Nice numbers for Jamel.

Did he get to play the point?

I really thought Artis could be on a roster for a few years. Im not surprised.

Congratulations to him.

The real interesting thing is that Jamie brought in the best NBA talent in his tenure in only a couple recruiting cycles with Patterson, Birch, Adams, Artis, and Young but we were only mediocre during that time.

Unfortunately, none of those guys were traditional 1 or 2's. Slightly better backcourt play over the last 5 years of Jamie's tenure could have made those teams really good, especially the 2013 and '14 squads.

James Robinson is the NCAA career leader in assist to turnover ratio.

I’m not about to turn this into a James Robinson bashing session for the 1000th time on the Lair. He was solid but nothing more. If Levance or Krauser were on those teams in 2013 or ‘14 I feel confident they would have been better than 9 seeds— and they weren’t even NBA level PGs.

I was being sarcastic. Robinson would have been a nice PG for an offense-heavy super team but for Pitt, he wasn't what was needed. I'd take Freshman Marcus Carr and his extra turnovers over Senior James Robinson all day. Robinson's assist to TO numbers are a product of not taking any risks and in turn never making any plays very similar to Tino's senior year which was the greatest in program history by some metrics.

He must have learned from Pitt football..

Wanamaker better than all these guys. Prob makes the most money also.

Wanamaker is on a two year deal for a little over $1 million per season, so yeah, he's obviously making more than Young or Artis. But the fact is that Young and Artis are closer to playing in the NBA right now, and that's where the really big money is.

That's always the trade off for these guys. They can, in some cases, make more money playing overseas. But it puts them further away from a chance to play in the NBA. For an older guy like Wanamaker getting as much money as possible may be the goal at this point (and for good reason). For someone just out of college playing for less now to improve your chance at more later is more likely to be the choice.

Looks like Jamel scored 4 and 2 points, respectively, in his last two games, which I believe were his first career points in the league. Congrats Jamel!

I'm a Knicks fan and they played Artis and Orlando tonight. I am not shitting you he was the best player on the floor for both teams. He had 16 points with four 3's and a beautiful runner to cap off his night. He was Ding up Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr and did a decent job.

At halftime I switched to the Orlando feed and the commentators could not shut up about Artis. They were admiring his pure stroke and the open shots that he was getting teammates. If he keeps this play up I bet he makes the Magic roster next season.

Wow that's great. Would love to see Artis get a shot in the league, I think he has the talent to play at that level. Best of luck Jamel!

I’d take JRobs freshman yr over MCs by a mile . Carr isn’t a point guard, what were you watching that makes makes you think that he is/was ? JRob ran JDs offense and forced a lot of bad shots up at the end of he shot clock , blame JDs schemes and his teammates . JRob just never improved much during his Pitt yrs , but JRob could’ve fit in and started on any talented team in the country , MC is at best sitting on the bench at those schools .

I guess it shows why the Magic are struggling this year when Artis and Khem Birch have both seen game time.
what it shows that it is temporarily good to be a g-leaguer tied to a lousy NBA team that is purposely tanking to get players who, unfortunately, will eventually usher you out of the NBA..

Carr over Robinson? Ridiculous.

What it shows is that JA has NBA talent .

Artis is a good fit for the NBA. He can switch on screens, he has decent length (6'10" wing span), and his shot can continually develop over time. It's a shame his career didn't do more here. Not entirely on him by any means, but some of it is.

I agree with the above posts that our recruiting lacked either a true point guard (which these days might be a little different than a Levance Fields, though obviously I'd always take him -- but we never had a great pick and roll guy) which meant quick 1's would take us (especially Robinson) off the dribble and then we lacked a legitimate rim defender the last few three or four years as well to back up that guard.

Artis has now started two of the last three for the Magic and played 32, 32, and 33 minutes in the three games. 16, 18 and 12 points, 15.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.3 tpg. 2-3 on ones, 13-21 on twos, 6-14 on threes.

You are simply wrong. And the more you broadcast the worse you look.
