Keys to BC game

Many bizarre posts in the wee hours of the morning. Anyways, just some thoughts on keys to winning BC game:

1.Rediscover the pass rush. Make Jurkovic get rid of the ball quickly to prevent the long ball.
2. Cover the middle of the field. It’s seems TEs have a lot of room over the middle.
3. Kenny be Kenny. He’s playing well enough to win every week.
4.Abandon screen passes to RBs and run game altogether. It’s like pounding a square peg in a round hole; just not going to happen.
5. Improve fundamentals and discipline. No dumb illegal formation and offsides penalties.

NC St was a kick to the groin, but it’s a new week! H2P

You make some good points but here is what I noticed after watching the film. The corners have to jam the outside receivers to throw off the timing of those back shoulder fades and we have to mix up coverages more often.

I know that’s the protocol. I was watching the game in a bar last week so I didn’t even get to hear why he was out. Did they say? Lower body?

Agreed but with this OL we will need to establish the pass to allow our running game to be effective. Crazy turn from a few years ago. The OL is the key to the game!

I agree. You have to establish the pass first, but abandon the run is a terrible idea. Even if the running game sucks, you have to keep the defense honest.

I think you have to plan to pass 40+ times a game with this roster; the run game should be draws basically as a constraint play against a defense that over-plays it's hand. It's not what Narduzzi would prefer but you have to ride the horses you have.

Yep, many say it is easier for an OL to pass block than run block and we are testament to this theory.

Agree with most of this.

1. pass rush needs to get back to something similar to the first 3 games. Maybe give some more PT to the backup DE’s as the starters seemed to have nothing left at the end of the game. I hope Haba is back as he can be a factor. And I wouldn’t mind seeing Hayes get in for a series or 2.

2. yes as the TE is their go to guy.

3/4. Kenny was by far our best player last week. We need him to continue this week. Hopefully we abandon the screen game and let KP go down field often.

5. must eliminate pre snap penalties.

I think you have to plan to pass 40+ times a game with this roster; the run game should be draws basically as a constraint play against a defense that over-plays it's hand. It's not what Narduzzi would prefer but you have to ride the horses you have.

That would make Pitt extremely easy to defend. I still think Pickett is a very average QB, and putting every game in his hands seems dumb. But, I see your point too.

Pitt needs to at least equal the BC physicality and use their own speed advantage on both sides of the ball.

Get a lead and go for splash plays to add to it.

#4 needs tweaked a little. The pounding of the square peg into a round hole is all personnel related. Use the correct back for the situation. Quit putting a scatback into power runs. Our running game will not be 2018 by doing that, but it does make a noticeable improvement.
