Joey. “ toast” Porter

Get used to this one ypu will hear it a lot “ holding no. 9 porter” . Killer
Here’s the deal with that…

He got called for a penalty in the first game of his last season and never got called again the rest of the year.

His Dad said it’s a reason why he went back for another year…Jr. wanted to work on it.

That said, he’s praised for QB’s not throwing in his direction all year and if that’s the case, then his penalties surely will be down.

So I’m leaning on the belief that he fixed it, but only time will tell.

Yeah I remember espn calling him “ Porter island “ . NOT. Toast porter bloes

Let’s be real here. Would you be saying the same thing if he didn’t go to Penn State? Because our cornerbacks are notorious for holding/PI penalties as well.
Of course not. If you want to hate him for going to Penn St fine. But that has nothing to do with how good of a CB he is.
I’m sure it’s the same thing on the Penn St boards (btw I was banned about 4 years ago for repeatedly using the term Ped St 😊😊) I guarantee they’re are a lot of people on the PSU board saying the Steelers will suck for years because they have the worst QB in the
NFL.

Porter was a steal at #32. It's just weird that some people are so consumed by PSU. It made sense in the 1970's and early 1980's but that ship has long sailed.
I mean I can’t stand them either. For many reasons. But the crying around this one is beyond.

SMF’s statement above is epic. Rooting against a team you supposedly like.

I'm disappointed when local players don't want to play for Pitt and go elsewhere.....
I hate everything that is Penn State.....
If he were drafted by any other team but the Steelers, I wouldn't care if he became a success or a failure....

But Porter IS a Steeler now and I'm rooting for him to be great....

Make no mistake about it, tomlin took him because of his name. Every highlight you see of him, he is holding. Every psu game that I watched (with the hope that they would lose) he was holding on every pass thrown his direction. I understand that just about every NFL CB holds on every play, but his is rather obvious. I can't see him changing his style and we all will see just how much of it the NFL refs will allow him to do.

Lol ridiculous.

Well on top of one career pick ( 35) games. He had 11 pass break ups last yearbut 6 against purdue. So for the 12 other games he had 5 break ups. But hey hes pezzys kid what could go wrong

Exactly. I would never root against a Steeler because they went to Penn State, or WVU, or Notre Dame. Once you are on the black and gold, you are Steeler first and foremost.

This is the proper take. I’ve avoided the Pgh media orgy going on right now about him since last night…likely one of the greatest nights in Ron Cook’s drunken raping life… this is the most disgusting aspect of this (but not even the kids fault). Their supporters (and coaches) have always been the issue; the players themselves only are making smart business moves to go there. The Cult aspect grows with their alumni players over the years but while they’re playing, they are just players (ok, a few of them still are known to rape coeds, but that’s just a rounding error, I suppose).

It’s distasteful. But once the games start I’ll have to root for him to produce, because otherwise the Steelers will stink. So it’s a deal with the devil for sure, but all sports is pretty much devilish.

You’re exactly right about him. The only people who thought he was any good was Tomlin and Penn St fans. No one thought he was good enough to be picked that high.
Ohhhhh wait a minute. Almost EVERYONE had him going in the 1st round.
They’re probably all part of the vast PSU - Tomlin conspiracy 🤣🤣🤣🤣

You do realize he only played in i believe 9 games due to late season injury and skipping the bowl game. Plus nobody relly threw at him after the Purdue game

Looks pretty good playing 12 yards off vs the #1 receiver in CFB. 🤔
He's pressed up in that video too..

But, if we're talking about playing off coverage, I watched the legion of boom do it and dominate to create one of the best defenses in NFL history.

PSU wasn't good enough to matchup vs in press all game long vs OSU's receivers. They aren't leaving Jaxson Smith-Njigba one on one every single snap vs one their safeties.

Well he's the guy who claims to be a big fan of several Pitt Olympic sports while simultaneously arguing that their funding should be cut to the bone because having a good soccer team and volleyball team is what is keeping Pitt football and men's basketball from becoming national powers, so it's pretty much par for the course.

My dislike for PSU is stronger than my like of the Steelers. I hope he is terrible.
im usually like this but im coming around. I actually like MUth. i hated jesse james more than life itself, when he was a steeler, i actually wanted a bad knee injury every time he caught the ball.

with that said, i dont love the J Peezy Jr pick but im rooting for him, mainly because he will be starter from day one and if he sucks, we are in big trouble.

Plus, i saw how psu and wvu (steeler fans) rooted against Pickett and it annoyed the hell out of me and i dont want to be that guy..

I just don’t think this is fair. As much as I’d like to blame this pick on Tomlin’s fascination with nepotism, I have no problems at all.

For 2 months all we heard was that Peezy Jr won’t be around at 17. So what did the Steelers do? They traded up, only to not draft him.

Then they took him at 32 which makes sense. Personally I wanted the Steelers to slide down from 32 and add a pick or two, but they got that back later anyways by sliding down in round 3 and getting the coveted stud TE.

And why do you think he wasn’t targeted the rest of the season after the Purdue game? Other teams do want to win afterall.

I’m not going to go out on a limb and say he’s going to be a slam dunk plus player for the next 10 years. We just don’t know. But getting him at 32 was a good pick, especially since Dino’s buddy from Maryland was already taken.

That's not really answering the question. Did he even redirect once in press?

The bigger concern is pedst (porter) played against only 2 above average passing offenses so we have no clue how he will perform against good passing offenses.

conner heyward "not pleased." Derrick Watt "Gathering facts."

Well the Stillers are pretty happy with what they got out of Watt in his time here, and Heyward looks like he's going to justify his selection, so if that's your point maybe the Stillers should draft (although they didn't draft Watt) all nepotism players?

In reality, aren't Heyward and Watt examples of guys who had a name but were productive in any event?

I was intrigued at seasons end with clever plays involving Heyward. He is undersized and not particularly fast but shows good hands and a knack to make plays. The taking of Washington last night might impair his potential going forward though. And Washington looks like a bonafide maniac so I don’t want anything keeping him off the field, sorry Cam.

The other Watt is utterly worthless and it is painfully obvious it’s totally nepotism, but… that’s the way of the world
