Junker’s replacement

On a side note, why does Pitt not have a (broadcast) journalism degree? Genuinely curious.

When she started in Austin she was on TV a lot then started getting less face time. I had forgotten about her then she reappeared not long ago.

Sort of surprised it’s not a PSU person, I feel like a lot of fringe media types I see on Twitter throw that in their bio.

Wearing a Steelers shirt won't go over well amount the local Pittsburgh "journalists".

I hope 1 of her first assignments is to cover some local high school sports team at Sandcastle in the pool.

This is still the best ever…

he’s “used to ummm being from the east coast “

not enough attention on “fun times for the disabled “ either….

what a disaster all around.

Probably got his pink slip later that day…
Hoopie U. class valedictorian.

Unless she’s not good at her job/a WVU fan girl, you’re all being a bit harsh. I skimmed her Twitter and didn’t notice anything WVU related, not even mentioned in her bio. WPXI went the attractive young female route too hiring Jenna Harner but she seems to be pretty serious about/good at her job (granted I don’t live in Pittsburgh anymore, mostly going off Twitter).

But I don’t think she’s a WVU/PSU grad so inclined to not hold that against her. I just remembered too WTAE hired some PSU girl, found her Twitter and this is the BS I was referring to, in her bio: “Reporter @wtae. Born and raised outside of Philly #GOBIRDS. Penn Stater #WEARE.” Though I guess to be fair it’s a bit different when you’re not reporting on sports.

Having grumbled about the likely WVU bias, I was remiss not to have added that anything is better than the boozehound, stripper-craving, hair-coloring Nit fanatic that she’s replacing.

Why does it seem like media is simply looking to check boxes these days with their hires?

no reason why hoopies should be a protected class and that we have another in our local media.

The first time my wife and I saw a sports cast from Jenna Harner my wife made me change the channel. She couldn’t take the way this lady moved her hands. It was annoying as hell.

Oh they definitely are. Wow.....talk about an obvious and overt attempt and destroying the old boys networks.

That’s funny. I used to notice it with all the ESPN guys. It was so bad and profoundly executed that it seemed to me that it was how they were taught in journalism/sports broadcasting school. And then with the former athletes, it looked forced and like that’s how they were being coached by ESPN producers. I don’t know if it’s still as bad because I don’t really watch ESPN content anymore and haven’t for a long time

Ron burgundy not pleased. Lol

But actually I wasn’t speaking to gender or race, I just expect the most talented folks to get hired. But don’t tell me some DC hoopie convert is the best they could get!!

Here’s a good one from Jenna (she’s not shown in the clip).

More likely the middle sized media market that is pittsburgh just isn’t that attractive -
I mean look how terrible the newspaper sports writing is?
The sports talk radio is unlistenable

i dont for the life of me understand why sports talk and sports media in this city are as poor as it is. It's a decent sized market. We just recycle the same garbage over and over and have been for the last 30 years.. I just dont understand it..

The last good person i recall coming into this market was that Giannotti dude and he left after like a year to NYC i think.

I always thought Joe Bendel was good. Low-key, knew what he was talking about.

Sports talk in this market seems to ruin otherwise decent broadcasters. Joe Starkey used to be decent but is now unlistenable. Paul Zeise used to be ok but the last time I tuned in he was yelling and ranting about political stuff and seems to be going off the deep end. Filliponi is the only broadcaster I can recall improving here to the point where I actually like him now. Too bad he is paired with Mueller.

always liked him a lot. had the pleasure of talking to him at some south side watering holes and he was a very friendly, engaging guy.

His radio show back in the day on epsn 1250 was good. he had an afternoon show for awhile. maybe it was 970. could be wrong.

When there is too much of anything it becomes boring, repetitive. And there is too much, especially in a market like Pittsburgh. Rarely are there national stories discussed. Many of these guys outright despise certain sports and even local teams. I understand some guys liking a sport and being more knowledgeable about it than others but here, it is really bad.

And Stillers. Stillers. Stillers. Stillers. Stillers. NFL. Stillers. But I can't blame them, they only do this for ratings. I am sure many of these guys when they stray too much from the Steelers, they get told about it, and likely backed up with ratings to support.

some of these shows locally will talk nba or national sports for a segment and it goes nowhere, zero calls. same with pitt really. Dunlap will bring up pitt and ask for callers and no one calls so back to stiller talk.

Really, my complaint is the old outdated format of doing a call in show. i've lived outside of pittsburgh and the successful radio talk shows have stronger guests, better hosts and take very few calls. When your format is an opening monologue then just taking calls and giving replies, it's weak and you get nothing but stiller talk with penguin talk scattered in..

Stan and guy did this same format on tv back in 1990, basically did nothign but field calls and even then it was boring.. The "ill hang up and listen" callers shouldnt dictate the content of your show.

look back at all the successful radio shows, sports or not. stern, rush, mike and mike, jim rome, ferrell, dan patrick, kornheiser, my man Michael savage.. they didnt rely on callers, they took them occasionally but they carried the show by talking, having good guests, doing skits or whatever you call it but dont rely on john from aspinwall to provide your content..
