.

Numbers in a weekend. Perhaps!

However, wasn’t too long ago Gottfried pulled in back to back top 5 recruiting classes.

Of course a year later we fired him and hired Hackett lol

It was a very long time ago but it was the weekend one Tony Dorsett committed to Pitt.

Ok...

We had quite a few hofers. Did Dorsett say he was going to pick another school then flipped to Pitt? I wasn’t around then.
You know Dorsett weighed 155 lbs.....
Grandpa Munster I believe offered him.
ND either didn’t offer him or wanted him to play D back which I believe he was All State at that position.
So I’m not really sure who all offered him....

Foge Fazio said once Danny Marino was the most heavily recruited player Pitt ever landed.

Bottom line not sure of the particulars....but from Day 1 down in GA when Pitt scored a tie against a big big favorite...it was perfectly clear Pitt had something the likes of which it never had seen.

TD was one of a kind.

One that counted.
Even if it wasnt a weekend, it was the greatest recruiting day in Pitt history.
The End

That is very odd reasoning for what weekend was the best recruiting weekend. I consider recruiting to be work done to get recruits to get to your school, not the coaching and play designing to make a player the best player.
