Jamie with another early round exit...

Ahh... So the person charged with a crime has been booted off the team and the player with no charges is still playing? Weird.

I think Nate Oats should listen to talk show radio and read on the internet how fans of other schools feel about Brandon Miller. That way he can make an informed decision about how to handle this. Those people have more information than police and are probably better suited to judge Miller's character.
To be fair, you should take your same advice. You make comments as if you know with certainty how everything went down.

I think he's giving them exactly what they want, and what we (including me) underappreciated. A clean program that was competitive most years and routinely made the NCAA tournament. It can be frustrating not ever really going on a long run. But I think they expectation there is maybe they might do that once every 5-10 year...but most years will get upset by some hot shooting lower seed team alla Virginia seems to do every year now. The difference is Bennett actually made the final four and won it all in that rare year. Where Dixon got upset on an amazing last second play.
I'd take him over the we've been through since he left and I wanted him to.leave. I thought we could get better. Instead, we cratered.

It had to be some violation of team rules for your gun to kill someone while you are at the scene of the crime. If nothing else, he should have been suspended for a couple weeks for a violation of team rules. Ensuring your gun is not involved in murdering should be a basic requirement of all Alabama players.

I wish they would have had an over/under bet out here in Vegas on how many pages this thread was going to generate. Easy win on the over knowing it was going to degenerate into a battle between the pro and con Jamie fans.

What was that acronym often used herein back when, JIG?

Was it his gun?

FWIW, Nate Oats is head coach. He doesn't have to enforce team rules of doesn't want to.

I know he wasn't charged with a crime. Therefore, Nate Oats and his superiors at Alabama can handle this however they want.
To be clear, I don’t care whether or not Nate Oates and/or BAMA took any disciplinary actions against him. But I’m rational enough to know that, just because no charges were filed against him, that doesn’t mean it would have been unjustified to do so.

Or the pro Jamie people like me and the others here who aren’t afraid to speak objectively about their guy.

Reminds me of our political climate too. There aren’t enough people anymore (on both sides) who can’t bring themselves to speak critically about a guy they voted for.

Really, please stop with your nonsense.

No one knows the details for sure but should it have been the case that Brandon Miller knowingly transported the gun to that scene and knew that Darius Miles and/or Mike Davis were asking for it, I don’t care if it was legal or not, it was poor judgement.

At least if I was in his shoes, my first efforts would have been to try to talk them down/get both of them out of there rather than just freely saying ‘ok here’s your gun, just don’t do with it what one could reasonably think you just may do with it’.
And like you said, we don't know the details for sure. However, we do know that he wasn't charged with a crime.

I don't think this is something that you can casually toss around some stupid 2 week suspension, as SMF suggests. To do that, puts the appearance of some sort of guilt attached to the player. Due to the seriousness of someone losing their life, I don't think you don't handle this the same way you do a fight, weed, or public intoxication. I think you have get to the bottom of it as best you can, and either stand behind the kid 100% or send him on his way. (I originally typed send him packing. What a poor choice of words that would have been.)

I don’t care what side you or anyone is on w/r to Jamie. It’s so far in the past, it doesn’t matter to me. I just wish there was a bet and I had the over on number of pages generated. Would have been a more likely W than a lot of my bets this week.

And I replied to the OP very early in this thread last night. Too bad the ZAGS-TCU game was made all about ‘another early Jamie exit’ because it was a good game and that TCU offense doesn’t remotely resemble any ole Jamie Dixon Pitt offense.

I won’t respond to your addition of politics to this, that is a definite lose/lose proposition.

It feels like for the longest time it was a long wish for Wanny during the early Duzz years. It feels that has certainly stopped over the last two years and maybe even prior. I suppose we have to wait until Jeff wins the conference or takes us to 16 or beyond for people to just stop talking about Dixon.

How is that politcal? Lol. How about this then…a better example is mommy or daddy can’t admit that their kid has some challenges or misbehaved.

You mentioned political climate and speaking critically about ‘the guy you voted for’. Nothing wrong with that, I’m just envisioning the rabbit hole that could easily lead down on this board.

Now your parents and kids analogy, yeah, Jamie fans can’t admit that he was great but was trending downward for a while and maybe a change could be good for both sides. On the other side, success is measured by more than just tournament success and Jamie delivered big time in all those other areas.

If that sends people down a rabbit hole then they have serious issues. Lol. Honestly I didn’t expect you or anyone to respond to that. It’s just the first parallel that came to mind. As you kinda said, it wasnt the slightest bit polarizing. People in this thread can’t even acknowledge the post season facts. So that’s kinda the point. But you’re right about Jamie and it’s a struggle that I have. I always speak about using the word great to describe people and how it’s thrown around too easily. Part of me wants to use the word to describe Jamie. But with that post season, I can’t go there.

i agree but your post implied that he is not getting support NOW. Disingenuous at best. He has support. He has money for his assistants and has recruited well. I have always honestly thought his lack of success comes from his lack of cool under pressure. Or just his general manic sideline demeanor fails him at key times.
Good point about "his general maniac sideline demeanor" failing him at key times. I support Dixon, but I too wonder about that. On the same topic though what about Izzo? He's animated too but wins. More talent?

Animated but Jamie almost seems like he is in a manic trance. I always wondered if he was so tuned in on particulars that he sometimes missed bigger pictures. I don’t know. Liked him a lot but he had minor issues that caused problems i think.

It is 7 years to the day that Dixon left pitt. How much time are we going to invest in revisiting his performance in the NCAAT?

He inherited a lot of talent in his first year. TCU had major injuries the year before he arrived. Those guys got healthy and won the NIT his first year. There was no transfer portal. The landscape was drastically different than the one Capel inherited. Dixon at least had a house. Capel didn't even have a plot of land. He started from nothing.

trust me, I'm not arguing against what Capel inherited (or didn't inherit) ... I've been fighting that battle with a lot of people since he was hired lol.

They lost because they played an experienced, talented, higher seeded team with an elite coach and an elite big man that was better than them in pretty much every measurable way. TCU put up a good fight. No shame in that loss.
Yeah but if he had hugley he would have won. 😎

Until he retires. He’s a Pitt legend and the best we have had. I hope you’re not waiting for him to no longer be relevant to us. It’s just not going to happen.
Yeah but you think people would have gotten over being butt hurt by now that he left and didn’t win more

But I guess some topics never die like Pitt stadium, Smiley and now Hugley

If capel continues to win I’ll be over it. I see no need to drag him and root against him.

Seeing the same petty character attacks we saw 15 years ago is absurd

Jamie “ Mr. Mediocrity” Dixon is accurate from a post season performance perspective. His regular season performance is better. Other than the CBI trophy not much postseason hardware.

I am a realist when it comes to JD. Yes the tournament exits and general downward trend at the end weren’t great. But the BET tournament was huge (more impressive than football winning the ACC) as were the regular season championships.

It will take quite a bit to vault Capel anywhere close to JD territory. But he has done something JD never had to do and that is execute a rebuild. We shall see if he can sustain it.

I'll go even further. It was not a rebuild, it was a total build. There was nothing, not even a plot of land. We had Jared Wilson Frame, that's it.

Yeah, you are right, it was a build from nothing.

I always forget about JWF given the teams he played on. Perhaps one of the more under appreciated Panthers of all time.

2014 Pitt / Syracuse was just on espnu. They said Pitt won 9 straight games at home versus top 5 times since the Pete opened... ( this one was a loss on last second 3 by Ennis :( , cuse was 20 something and 0 and number 1...).

Strange post considering Gonzaga / TCU was such a good, fun to watch game.
