I'm not an Edsall fan by any means but how bad is Maryland football if a coach can make UConn football a respectable program but can't elevate Maryland to even below average. I think he was overhyped as a hire, but Maryland is the worst program in the country right now.

The way to get back is to grab some of current Verbals and that includes Pitt, Uva, Vt, Psu, Wvu etc. Edsall built his reputation and won at UConn from 1999-2010 where he beat Pitt a few times and ND in 2009 by 33-30 and went to a major BCS Bowl.

At UConn, Edsall was just a tad over .513% and is below .400% at UMD since 2011. He will become a Coaching Retread like Solich going from NU to Ohio & Pelini from NU to YSU or an Assistant like UVA Groh to GT, or Kiffen to Bama. Edsall is a Cuse QB that spent his early days at coaching from 1980 to 1990 almost coaching every position, then to BC, then to NFL Jaguar, then GT.

Edsall teaches sound and discipline fundamentals but sometimes you just grow to far and Murphy's Law sets in, and UMD going to the Big Ten is quite a challenge. He could have stay at UConn and did well!

Maryland did well under Ralph Friedgen winning 10 games seasons for awhile and promised James Franklin his opportunity to become Head Coach if he would wait 3 Years, but chose not to wait and moved on to Vandy and then Penn State.

Edsall recruiting right now is 36th, 2015-54th, 2014-53rd, 2013-33rd, 2012-35th & 2011-43rd. UMD currently has Four 4 Star Recruits at QB, WR, RB, & LB, but only one had Pitt on his list. I suspect Fast Franky will be going after them but if Franky has a losing or 6-6 Season, he may not have the talk that walks anymore on recruiting and could possibly be doing the Walking The Plank like Edsall, Strong, Holgrosen, Bielema, & Sarkansian if they don't improve and win 10 Games soon too?

One big factor is the quality of BE football versus that of the ACC/B10. After the attrition of Miami, VT, etc., the conference was pathetic, and it was a real indictment of Pitt football that we were;t at or near the top of it every year. Inexcusable to routinely finish below the Cincis, UCONNs, etc.
