North Carolina won because they have more play makers on both sides of the ball. There QB made tons of plays and no mistakes. Their receivers made big plays all night. Their RB's ran hard and gashed our D most of the night. Most impressive were their DB's who actually look for the ball. That's pretty much the story of the game. Besides Boyd, we have no one who can make explosive plays on offense. Defensively, our DB's got abused. Our LB's got run over (think about how many running plays NC ran for 8,9,10 yards and our safeties had to make the play). Add to this, our play calling was pretty vanilla and you have all the ingredients for an L.

All that said, there were some good things. The biggest positive, was that the team didn't quit. I thought the game had a chance to become a blowout after the first half. To their credit, the kids fought hard. We just dug too deep a hole to get out of.

Need to re-group for another tough game coming up.

P.S. - I don't really want to call out specific players, but can someone explain to me why Chris James gets so many carries? Honestly, he runs like a wimp and he is NOT elusive. Very average back at best. If you must rest Ollison, bring in Hall.

P.S.S.- not to look too far ahead, but when Boyd is gone we could be in deep poo. No one else is even remotely productive.

Great summary. Their QB does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield making plays under pressure. We have talent issues. Anybody that thought otherwise was kidding themselves. Gotta give the team credit though. They scrapped back and played with a lot of heart despite a lackluster first half.

No clue why Ollison was not running more in the second half. He averaged almost 5.5 yards per carry. When he ran straight at the defense they struggled to stop him.

This game was won up front. UNC DL didn't let our OL push them around and pressured Peterman fairly well all night so that's why the play calling was vanilla. Without a deep threat, and not a ton of time to throw, that is what this offense is, so we can get used to it. UNC's QB had a nice game but nothing spectacular. It's nice to have WEAPONS on offense! That first TD was a nice play, but a broken one-- you could see the DBs slow because they thought Jarrret had the sack. It was a heads up play by Switzer to quickly separate from Pat Amara and for Williams to find him. The 2nd TD was nicely designed, their WR ended up with 1on1 with Laffy Pitts, not Avonte Maddox like the announcer said. The safeties were run off and Williams just dumped the ball over Galambos and in front of Pitts -- TD! Pitts did not have a good game at all last night. We need someone to give Ollison a rest, James is it. COME ON DOWN MILES SANDERS and DAMAR HAMLIN, you will play from day one for sure! I think the staff has to get Whitehead in on "O" for 5-6 plays a game. That unit needs a jump start. Also, keep hitting those TEs. We have some pass catching ability at that position, use it. THE OL NEEDS TO STEP UP IN BIG GAMES! I did like the way the team battled in the 2nd half. UNC did ALL their damage offensively in the 2nd quarter and played REAL solid D throughout. I think the team's weak links ARE being addressed in recruiting so I am thinking things are still looking great. You got to remember, this team is AHEAD of where anyone thought they'd be this year!

Can't really pick out anything we did really well last night, but wow was our secondary awful. I'm just baffled that no matter who we bring in, they will not under any circumstance turn around and look for the ball. This has been going on for years now.

I don't know who else agrees with me, but I also think this game proved one thing. Narduzzi is an absolute game/program changer at head coach. No way that game last night ends up being as close with Chryst, Graham, Wanny, probably even Walt. When we start seeing Narduzzi's own recruits on the field, watch out.

I was very disappointed in the tackling and contain by DL & LB (especially 1st half). Pitt got no pressure, and Pitts got torched on several big plays. I am mystified how he misses making plays on balls at all (especially long passes) - at some point don't you look? Just once? Williams showed a lot of moxie, Switzer made the big plays.

Felt like Ollison just disappeared - not by his choice. Seemed like every time he got the ball he would gash ahead for 5 yards. Would rather have seen that than the qb sneak after the fourth quarter. I felt like the offense coming up with 400 yards total should be enough to win Pitt the game. They did not capitalize on opportunities to match points with UNC. Peterman did fine, though I am sure Chaney didn't think they would be throwing that many times. Boyd got his touches, and made some really nice grabs while breaking out of double coverage. Unfortunately, none of them were high impact.

Pitt can still win the Coastal with help, and they have much left to play for. A very disappointing night, but not their fate is not yet final.

Switzer made the big plays
After 3 straight years of this, he's almost at a Scottie Reynolds level of dislike for me. Doesn't help he's from WV and flat out said he hated Pitt growing up and when he didn't get an offer from WVU, he wanted to go somewhere where he could play Pitt every year.

Friggin' Scottie Reynolds Switzer.

They were the better team for sure in pretty much every respect including coaching. I didn't realize that Gene Chizik was their DC until this game. That;s no joke when you have an ex national champion, former COY head coach as your DC. Fedora had better not sleep on that guy.

To be fair, it wasn't a pretty game, but it was a one TD game, and should have been a 6 point game. A very good onsides kick wasn't recovered, and if it was, we had a chance to win in the final minute!
To read the posts above, one would get the impression that NC overwhelmed Pitt and really blew them out.
Now I understand we lost, and I understand NC had a lot of talented players out there, BUT....
Pitt very well should have scored a TD on one of their FG drives, especially after the blocked punt. That's 4 additional points. Pitt very well should have had a FG in the last drive of the first half. Ineptness on the part of the coaches prevented that. That's 3 more....add in the missed PAT and we win!
Of course none of that happened for various reasons, but it isn't far fetched to think it could have or even should have. A much closer game than it appeared to be on the surface.
When the guys review the film, they will see just how close they actually were to being victorious.

Long as we're going shoulda coulda woulda Fedora kicked 4 FGs from inside our 15 yard line. One was from the 8. Peterman threw the ball directly to a UNC defender in the 4th quarter on our side of the field that was dropped. etc. etc. We were manhandled badly in the first half. Nonetheless, our D gave up tons of yardage but held UNC to short FGs. We lost the game with our offense, and honestly, it wasn't close. We scored a TD with a minute left and were still down 7. It would have taken a miracle play out of an offense that struggled all night to make routine plays. The good news is we never quit. played hard until the final whistle. That;ls a big change around here.

The lost by 4 to 5 Plays in this game, and that happens! They may do the same against ND, Duke, ULou, and Miami, until the Offense kicks in, and so far, sputters all year?

Pitt won the other 6 games on 4 to 5 plays too!
