Looking at the big picture, all in all, it’s been a good month or so.
When the season ended, we had Watson as our OC, a guy responsible for not developing our young QB and who managed a horrible passing attack. And many of us thought we were stuck with him, that PN wouldn’t fire a mentor. Then the positive moves started.
1) Watson got fired.
2) Then the WR coach got tossed too -- full passing game cleanout.
3) New guys were hired in a reasonable amount of time; not super quick, but it didn’t drag on.
4) The new hires seem good. We’ll see, but considering the possibilities, their resumes have more positives than not. The OC is experienced as an OC and head coach, has had passing oriented offenses, and has been a QB coach (Ben). The WR coach is considered to be a good recruiter, with strengths in the DMW area and ACC areas to the south. And he has experience as a WR coach at several P5 schools, and a recent promotion to co-OC. He was available because of the mess at MD.
We’re in better shape than when the season ended, and a lot better than where I expected to be, which was with Watson as OC going forward and a slew of offensive player transfers.
