James Franklin, Rumblings To Leave Penn State, LINK!

Their stadium situation is worse than ours. They don't even have an indoor practice facility. I read that in the last 5 years they have had 33 practices that had to be called because of weather.

They have had a lot of talent under Shannon and Golden and did less than Wanny did with the talent he had at Pitt. I am just thinking the job is not going to be that desirable until they have some real facilities.

What kind of facilities did they have when they were kicking ass 15 years ago? Facilities are everything to schools trying to get in the game to attract talent. Miami is one of the few schools that can attract talent without the facilities.

That was 15 years ago. Stay focused, it is 2015. Things have changed.

Yeah. And its the same crap I heard back in 1998 when Pitt was getting ready to move into the South Side facilities. Then a long came Butch Davis to "clean up" (which looking back, how hilarious is that?!) and rebuild the Miami program. They had a nice 5 or 6 year run. They should have had two titles to show for it, but gawd awful call in the tOSU game...

TD_6082,
I use to feel the same way and I followed them closely and enjoyed many of their games. They were the Best from 2000-2003.

In 2000, OU won the NCS because they did not play Miami, and Miami would have beaten them badly!

In 2001, the crushed Nebraska by Half Time and destroyed their overrated QB Nolan Heisman Winner!

In 2003, they were robbed of a another national Title due to Ref that called an Interference call and that ref was from Nebraska, he gave that game to Ohio State!

They destroyed Penn State as well!

After they joined the ACC and Coker left they have done nothing for a long time. They do need to build New Facilities at least an Indoor Practice Facilities.

They do. But they can win big without it. Let's get Butch Davis or Lane Kiffin down there and we'll see a vastly improved program in a short period of time. Cristobal or Shiano would probably do well there too.

There are a LOT of better jobs out there - now and will be at the end of the season than this Miami job.

1) - the facilities are horrible in Coral Gables - no where near comparable to any of the big boys.
2) - the desperately need an on campus stadium - students are bussed 45 minutes to a stadium that doesn't draw flies...45 minutes.
3) - the Miami fanbase is pathetic - even when they were winning national championships, they never sold out the Orange Bowl.
4) - Miami has not won the ACC in all of the years since they joined the league
5)- Miami has never opened up their checkbooks to coaching staffs - no commitment.

Whoever takes that job will be facing a major uphill battle. Watch and see how may big time coaches are mentioned for that job and all say..."No Thanks."

Southern Cal, South Carolina, even Central Florida now would all offer a much better chance at success.
Virginia, Va. Tech. West Virginia and Illinois may all be open at the end of the year and all offer a better chance at success.

Sure, they have passionate ex-players who just LOVE the U but, they wasted all of their money and most are looked at as a joke - seen 30 for 30 lately?
Miami won their championships by cheating their way there - see Luther Campbell and more recently, Evan Shapiro.

They may get an over the hill Butch Davis who would probably take the job as it would pay "slightly' more than his analyst gig at ESPN.

But if he compared facilities, HE may not even take the job - remember, he left North Carolina in a mess too.

The ONLY thing the U has going for them is that they're located in a very fertile recruiting area.

Miami is a has been and will stay that way.

You can't be serious. If by success you mean winning, then only USC is a superior job to the Miami job. Those others can't compare. FWIW, Miami has beaten VaTech soundly the last two years, if that means anything.

Well, we shall see and please keep postings so we can look back a few years from now or when it happens? The Recruiting is there and Great Coaching is needed! Yet, the other Programs in all Power Conferences are increasing their resources even more as they get TV Money. Stability is important to win the Top 25 and 10? Look at what happen to WVU, PSU, and PITT the last 5 years as they changed Coaches, Presidents, and Athletic Directors? I just don't see them dominating like before and that is tough for all Programs.

Now turn that around, and wonder why many are calling Franklin a poor Head Coach last and this year on their own BWI Boards and the posts remain up, unlike how they were taken down about Paterno?

There is Fear in the Air at Penn State that Franklin can recruit but is a lazy game day coach and does not work as hard as Paterno did?

The Smarter Posters on BWI are posting here knowing this is the place a true discussion can take place without being banned or demean by their Cultists? They know their College Football and can see how bad the Penn State Players and eam is doing under Franklin!

Additionally, a New Coach replacing Franklin should Franklin leave that can coach better on game day and develop his players into complete Teams to compete with OSU, Michigan, Pitt, MSU and NW Coaches.

A New Good Game Day Coach would benefit from the Talent at Penn State that Franklin is having trouble developing his Players capable of beating more than Dregs and Mediocre Teams?

Even Recruits are having second thoughts as they see the poor coaching and lack of improvement after 21 games? Talk needs a Walk not just more Talk!

I am starting to wonder why the Narduzzi comments were so published last week when I was in the Hospital, and now it may have some legs....Franklin did not respond and actually ran away and how Meyer and his Players laughed at him and his Players was just a pure sign of disrespect as seen on TV!
I don't see Franklin as being "lazy". His fault is that he's all flash: style with no substance. His style gets him his recruits, but being a bad coach prevents him from being a good gameday coach.

Well, I am only passing on Insiders Knowledge Observations at PSU and that amounts to gossip, but gossip often has legs, especially to Bookies? The problem is they are still comparing Paterno that just out worked every coach he ever went up against. Franklin is not putting in the same hours and when he does he is like you say on phone and glad handing and not as focused as Joe or O'Brien is what i am told.

On Game Day, Franklin is wearing Head Phones and certainly not coaching up his players like Joe often did at Games as they come off the field. I used to watch Joe on the Sidelines to learn from him. He did not use Head Phones either, but grabbed Players as they came off the field and was teaching them to adjust to what he saw on the sidelines. One time I was on the field, and just watched him the entire time standing behind the bench following to try and hear him far behind him? He just went up and down watching his Players with his arms folded, especially in the First Quarter and early part of the games? He would also, look at his Staff that he counted upon to be prepared every game, and just say, "Time For a Long Pass," but let his Assistants call what they prepared for not actually call the specific play. O'Brien was in the NFL and QB Coach and knows Football and when you stay more than 1 year you learn more, versus moving every few years!

Now compare the Three Coaching Backgrounds and tell me the Coach that stayed no where and moved from team to team and then you are correct sir....a flashing dash to head coaching but may not be able to handle Head Coaching at a Top 15 Program that has to compete and beat 3 other Top Coaches & Programs?

Very Good to Great Coaches show they know how to coach right away. James Franklin is not exactly showing that the last 2 years or even the last game?

It wouldn't surprise me if Franklin were putting his name out there, and that he might even take another job if offered. It doesn't surprise me that he is unhappy in State College and knows the heat will be high with another mediocre year next year.

But I really don't see it happening because, one, his pay is at the top of the coaching food chain, and so a pay raise elsewhere is hard to imagine, and more importantly, who would be willing to pay him what he is already making now? I'm sure that the bloom has come off of his rose over the past two years among those hiring coaches. I mean, watching his games leaves anyone unimpressed, and comments by former players are very unsettling. The slick car salesman view of him is becoming common.

Plus, if he were to go elsewhere and actually be successful (which is unlikely), he'd jump at the first NFL offer that came his way. I only see him being attractive to a program that has been down for awhile and wants to get back to their winning ways and needs a good recruiter to get it started. None of the big jobs out there fit that description. Miami is, and always will have good recruits. They need someone who fits their culture and can develop a team. That ain't Franklin.
