He has better players around him, and Jamie is running a more open offense. I think James is the same as always, but the situation around him improved. He is shooting better and more this year, but that can also be because of having a more open offense, versus the pack it in style of the last few years. We will miss this years version
Totally different player
JR leads the nation in assist to turnover ratio.Overrated, don't know what you have been watching.
And as a team, we only had 4 turnovers.... which is incredible. And a lot of that is JRob.
I have stayed out of that discussion, but that really has been and continues to be a worthless statement. Levance stopped having D1 eligibility years ago. I am sure you would rather have Blair too and Sam Young. So what. James is good in his own right. He's tough and a great leader out there. He has earned the right by now to not be compared to anyone, he is his own man in his own right.Still would rather have Levance lol.
No worries, happy birthday.Oh c'mon Jeff, just having a little fun. That was such a heated topic on here for a while I thought I would make a little joke out of it. That's why I put "lol" by it.
Anyways, today January 7th is my birthday so be nice to me at least 1 day okay??
JR leads the nation in assist to turnover ratio.
Saturday will be the first real test of the teams"poise" in a hostile environment.Lots of synergies on this years team which helps everyone play better!!
Good teamwork and confidence! Noone seem to get rattled and off their game for an extended period of time. Jamie should get some credit for changing up some things and keeping the positive mo rolling.
JR leads the nation in assist to turnover ratio.
Biggwst improvement is shooting anf strength
I think the Panthers will just "growl" at the Irish and play on to a win!Saturday will be the first real test of the teams"poise" in a hostile environment.
Gregory on James Robinson: "I don't think anybody really appreciates him, other than other coaches."
He's improved AND his team is better. Having said that many of you refuse to admit that all too often in the past JR was much too passive playing a position where he was "expected" to both trigger the offense and represent an offensive threat in his own right. Prior to this year he didn't aggressively take advantage of open looks or aggressively penetrate to dish or score- that's what his critics have focused on and the criticism was valid. Yes, the team has improved but that doesn't account for the "different" JR we've seen this year. If James continues what he's doing and that doesn't mean he has to be perfect, I think you will see the criticism muted.Thank you, Coach Gregory and jimsavio.
Is Robinson greatly improved, or is his team better?
Was McConnell vastly improved, or was Arizona much better than Duquesne? (God forgive me for bringing his name up.)
Fields was one of my favorites, but if he was the PG last year would he have done more than Robinson?
Unless they are big scorers, good PGs are going to be underappreciated if they are not on good teams. Of course Robinson improved, he's older, more experienced, more confident, has worked on his shooting. Maybe he's even getting enough sleep. But he is still James Robinson. You don't become one of the best assist/turnover PGs in NCAA history without at least being good. This year he has improved, the team has improved, and he is playing great.
No matter how you view his first three years, watch and enjoy his final year and appreciate what you see now.

Two walk-ons were part of the rotation last year, and we had a SG that could barely shoot beyond 12 feet. Young and Artis were playing up a position. Durand Johnson was suspended. Cam Johnson got hurt. We had no centers. We had no depth. Our defense was abysmal. We could not afford to get into any horse races with teams, because we would have been blown out. James COULDN'T drive much last year because teams we packing it in and challenging us to shoot. He often had the ball in his hand last year, where this year other players are able to handle the ball. Our improved offense has opened up the court for EVERYONE to have better looks. The "criticism" is valid only if one doesn't understand basketball is a team sport. He's improved AND his team is better. So what- that's not the whole story and any BB expert would tell you exactly that.Highest assist to turnover ratio in the HISTORY of college basketball.
What would they say? They sure talked about it a lot on the broadcast last night. Mind you, they are announcers, not experts. I wonder what you think the experts would say, or if you have a link to an expert on his/her opinion. So what- that's not the whole story and any BB expert would tell you exactly that.
None of what you have stated above explains a near refusal to shoot or penetrate which are tendencies which he also showed in his freshman and soph. years but which could, to a degree , be overlooked more or minimized in the assessment of his play due to his experience level. There's no player on the team that isn't affected by the quality of the players around them. By definition the same personnel issues you identify also impacted Young and Artis yet they significantly improved last year. Look it just boils down to the fact that James played very passively last year and it did hurt the team. He's playing great ball now- had he played the same caliber of ball all 4 years he'd be an all American! Two walk-ons were part of the rotation last year, and we had a SG that could barely shoot beyond 12 feet. Pitt has almost always kept things slow, as we didn't always have the horses to compete. The fact that Dixon had us near the bubble last year was a minor miracle and possibly a better coaching year than ever all things considered, but we really stunk. Jamie knew we stunk. The only way we were in it often was to go slow and keep the score down. This dictated not starting the offense to soon, and even if we did, who did we have to shoot it or pass it to? Lecak? Cam Wright? Nwankwo? Uchebo? Randall? This season's team is day and night better than last year. How do you think Knight or Levance would have done with last year's team?
I've heard a large number of commentators also indicate in the past that he needed to be more aggressive offensively. The interesting thing though is that I doubt that they would have been inclined to sing James' praises last night but for the overall quality of his play which included a new founded penchant for his looking for his own shot- the point being that I think they were more enthralled with his total game than assist to turnover numbers alone. What would they say? They sure talked about it a lot on the broadcast last night. Mind you, they are announcers, not experts. OK, these are just opinions, so not gonna argue too hard.None of what you have stated above explains a near refusal to shoot or penetrate which are tendencies which he also showed in his freshman and soph. years but which could, to a degree , be overlooked more or minimized in the assessment of his play due to his experience level. If he plays like this then AA is icing on our tourney cake.I was being sarcastic. JRob should get serious consideration for All American.

Last years team needed a Carl Krauser type point guard
