Jurkovec to ND

He is a talent for sure. But Ron Powles was a sure fire Heisman winner and he bombed. You simply don't know what the future holds. He loves ND. It is that simple. Think Urban Meyer didn't want him? He is a stud recruit who was honest enough to decide and move on. But he has two years of football in high school left and that is a long time before the he is on campus. As to ND QB's, most have been a product of hype more than talent. Huarte, Hanratty, Jimmy Clawsen, Rick Meier, Ron Powles, were all second comings.

I did. You tried to make the point (in the post I quoted) that ND hasn't done anything with QBs in 20 years and that is a reason the kid made a mistake by picking ND and not Pitt. That was a very bad attempt. You seem to be drinking mustard and royal blue kool aid.
You have reading comprehension issues. I mentioned other schools in more than 1 thread that did not include Pitt.

Best of luck to the kid. I have numerous friends that went to Notre Dame and all are very good, very successful people (I won't talk about ND fans that didn't go there). Notre Dame has a lot of football history and Brian Kelly is a jerk but he is a good coach who has put a lot of talent into the NFL in recent years. On top of that, the kid is both Catholic and religious. That combination would have been tough for anyone to beat.

Perhaps the kid is hoping that Kelly will be gone by the time he gets there :)...

Best wishes to the kid. ND is a pretty cool place - and a special atmosphere for football games where the focus is entirely on the game on the field versus the blaring music, giant scoreboard, etc.

Mr. MacVittie could make this kid's decision a moot point...

Go Pitt.

Well at least Jerkabit didn't pick Ped State - smart enough to stay out of that cult ring.
Either way, if he plays Ohio State he will lose.
OSU has won the last 4 over ND and won 11 of the last 14 against PSU.
ND is a great school, it's football team has a great tradition. But the reality is that ND is not among the Elite in CFB. Branding? Yes. Performance? Nope.
ND has a long way to go to get to Elite status and that doesn't come under center.
I wish the young man well insofar as it does not conflict with Pitt.

You realize I quoted your post, right? There is no interpretation or comprehension issue. I quoted exactly what you said where you quoted exactly what you responded to. Talk about dense.

It is hard to beat ND in a recruiting battle! They get whoever they want....kinda like the GM for the Yankees. You would think both teams would be on top every year or so! I am looking forward to seeing MacVittie playing QB for us!

Jurkovec has liked ND for a long time from what I understand. I mentioned this before that I also heard he may have a shot to play basketball there as well, which is something that appealed to him.

Is a very highly regarded recruit and committed without a TV announcement or any large fanfare.

Can we not just wish him well. I personally hate ND, but that is me. He likes it and decided to go there. There is no point in comparing who was the last great QB to come out of either school. Coaching staffs have changed numerous times for both schools over the last 30, 20, 10 years.

Also, just remember he is in the class of 2018. A lot can change between now and then.

^^^Gets it.

There's a lot of "whistling past the graveyard" going on regarding Jurkovec. This kid is the biggest QB recruit in Western PA since Pryor. Losing him to ANY school hurts big time. No one knows if this kid will become a first round draft pick or a ND benchwarmer. That said, if we're ever going to get back to national prominence we simply can't lose guys like this in our own backyard.

Kelly said recently that ND had an embarrassment of riches at QB, so I guess we should give the kid credit for not being deterred by the competition. That said, he could well have a Robert Foster type career: talented, but always buried on the depth chart.

Signing day is still more than a year and a half away. As he gets closer to that date, he may reassess his choice. If he had committed to Pitt, half of the people on this board would be saying that for a sophomore, his verbal is meaningless until signing day.

So, while he may be the type of kid that thinks ND is special and will likely keep his commitment, a number of things could make him reassess. If he does, Pitt should have an excellent shot.

A girlfriend going to Pitt should change things...

Wake me up in 2018 my concentration is on the 2017 class......

Kelly could finally decide to try the NFL, their OC Sanford, who was lead recruiter, is a young coach on the rise and might not even be there.....who knows.......

If a player really wants to go somewhere like nd or bama, Pitt will never beat those schools out. Pitt can do nothing about it.

Better South Bend than Giddy Gulch. Good luck to the young man. If he earns the starting role given the level of competition he'll be up against, he'll have achieved something special.

The lure of Notre Dame remains real and powerful even if the objective metrics indicate otherwise. Their NBC-televised games are a far more compelling recruiting tool than any roadie camp conceived by King Khaki up in Ann Arbor. Very slickly packaged and dazzling to a high school football player and his family. Watch one of their broadcasts from end to end and see how many emotional buttons they can push successfully. A full stadium doesn't hurt, either. If you're of Irish descent, it's all over.

Notre Dame built up a century of pixie dust to bedazzle recruits. And the pile is higher than the Cathedral of Learning..

Tell that to Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino, or Damar Hamlin. It's never easy to beat the big boys for highly recruited kids, but it IS possible. We just need to win more of these critical battles if we're going to compete.

I wanted to see him go to Pitt, but come on, getting to play quarterback at Notre Dame is pretty amazing. That place is college football and I wish him the best and look forward to watching him against everyone except Pitt.

This isnt 1960 anymore and we arent Rudy... not many would still agree that being at ND is "Pretty amazing" or "is college football"
Unless you are a Notre Dame fan....which this kid and his family were.

Wasn't a matter of beating out ND. The kid said it himself, "I always wanted to go there since I was a little kid". How do you beat that out? He probably had a dad who was gaga over ND like many other turds are all over this nation, and they sat and watched ND games on Saturdays. Good for him and daddy!

ND may be a great place to go to get your education, but for football right now there are many better schools to choose from. What really chaps my ass is that they can have their own NBC contract for football and nobody will make them join a conference. The ACC and the big east both let these turds dictate to them, allowing them to participate in all other sports but football. There brand is wearing thin and if they continue to be avg. to slightly above under that bum Kelly maybe they just might have to join a conference even for football. The ACC does not need them, I would much rather have Texas or Oklahoma.

All you people who get caught up in their holier than thou BS need your heads examined. If you went to ND you should be proud of it and the team but if you didn't I just don't understand how anyone could like them. So greedy, they need their own TV contract. Not to mention, I am sure they preach all the catholic values and talk about TD Jesus and yet i would bet that all those black players are not catholics. Regardless, they are a smug bunch that I will detest forever. I went to Pitt , Love Pitt, and ND can Kiss it!

I wonder how many on the team are Catholic and religious ? Not knocking the kid for his choice just sayin...

Very good Trump imitation...

Go Pitt.
