Living in his fears

So now tenure alone is worth a 4.5x pay multiple?

Dawg every single thing you say in Tomlin's defense makes him look worse lol. I'm not sure if it's just Tomlin or if you're actually this bad at comprehension and analysis in other areas of life but you're starting to worry me that you may need to be in a conservatorship.
You would have to ask his boss !
I don’t care what his salary is since it’s not my money .
There is zero coaching salary cap !

Rooney thinks Tomlin is the right coach and he’s the one with the checkbook.
Your wailing and gnashing of teeth won’t make a difference.

Listened to Art Jr.'s press conference today.
Hard to hear with the sound of all the heads exploding around here!
I think Pittsburgh knows what it’s like to have bad ownership and bad teams and hold the Steelers to a higher standard—as no one wants to see them become the pirates. When the fans are complacent, that’s when you have to really worry. It’s actually good heads are exploding. Sirianni in Philly is under pressure to produce in Philly. He feels the pressure. Tomlin should feel the pressure but knows there isn’t any from above. And Rooney has no one to answer to unless he feels the heat from the fans.

The only heads exploding are those who think the name Rooney is magic -
He’s a big part of the problem .

He’s very complacent enough to get richer and know his taxes are going down

This team has been outscored 131-14 in the 1st quarter of their last 6 playoff games. Nope, nothing to see here.
Big nasty Tomlin D.

Mediocre at best since 2018.

I just looked it up. Outside of 1 year going all the way back to 2005, Steelers averaged in top 5 in YPG. Then something happened the last 5 years in which the Steelers have been in the bottom 3rd of the league.

Anyone have theories?

Yes. Tomlin is one of the most conservative coaches in football. Probably some more nuance but I really feel it begins there.

It was the Rooneys fault. MM was just following orders
Why does the owner keep extending Tomlin?
Eventually , you’re going to learn where the root cause of the problem is

Or maybe not .

Amazingly , you scream Nutting sucks consistently for why the Pirates aren’t good . Most believe the name Rooney is magical!
Or it’s all part of the Tomlin Deep State!

Maybe we need tariffs to solve the problems?!?

Look at captain obvious pointing out a fact that no one is debated to deflect blame from his hero mediocre Mike

No shit. The Owner has the prerogative to hire and fire a coach. There not a person in this discussion who is debating that other than you. Clearly for what ever reason the Roomeys are content with your boy Tomlin mediocrity.

But if you think Tomlin doesn’t have significant control or input into EVERY personnel decision then perhaps you might want to extricate your head from his arse and get some oxygen. The Medicore performance falls mostly on the shoulders of your hero

Just like Shelton being a total moron doesn’t change the fact that Nutting hired him and can fire him as well.

Regarding tariffs you really don’t want to go there as that’s well beyond your pull counting skills I do find it amusing that the same dopes who say the tarrifs will just be passed along to the consumer are for taxing the crap out of businesses but think the businesses for some reason won’t pass those costs off to the consumer

Thankfully tariffs have been introduced into this stale and boring thread.
Sure way to have it killed and put out of its misery!!!

Here's where you're wrong, fella.

I'm rich, live in a rich country, and there are more competing options than ever for my money and my attention. Many of these options are simply more compelling to me as a football fan and a consumer than the Steelers.

With streaming services I can just pick a different, better run, team or a different set of better players to follow. Why would I lock in every Sunday to see the Steelers play a 16-13 rock fight against the Falcons before losing 5 straight (4 of which were by double-digits) for years and years? Especially with no introspection and no coaching or managerial changes? You think I'm going to spend more than 5 consecutive years of my life waiting for these guys to get their **** together?

Nah, man. It's 2025 and the Steelers haven't done squat in 8 years. They also badly mismanaged their talent and chose very obviously flawed paths. Do you owe someone undying loyalty even when they do obviously dumb things and then tell you to shut up when you point this out? I wouldn't think so.

I don't need the Steelers. They need me. And they're choosing to find out the hard way how wrong their approach to modern fandom is is. Art 2 is rapidly turning his customers over to his competitors. He'll probably keep Tomlin until the bitter end and by then it will have been 15 years since the Steelers won a playoff game. Lots of people will have moved on by then. Either to other teams or just to individual players via fantasy football. I suspect you'll keep defending him and Tomlin though. After all, the real measure of coaching success is how expensive you are and how much tenure you have.

Well, you're one "fella". Going to take thousands and thousands of "fellas" to go your way before it dents the fervor of Steeler Nation.

Tomlin can be fired today if his boss wants to .

You’re yammering

You’re mistaken
I’m fine with a zero corporate income tax . They should pay local property taxes including not for profits since they rely on those services .
I do want them regulated and fined heavily for environmental damage.
I’m not the type who thinks corps should escape accountability for their externalities.
Oh- and since they are only legal entities - no more lobbying and PAC donations!

You say you don’t need the Steelers
But you can’t stop obsessing over their coach !
On a pitt message board .

Vote with your wallet and stop caring !

But it’s funny how the guy who says “I’m rich” then says “the real measure of coaching success is how expensive and how much tenure you have “.
Seems it’s exactly how you measure your own worth ?

If you have season tickets , sell them . Stop watching.
To me - it’s just a TV show .

I don't think Hurts is anything special, honestly. Their 3rd stringer looked good in that offense.
I see what you did there. ;). Nice faulty omission…lol.

Hurts has been meh of late. But he was really really good on Sunday, continuing the trend of those who filled in for him.

Most QBs would excel in that offense frankly. And I’m not convinced any of their 3, including Hurts, would look good here. Did you see that clip circulating of Hurts talking about how the Steelers really liked him, he thought he’d be coming here, and when he saw a call from PA on draft day he thought it was Pittsburgh calling? My take is that Hurts would have looked like crap here, wouldn’t have developed and would be a middling backup somewhere in the league if the Steelers had drafted him. Wow did he get lucky. Really lucky.

Handing the ball to Barkley this year would make you look good at QB!

It's already happening. I have tons of Boomer Yinzer relatives that don't obsess about them anymore. I've seen loads of people online losing faith. People my age have young kids and don't need to try hard to find an excuse not to waste a fall Sunday on bad football. Kids are wearing Mahomes jerseys to school. It's a failing franchise across many different demographics.

It won't matter for Tomlin. He'll ride this dying horse until the end of his contract and retire. But it will matter for the Steelers. Because the youngest person who can remember the Steelers being meaningfully good is about 22 years old now. Give it 5 more years and they'll be 30ish. The next generation up will have missed not only the Steel Curtain, Blitzburgh, the 09 SI cover defense but also the entirety of Big Ben's career. What is their anchor memory going to be that will get them through the tough times of being a fan? A 20 point playoff loss to the Bills? Give me a break.

After a decade-plus of mediocre football and with many other options, the Steelers won't have a monopoly on attention spans anymore. And there's no one to blame but themselves and maybe you guys for slavishly defending the company at every turn.

I'm rich because I create a lot of surplus value for companies that make a lot of money. If Tomlin did that I'd have no issue with him. Instead his VORP is essentially negative because he's extremely expensive and also solidly mediocre. If he had an ounce of self-respect he'd give some of that money back. Dude is essentially living off of what another group of men did for him 15 years ago. Shameful.

And OC's and QB's who use the entire field.
It really is massive the difference between franchises. Not to mention they have a QB they know they can win with.

It’s as bad as the penguins winning 14 games in regulation out of 52. Both franchises should be tearing it down and embracing horrible. Gotta tear it down before building it up.

Edit: any chance there’s a generational player in the nhl draft this year?

No. 4-5 really good players. No Sid. No McDavid. Next year Gavin McKenna is definitely a possibility to be a guy like that. In 2027 there is a defenseman that is projected to go #1 overall that supposedly has more upside than Cale Makar.

FSG is more likely to stand pat since they are selling a minority stake .
Turmoil isn’t usually attractive to billionaires

Thanks. I checked out a few years ago when the pens should have torn it down. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has. And the Steelers are making the same mistake.

I’ve only watched a handful of eagles games - but is that true ?
Seems most of brown and smith’s catches are of the Pickens run and catch variety .

Andy Reid is a screen genius , and is very creative with using a speedster like Worthty in different positions to create mismatches .
Helps to have the best QB in the game making the reads and throws !

He’s getting richer every year
What’s his motivation, honestly ?
1) honor his father
2) make money
3) you act like incompetence isn’t in play here.

How much does he make from concessions each game and what is he risking if he gets 10-15,000 no shows for a couple games after thanksgiving?

He’s overpaying his head coach, killing his brand, and losing home playoff game revenue.

There are long term repercussions for short term vision.

A good businessman should realize this. Rooney doesn’t. He inherited an elite brand and is risking watering down that brand for the next heir.

Aside from Bill Nunn’s brilliance which was a competitive advantage for the Steelers, The 70’s dynasty was born out of 60’s sucking. Without that period of suck, there’s no Joe Green, Terry Bradshaw or Free Meal Franco. Without a 6-10 season 25 years ago, there is no Ben and no 5th and 6th Lombardi.
